Final The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Trailer Arrives – Katniss wants to end President Snow’s reign of terror

On November 19th we’ll get to see how The Hunger Games series comes to an end with Mockingjay – Part 2. It’s certainly been quite a ride to get here, with some really good movies which have become box office titans.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow [Donald Sutherland] in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale [Liam Hemsworth], Finnick [Sam Claflin], and Peeta [Josh Hutcherson] – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to liberate the citizens of Panem, and stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.

‘The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.’

Freeheld Clip – Ellen Page wants Julianne Moore’s number in the lesbian themed film

It’s time for a meet-cute, this time between Ellen Page and Julianne Moore in the upcoming Freeheld, which is one of the gay-themed films coming out over the next few month which is hoping to be in contention when awards season arrives.

The first meeting between the two is the subject of the new clip, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘

Inspired by actual events, Julianne Moore and Ellen Page portray the beautiful love story in FREEHELD. After being diagnosed with cancer, Laurel wishes to leave her pension to her domestic partner Stacie, until she is denied by the local county officials. With the help of her allies, including Laurel’s longtime colleague detective Dane Wells [Michael Shannon] and activist Steven Goldstein [Steve Carell], Laurel will do anything she can to support her partner and fight for equality.’

Ellen Page & Julianne Moore Get Freeheld Posters

There’s going to be a bit of a battle of high profile gay-themed films in the next few months, and one of the most interesing-looking of those is Freeheld. We got a trailer for the movie a couple of weeks ago and now that’s been followed by a couple of posters, which you can see above and below.

In the true life tale, Page plays mechanic Stacie Andree, who was denied the pension benefits of her longtime partner and New Jersey police detective Laurel Hester (Julianne Moore), when the latter became terminally ill. While Hester’s detective partner, Dane Wells (Michael Shannon), was conservative and initially surprised to learn of Hester’s sexual orientation, he stepped up to become the leader in the fight for Laurel’s rights to assign her benefits to Stacie. Steve Carell meanwhile plays the lawyer who helped take the case to court.

The movie arrives in US cinemas in October, and it looks like it may also be trying an awards run.

Full The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Trailer – Katniss prepares to take down the Capitol

Youtube has revamped the look of their videos, although we’re presuming that wasn’t done in preparation for the release of the first full The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Trailer. However the two have coincided, and you can take a look below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Freeheld Trailer – Julianne Moore & Ellen Page fight for gay rights

There are going to be a few gay-themed movies lining up in the hoping of scoring award nominations (and perhaps wins), including Roland Emmeric’s Stonewall, as well as Freeheld. The trailer for the latter has now arrived, and you can watch it below.

Director Pete Sollett told Buzzfeed, “The political story and the personal story are one for me. It’s always our own sort of issues that pop up when we’re falling in love. But unfortunately on top of those, these women had to deal with the prejudice and the obstacles set up for them by their local government. But for me, they’re one in the same: The personal is the political.”

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Trailer – Katniss is going to war

For the first bit of this Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 trailer it seems things are going surprisingly well for Katniss and her allies. However it should come as no surprise to discover that doesn’t last long and soon the war that Part 1 promised is in full swing.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (Blu-ray Review)

Mockingjay was always going to have a struggle, despite the success of the previous movies. Anyone who’s read the books will know that the third instalment is rather different from the earlier two, not least because there’s no Hunger Games arena and things get pretty dark and glum. Many also wondered whether there was enough material to make two films out of it, or if this gambit to get more cash from the Panem cow was a stretch too far.

It’s pleasing to see then that Mockingjay Part 1 is pretty good. Quite how good it is is difficult to say at the moment, as it’s tough to escape the feeling that this is a long build-up to Part 2, and it’s only going to be with the hindsight of the final instalment that we’ll really be able to properly judge. Birdman Takes Best Picture At The Oscars, With Only One Win For Imitation Game

In the last few weeks many thought Boyhood had overtaken Birdman as this year’s Best Picture Oscar frontrunner, but in the end it was the latter that took to the podium at the end of ceremony, with Alejandro González Iñárritu also winning Best Director.

However everything didn’t go to Birdman, as while it took two other prizes, it actually tied for most wins with The Grand Budapest Hotel, which took Best Makeup, Best Production Design, Best Costume and Best Original Score.

On the acting front, while a few months ago many critics had already pretty much given the award to Michael Keaton for Best Actor, it was actually Eddie Redmayne who won for The Theory Of Everything. Julianne Moore won Best Actress for Still Alice, while both supporting acting awards went to the frontrunners, Patricia Arquette for Boyhood and J.K. Simmons for Whiplash.

