Stan & Ollie Trailer – Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly take on the classic comedians

September 24, 2018 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Synopsis: ‘The true story of Hollywood’s greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time. Starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly as the inimitable movie icons, Stan & Ollie is the heart-warming story of what would become the pair’s triumphant farewell tour.

‘With their golden era long behind them, the pair embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) – a formidable double act in their own right – the pair’s love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public.’

Stan & Ollie will be in UK cinemas, January 2019. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Ideal Home UK Trailer – Paul Rudd & Steve Coogan become a bickering gay couple

May 14, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last month we got our first look at Ideal Home, which sees Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan teaming up to play a married gay couple. That trailer got a lot of people hot under the cover about how good Rudd looks with full beard.

Now it’s been announced that Ideal Home will be available in cinemas and on Digital HD from 6th July 2018, courtesy of Signature Entertainment. Alongside that has come the UK trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Flamboyant TV chef Erasmus Brumble (Coogan) along with his director and long-term partner Paul (Rudd), are happy going through life playing as hard as they work. But suddenly they have to decide whether to grow-up or continue down their well-trodden path, when Erasmus’s estranged grandson, Bill (played by Jack Gore), unexpectedly turns up at their door, after his father is taken away to serve time in prison.

‘Having another mouth to feed can always come with its strains, but the couple’s fears that they are not yet cut out to be devoted parents become apparent very quickly, with their lavish social lifestyle (and an extensive erotic film collection) getting in the way of their duties as responsible guardians. As unsuited as this small family may initially seem, the loving bond they eventually form is threatened to be broken when Bill’s father warns he’ll take him away upon his release from jail.’

Take a look at the UK poster and trailer below. Plus, there’s a new close-up of beardy Paul Rudd for those who like that sort of thing! [Read more…]

Ideal Home Trailer – Gay couple Paul Rudd & Steve Coogan get an unexpected grandson

April 10, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We got the first picture from Ideal Home back in May 2016, with the film started shooting and we discovered Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan were teaming up to play a married gay couple. It’s taken a while but the trailer for the film has now arrived, with a US release of June 21st set.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Steve Coogan and Paul Rudd star as Erasmus and Paul, a bickering gay couple whose life is turned inside out when a ten-year old boy shows up at their door claiming to be Erasmus’ grandson. Neither Paul, nor Erasmus, are ready to give up their extravagant lifestyles to be parents, but maybe this little kid has thing or two to teach them about the value of family.’

Take a look at the trailer below. Unfortunately it’s not clear when we might get to see it in the UK. [Read more…]

The Dinner Trailer – Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney & Rebecca Hall reveal their secrets

March 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At one point, The Dinner was going to be Cate Blanchett’s feature directorial debut, with Oren Moverman on scripting duties. However, she moved on and the adaptation of Herman Koch’s novel saw Moverman shift into the director’s chair. He’s an interesting choice, having written movies such as I’m Not There and directed The Messenger and Rampart.

In The Dinner, ‘Paul has no desire to go out to dinner with his brother Stan, a well-known politician, and his sister-in-law Barbara. But his wife Claire insists on him accompanying her. The couples meet at a hip restaurant but, in between each exquisite course, dark family secrets are brought out onto the table. The couples’ sons are responsible for a terrible crime — as yet undiscovered — and their parents must now decide how to deal with the situation. An argument soon ensues, since public disclosure would change the lives of each of them forever.’

Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney and Rebecca Hall play the movie’s main quartet. You can take a look at the trailer below. It’ll be in US cinemas in May. No UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Get Your First Look At Paul Rudd & Steve Coogan As A Married Gay Couple In Ideal Home

May 16, 2016 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

ideal-home-paul-rudd-steve-cooganBack in February it was announced that Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan were getting married – at least on screen. Now, to mark the beginning of shooting on the film (it went before the camera starting May 11th in New Mexico), the first pic has been released via THR.

The film sees Rudd and Coogan as a troubled, bickering married couple with an extravagant life. Coogan is a demanding celebrity while Rudd is his more hesitant partner and sidekick (although as the pic shows, he’s looking pretty cool). Their relationship is thrown a complete curveball when the grandson that Coogan’s character never knew he had shows up at their home with nowhere else to go. The couple reluctantly decide to take him in, forcing them to take stock of their relationship.

However, I have to say I’m not sure whether the cowboy look is Coogan’s best.

