It’s certainly been noticeable in the past year or two that an increasing amount of gay-themed thrillers have been released. Some have been good, some have been dreadful and now we have The Dark Place, which sits somewhere in the middle.

Keegan Dark (Blaise Embry) is a young man who’s long been estranged from his family, but agrees to go with his boyfriend Wil (Timo Descamps) to see his mother at her vineyard. His first shock is that when he arrives he discovers that his mom, Celeste (Shannon Day), has a new husband, Adrian (Andy Copeland), and as a result Keegan suddenly has a stepbrother, Jake (Sean Paul Lockhart). The Dark Place Trailer – A young man’s life is at stake in the gay-themed thriller

October 20, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dark-place-dvd-cover-slideIn the last few years there’s been a concerted effort to expand gay-themed film from the realms of drama and comedy. That continues with the thriller The Dark Place, which has been finding success of the LGBT film festival circuit and will be heading to DVD and VOD in the US on December 2nd, 2014.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Long estranges from his widowed mother, Keegan Dark is blessed with the uncanny ability to remember his life in videographic detail. And cursed by it as well — he’s unable to forget any of his life’s numerous tragedies. He returns, boyfriend in tow, to his family’s vineyard estate to finally make amends, and is shocked to discover that his mother has remarried. He suddenly has a stepfather and stepbrother, both far more perfect than he could ever hope to be.

‘As Keegan resigns himself to forever being on the outs, a series of mysterious – and ominous – events unfold, forcing Keegan to unravel a conspiracy that frames him for murder, threatens his inheritance, and endangers his family’s lives and livelihood.’

The film’s cast includes Blaise Embry as Keegan Dark, Timo Descamps as Wil Roelen and Sean Paul Lockhart as Jake Bishop.

Judas Kiss (DVD)

November 23, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Charlie David, Richard Harmon, Timo Descamps, Sean Paul Lockhart
Director: J.T. Tepnapa
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: November 7th, 2011

If you discovered that you’d somehow managed to have sex with yourself, you’d be pretty freaked out, wouldn’t you? I would, but Zachary in Judas Kiss seems amazingly unphased by this and the other temporal peculiarities he faces, other than making a couple of irate phone calls. It’s a bit of a necessary evil in the film, as while Judas Kiss constantly fails to think through the implications of what it’s doing, the movie would stop dead in its track if it did.

Charlie David plays Zachary, a man who after a decade trying to make it as a film director and only managing to get a reputation as the best partyer in town, is now aimless and rather bitter. He reluctantly agrees to fill in as a judge for a film competition at the university he dropped out of years before. His first night back at his alma mater, he meets and sleeps with a young man (Daniel Harmon), only to discover the next day that the kid is one of the competitors he’s meant to judge. [Read more…]