The ceremony itself was ok, although Neil Patrick Harris struggled after a rousing opening, largely due to weak writing. It’s a shame as NPH himself was good, but he had little to work with in a job that’s thankless at the best of times.

It was also up to NPH to largely hold the fort for the gays, as while we normally make a strong showing, amongst the nominees it was only The Imitation Game that had any chance of winning. Many had thought that despite eight noms it wouldn’t win anything, but it did manage to pick up Best Adapted Screenplay for Graham Moore. The writer gave what was probably the most moving speech of the evening, saying “I tried to commit suicide at 16 and now I’m standing here. I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she doesn’t fit in anywhere. You do. Stay weird. Stay different, and then when it’s your turn and you are standing on this stage please pass the same message along.”

Oh and if you’re wondering why NPH is in his undies in the pic above, it’s not because the show was going so badly he decided to try stripping, he was re-enacting a scene from Birdman – and looking fine while doing it.

Pride Picks Up A BAFTA, But Imitation Game Loses Out

It was a big night at the EE British Academy Film Awards, where Boyhood was named Best Film with Richard Linklater winning Director and Patricia Arquette receiving the award for Supporting Actress. The Awards were hosted for a tenth year by Stephen Fry and held at London’s Royal Opera House.

While Pride lost out on Best Supporting Actress for Imelda Staunton and Best British Film, Writer Stephen Beresford and Producer David Livingstone received the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for the movie.

However the big loser on the gay-themed front was The Imitation Game, which had high hopes due to its 10 nominations, but walked away with absolutely nothing. To be honest that won’t be surprising to many, as few thought it was likely to do particularly well, but there was hope it would pick up a couple.

The Grand Budapest Hotel won five awards: Costume Design, Production Design, Make Up & Hair and Original Music, with Wes Anderson winning his first BAFTA for Original Screenplay.

Leading Actor was presented to Eddie Redmayne for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, which also received the awards for Outstanding British Film and Adapted Screenplay.

Whiplash received three BAFTAs: Supporting Actor for J. K. Simmons, Editing and Sound. Leading Actress was presented to Julianne Moore for her role in Still Alice, meaning all four of this year’s performance awards went to first-time BAFTA winners.

Writer Stephen Beresford and Producer David Livingstone received the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for their first feature film Pride. Previous Outstanding Debut winner Pawel Pawlikowski picked up the award for Film Not in the English Language for Ida.

Emmanuel Lubezki received the BAFTA for Cinematography for Birdman, having won this category twice previously, most recently in 2014.

The Lego Movie received the BAFTA for Animated Film, and Special Visual Effects was presented to Interstellar. The award for Documentary was won by Citizenfour.

Boogaloo and Graham won the British Short Film award and the British Short Animation award was presented to The Bigger Picture; both shorts are nominated for this year’s international short film and animation categories at the Oscars later this month.

The EE Rising Star Award, voted for by the public, was presented to Jack O’Connell.

The special award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema was presented to BBC Films in their 25th year. Mike Leigh, whose films include Naked, Secrets & Lies, Vera Drake and Mr. Turner, received the Fellowship, the highest honour the Academy can bestow.

Gay & Lesbian Entertainment Critics’ Dorian Awards Go To Transparent, Pride & More

If most awards are a bit too straight for you, then GALECA – the Gay & Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association – and their Dorian Awards are for you. They had out gongs for both mainstream and gay-themed films, as well as in more unusual categories such as Campy Film Of The Year, and Wilde Wit Of The Year.

Now this year’s winner’s have been announced, with Boyhood getting Best Film Of The Year. It’s a good omen as for the past two years GALECA has chosen the movie in that category that went on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Eddie Redmayne and Julianne Moore took the film Film Performance gongs, while Ava DuVernay got Best Director Selma.

On the gay front, there was an extremely strong field of contenders for LGBTQ Film Of The Year, including Stranger By The Lake, Love Is Strange and the multi-Oscar nominated The Imitation Game, but in the end it went to the excellent Pride, which also picked up Unsung Film Of The Year.

In the TV categories, Transparent was by far the biggest winner, scoring TV Comedy of the Year, TV Director of the Year for Jill Soloway, TV Performance of the Year – Actor for Jeffrey Tambor and LGBTQ TV Show of the Year. The Normal Heart also stood out, taking TV Drama Of The Year.
