Billy Magnussen Joins Disney’s Live-Action Aladdin As Will Smith Posts The First Photo From The Set

September 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney’s live-action take on Aladdin is kicking off with Will Smith posting the first picture from the set of the movie, alongside Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Jasmine) and Marwan Kenzari (Jafar). Filminh has begun at Longcross Studios outside London, with Guy Ritchie directing.

We also know the movie is going to have a few differences from the animated classic, not least that Bridge Of Spies and Broadway star Billy Magnussen has signed up for the movie. He’ll be playing a brand new character called Prince Anders, who’s described as ‘a suitor from Skanland and potential husband for Princess Jasmine’. Also in the movie are Navid Negahban (Homeland) as the Sultan, the ruler of Agrabah who is eager to find a proper husband for his daughter, Jasmine; Nasim Pedrad (Saturday Night Live) as Dalia, Princess Jasmine’s hand maiden and confidante; and Numan Acar (Homeland) as Hakim, Jafar’s right-hand man and head of the palace guards.

No release date has been officially set, although many expect it to arrive in early 2019.

Power Rangers (Blu-ray Review) – The teen superheroes go big budget & one (almost) comes out

July 31, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, Becky G
Director: Dean Israelite
Running Time: 124 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: July 31st 2017

I’m a bit confused. It’s called Power Rangers, but no one is wearing spandex, there are no men in slightly cardboard looking suits, and no CGI that looks like it was made in 10 minutes on a ZX Spectrum. Perhaps most confusing is that Rita Repulsa’s mouth now moves in time with what she’s saying. It’s all very strange.

It’s time for an origin story though. The film opens with Bryan Cranston causing the end of the dinosaurs. Well, Cranston’s alien Power Ranger, Zordon, does anyway, dying himself in the process of stopping evil former ranger, Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks). [Read more…]

Disney Announces The Lead Actors For Guy Ritchie’s Live-Action Aladdin

July 15, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Disney and director Guy Ritchie have apparently had a few issues finding the right actor for the lead role in their planned live-action take on Aladdin. It’s taken them months, but they’ve now reached a decision.

At the House Of Mouse’s D23 expo, they’ve revealed that relative newcomer Mena Massoud will take the title role, with Power Rangers’ Naomi Scott as Jasmine. They join the now confirmed Will Smith as the genie.

Apparently over 2,000 actors auditioned for the role of Aladdin, with Disney looking at the likes of Dev Patel and Riz Ahmed, before deciding that Massoud was their man. The young star has previously been seen in the likes of TV’s Saving Hope, and he’s also got a role in the upcoming Jack Ryan television series.

Disney is hoping to start shooting Aladdin next month in the UK, but there’s still got plenty of work to do before then. That’s not least that they need to find someone to play the villain, Jafar, as well as various other roles. (H/T THR)

New Power Rangers Trailer – The Mighty Morphers return to fight Elizabeth Banks

February 18, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shiny lycra, men in monster suits, stunningly cheap looking special effects – that’s what Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is all about, right? Well, not any more, as for its movie reboot it’s been given a bigger budget and some far better production values.

Now the new trailer has arrived to give us a fresh look at the new Rangers, as well as Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. You can take a look below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.’

Britt Robertson & Naomi Scott Testing For Tomorrowland Female Lead

June 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

britt-robertsonGeorge Clooney is already set for Tomorrowland and now director Brad Bird is looking for a female lead to star opposite him. He’s narrowing things down, with THR reporting that Britt Robertson (The Secret Circle, Under the Dome) and Naomi Scott (Terra Nova) are testing for role.

The studio has reportedly spent months searching for the right actress, with Shailene Woodley considered as an early candidate.

Both actresses will undergo a full hair and makeup test in Vancouver next month for the role of Casey Newton, who’s described as a rebellious teenage girl who approaches a cranky inventor named Frank (Clooney) to unravel the mystery behind Tomorrowland, a world that exists in a parallel dimension to ours. The Casey Newton part has been described as a “star-making” opportunity for whoever is chosen.

Hugh Laurie has been cast as the villain, with Raffey Cassidy playing a child robot who joins Casey and Frank on their journey. Brad Bird is directing Tomorrowland from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. A December 12, 2014 release date has already been set.
