High-Rise Trailer – Tom Hiddleston gets naked in a retro-futuristic apartment building

February 9, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

high-rise-trailer-slideHigh-Rise got slightly mixed reports at its film festival screenings (although some people absolutely adored it), but there’s no doubt it looks like a really interesting movie – and everyone who’s seen it has praised its ambition and visual style. That style is certainly on show in the new trailer for the movie, which you can watch below.

Some of you will also be pleased to know that the trailer gives us a look at a bit of near nudity from Tom Hiddleston, who seems to have a thing for naked sunbathing in the movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘1975. Two miles west of London, Dr. Robert Laing moves into his new apartment seeking soulless anonymity, only to find that the building’s residents have no intention of leaving him alone. Resigned to the complex social dynamics unfolding around him, Laing bites the bullet and becomes neighbourly. As he struggles to establish his position, Laing’s good manners and sanity disintegrate along with the building. The lights go out and the lifts fail but the party goes on. People are the problem. Booze is the currency. Sex is the panacea. Only much later, as he sits on his balcony eating the architect’s dog, does Dr. Robert Laing finally feel at home…..’

Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss star, with Ben Wheatley directing this adaptation of JG Ballard’s novel. High-Rise arrives in UK cinemas on 18th March.

New High-Rise Teaser Trailer – Tom Hiddleston is living in a retro-futuristic dystopia

January 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

high-rise-teaser-slideA few weeks ago a teaser trailer for the much anticipated High-Rise dropped, but it didn’t show us too much of the movie, instead coming across as a faux promotional video for the retro-futuristic building referred to in the title. Now a more traditional teaser has arrived, suggesting this will be a bizarre but incredibly eye-catching movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘High-Rise centers on a new residential tower built on the eve of Thatcher’s England, at the site of what will soon become the world’s financial hub. Designed as a luxurious solution to the problems of the city, it is a world apart.

‘Enter Robert Laing (Hiddleston), a young doctor seduced by the high-rise and its creator, the visionary architect Anthony Royal (Irons). Laing discovers a world of complex loyalties, and also strikes up a relationship with Royal’s devoted aide Charlotte (Miller).

‘But rot has set in beneath the flawless surface. Sensing discord amongst the tenants, Laing meets Wilder, a charismatic provocateur bent on inciting the situation. Wilder initiates Laing into the hidden life of the high-rise and Laing is shocked at what he sees.

‘As the residents break into tribal factions, Laing finds himself in the middle of mounting violence. Violence that he also finds emerging in himself’.

The movie hits UK cinemas in March. Take a look at the teaser and a new poster below.

High Rise Teaser Trailer – Tom Hiddleston wants you to join him in a new way of living

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

high-rise-tom-hiddleston-slideThere’s been a lot of interest in Ben Wheatley’s take on JG Ballard’s dystopian tale High Rise, to the point that for some film fans, it’s the most anticipated movie of 2016. Now we can get our first taste, and there’s no doubt that it’s looking absolutely gorgeous, with Wheatley creating a mix of the 60s/70s and the future.

Many have said over the year that Ballard’s book is unfilmable, but it looks like they’re given it a damn good go, even if the reviews from film festivals have been decidedly mixed.

Cate Blanchett In Talks for Thor: Ragnarok

December 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate-BlanchettCate Blanchett has spent plenty of time in Middle Earth and now it looks like she’ll heading for Asgard, as Variety reports that she’s in talks to star in Thor: Ragnarok. It’s not known who she’ll be playing, or if it’s the same part of a female villain that Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain were said to be being considered for.

Suggestions for the character Blanchett will take on include Amora the Enchantress, Hela Goddess of Death, Karnila and the Warrior Queen Knorda, with most plumping for the first of those.

There’s been no official word on the plot either, but many believe it will follow the parts of the comic books where Loki uses the mold of Mjolnir to create new weapons, and with Thor’s hammer broken, war breaks out that threaten both Asgard and Earth. We do know however that the movie will include Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

Taika Waititi will direct, with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Jaimie Alexander all known to be returning. It’ll be in cinemas July 2017.

Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain & Tom Hiddleston Go Gothic In A New Crimson Peak Poster

August 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-poster2Everything we’ve seen for Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted house tale, Crimson Peak, has been impressively gothic, and that’s certainly true of the new poster that’s been released and which you can see above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Legendary Pictures’ Crimson Peak, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro, Matthew Robbins and Lucinda Coxon and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam.

‘In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers.’

Crimson Peak Trailer – Into Guillermo Del Toro’s haunted house with Tom Hiddleston & Jessica Chastain

May 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-pic2Normally you can’t keep Guillermo Del Toro from talking about his movies, but he’s been a tiny bit more secretive with Crimson Peak. But the shades of his haunted house are being pulled back with a new trailer.

As you’d expect from the director it certainly looks stylish with Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam and Mia Wasikowska getting a little creepy.

Crimson Peak Trailer – Tom Hiddleston & Charlie Hunnam deal with ghosts

February 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

crimson-peak-poster1Guillermo del Toro hasn’t released too much info on his new movie, Crimson Peak – initially just saying it was a haunted house film. However with the release approaching it’s time to give us a look with the first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Legendary Pictures’ CRIMSON PEAK, a co-production with Universal Pictures, is a haunting gothic horror story directed by the master of dark fairy tales, Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy series, Pacific Rim), written by del Toro and Matthew Robbins and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds…and remembers. First Look At Tom Hiddleston In Ben Wheatley’s High Rise

February 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tom-Hiddleston-High-RiseI’d almost forgotten about High Rise, but to remind me the first picture from the movie has arrives, via Empire, showing Tom Hiddleston looking rather moody in an elevator.

The film comes from A Field In England and Sightseers director Ben Wheatley, based on J.G. Ballard’s dystopian novel.

One of the more interesting things is that while there’s been a lot of interest by movie types in the novel over the years, many considered it unfilmable. However now it’s in the can, with Hiddleston starring alongside starring alongside the likes of Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, James Purefoy, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss.

‘As the residents break into tribal factions, Laing finds himself in the middle of mounting violence. Violence that he also finds emerging in himself’

It should be in cinemas later this year.

Michael Keaton May Head With Tom Hiddleston To Kong: Skull Island

January 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-keatonFollowing his potentially Oscar-winning role in Birdman, Hollywood seems to have suddenly remembered the talent that is Michael Keaton. He’s suddenly become far more in demand than he has been for many years, and that includes the makers of Kong: Skull Island, who are finalising a deal for Keaton to star, according to THR.

Assuming that deal comes together, he will star alongside Tom Hiddleston and J.K. Simmons in the film, which is a prequel to King Kong. Not too much is known about the plot specifics, but the movie will be entirely set on Skull Island, the mysterious place full of dinosaurs and monsters, along with giant apes. The speculation is that it will be about how Kong became the last of the giant gorillas, while also giving an explanation for how outsiders knew about the island and so set sail to later find and capture Kong.

It isn’t known who Keaton will play, although it’s believed the three actors currently cast will be the core of a group who set out to explore the island..

Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer), will direct from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein. A March 10th, 2017 release date is already pencilled in.
