Billy Bob Thornton Joins Downey Jr & Duvall In The Judge

March 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

billy-bob-thorntonThe cast of The Judge is fast coming together. For a long time it was just Robert Downey Jr. attached, while they tried to get Jack Nicholson to star alongside him. However with Jack passing on the film, in the last few days they’ve added Robert Duvall, Vincent D’Onofrio and now Variety reports that Billy Bob Thornton is in talks to sign on for the film.

The Judge is about a lawyer (Downey Jr.) who reluctantly returns to his hometown after being away for decades, in order to attend his mother’s funeral. When he arrives, he discovers that his estranged and elderly judge father (Duvall) is suspected of killing her. He has to work to prove his dad’s innocence, which allows the two of them to bond in a way they never have before.

If he does sign on, Thornton will play the prosecutor brought in to try Duvall’s character. D’Onofrio is set for the role of Downey Jr’s older brother, who like his father has also been estranged from his sibling.

robert-duvallLast November is was reported that Robert Downey Jr. was trying to convince Jack Nicholson to play his father in The Judge. However with Nicholson making very few films these days, he decided to pass, and so now THR reports that Robert Duvall is in final talks to join the drama The Judge.

The movie is about a successful lawyer (Downey Jr.) who returns to his hometown after he learns that his father (Duvall), the town’s judge, has been accused of murdering his mother. The attorney sets out to discover the truth whilst also reconnecting with his estranged dad, who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease.

Tommy Lee Jones was also in consideration for the title role, before the studio decided on Robert Duvall.

The studio is also said to close casting the lawyer’s ex-girlfriend, with Vera Farmiga and Elizabeth Banks considered the top choices for the part. David Dobkin is directing from a screenplay by Bill Dubuque, who rewrote the original draft by Nick Schenk (Gran Torino).

Robert Duvall & Jeremy Irvine Spending A Night In Old Mexico

July 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Old and young are set to team up for A Night In Old Mexico, with 81-year-old Robert Duvall and 21-year-old War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine signing up to star in Emilio Aragon’s road movie, according to Variety.

There’s not too much info about Bill Witliff’s (The Perfect Storm) script, other than that it follows the growing relationship between an old man and his grandson (presumably Duvall and Irvine), combining action, tragedy and romance. Angie Cepeda, Luis Tosar and Javier Guttierez will also star.

Filming starts tomorrow in Texas, running through to August.

Jayne Mansfield’s Car International Trailer

July 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first trailer for Billy Bob Thornton’s directorial venture, Jayne Mansfield’s Car, has debuted. Thornton also co-wrote the screenplay with Jane Espenson, which is about the culture clash of two families from different continents in 1969. Robert Duvall plays a man left to raise his children after his wife leaves him and goes to England to start a new family. However after the wife dies, she requests to be buried in the States, which brings together the woman’s American and English families for the first time – and not surprisingly, things get complicated. No UK release is currently set.