Andrew Fleming, who’s previously made the likes of Threesome, The Craft and Hamlet 2 (which starred Coogan) will direct. It’ll hopefully not be too long before it’s in cinemas (it’s currently looking for distributors at Cannes).

Steve Coogan & John C. Reilly Set For Laurel & Hardy Biopic

January 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steve-coogan

It’s difficult to think of two actors who’d seem a good fit for a biopic of legendary silent movie comics Laurel & Hardy. However, THR reports the people behind a movie about the men have found two people who would seem to be perfect – Steve Coogan & John C. Reilly.

According to the trader paper, Stan & Ollie is ‘described as an “emotional tribute to two of the funniest men in movie history” and focuses on their real-life tour of the variety halls of the U.K. as aging stars in 1953. The now-famous tour would see the double act set out “with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them.” But despite initially disappointing attendances, the shows would soon become hits, with Laurel and Hardy reconnecting with fans, old and new, while rediscovering how much they mean to each other as they come to terms with the end of their careers.’

That said, Stan Laurel never fully did come to terms with the end of his career, as it’s said he continued to write Laurel & Hardy skits and scripts even after Oliver Hardy died.

The project will reunite Coogan with his Philomena co-writer Jeff Pope, while Jon S. Baird (Filth) will direct. It’s not clear when the movie will shoot.

Philomena (Cinema)

November 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Steve Coogan, Judi Dench, Anna Maxwell Martin, Mare Winningham
Director: Stephen Frears
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: November 1st 2013

Peter Mullan’s 2002 film The Magdalene Sisters was a howl of outrage at the Catholic Church in Ireland; a coruscating, raw drama about the abuse of young girls basically held prisoner by sadistic nuns after falling pregnant.

Stephen Freers’ Philomena has basically the same theme but is, by comparison, a gentle, warm story, which seems too timid to unveil the same power as Mullan’s film. Dench and Coogan have rightly garnered strong reviews for their performances, but the film’s script seems too scared of going for the emotional knockout punch, despite the real power of the story. Our Idiot Brother (Blu-ray)

September 16, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Paul Rudd, Emily Mortimer, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Steve Coogan
Director: Jesse Peretz
Running Time: 90 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 16th 2013

It’s taken a long time for Our Idiot Brother to reach the UK. It was released in the US just over two years ago, but it’s only now making it onto DVD and Blu-ray. Considering the awesome cast, it might seem surprising it’s taken so long, but after watching the slightly underwhelming film I can understand why nobody felt in too much of a rush.

Paul Rudd plays the titular idiot, Ned, who lives on an organic farm with his girlfriend, but gets busted and locked up for selling pot to a uniformed police officer. After being let out of prison, he discovers his girlfriend has taken up with another man and won’t allow him back on the farm. Ned’s not even allowed to take his beloved dog, Willie Nelson. Philomena Trailer – Steve Coogan teams up with Judi Dench

August 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Judi Dench and Steve Coogan play unlikely friends in Philomena, the moving, funny and at times shocking true story of one woman’s search for a lost son. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived, which you can watch here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Falling pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena was sent to the convent of Roscrea to be looked after as a “fallen woman”. When her baby was only a toddler, he was taken away by the nuns for adoption in America. Philomena spent the next fifty years searching for him but with no success.

‘Then she met Martin Sixsmith, a world-weary political journalist who happened to be intrigued by her story. Together they set off to America on a journey that would not only reveal the extraordinary story of Philomena’s son, but also create an unexpectedly close bond between Philomena and Martin.

‘The film is a compelling narrative of human love and loss that ultimately celebrates life, showing that there is laughter even in the darkest places.’

Directed by BAFTA winner Stephen Frears (The Queen), Philomena will open in the UK and Ireland on 1st November 2013. [Read more…]

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Trailer – Steve Coogan brings the Norfolk DJ to the big screen

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are a lot of people waiting very excitedly for Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, and now we get our first proper taste of where Steve Coogan’s creation will make a successful transfer to the big screen with a trailer.

Alan Partridge has had many ups and downs in his life – national television broadcaster, responsible for killing a guest on live TV, local radio broadcaster, and having a nervous breakdown in Dundee. His self-published book, ‘Bouncing Back’, was subsequently remaindered and pulped.

The film portrays the events of the greatest low-to-high-ebb spectrum in his life to date – specifically how he tries to salvage his public career while negotiating a potentially violent turn of events at North Norfolk Digital Radio.

The film hits UK cinemas on August 7th. [Read more…]
