Life Trailer – Dane DeHaan & Robert Pattinson take on James Dean & photographer Dennis Stock

August 13, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

life-slideIt feel like we’ve been waiting eons for Life, the film about the meeting between James Dean very early in his career and life photographer Dennis Stock. However the movie is now on its way and the trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘LIFE tells the story of photographer Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) who convinced a rebellious young actor on the cusp of stardom, James Dean (Dane DeHaan) to allow him to shoot him for LIFE Magazine. The men take a trip from LA to Dean’s hometown of Fairmont, Indiana, via Times Square, New York so that Stock could, in his words, capture Dean in all the environments that had “affected and shaped the unique character “.

‘While Stock thinks he’s capturing a star in the moment before he breaks; in fact, he’s documenting Dean’s last moments of intimacy and simplicity. In the process of their journey, a deep affection and improbable friendship gradually develops between the two young men. Their trip would result in some of the most iconic images of the age and a new breed of film star.’

The movie is due out in the UK on September 25th. [Read more…]

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joel-edgertonThe first image from the movie Life was released a few days ago, so you’d have thought the cast would be complete by now, but it turns out at they’ve found room for one more, as Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan have been joined by Joel Edgerton, according to Variety.

The film is based on the true story of freelance photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson), who back in the 9150s was commissioned by Life Magazine to photograph up and coming movie star James Dean (DeHaan). They took journey from Los Angeles to New York, with the film following their burgeoning friendship along the way.

Edgerton is set to play Magnum Photography editor John Morris, who brokered the deal with Life Magazine for the photos. Ben Kingsley and Alessandra Mastronardi also star.

Anton Corbijn is directing from a screenplay by Luke Davies (Candy). The movie is already shooting and it’s likely to be in cinemas next year.

You can take a look at the first pic from the film below.

First Look At Dane DeHaan As James Dean & Robert Pattinson As Dennis Stock In Life

March 6, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

life-dane-dehaan1
When Dane DeHaan was cast as James Dean in Life, it seemed like a good fit, as the actor has more than a whiff of the 50s icon about him. Now we get our first look at him in the role, via EW, opposite Robert Pattinson as Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock.

The first pics features Dean and Stock traveling from the train station to Dean’s childhood home in Indiana.

The movie is a biopic about Dean and the friendship he formed with Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson). Stock was an up-and-coming photographer who took a gig in the early 1950s with the Magnum agency to shoot an emerging actor called James Dean.

The two men soon connected, with their friendship being charted through the iconic photos taken over the course of their friendship, which included a road trip from Los Angeles to New York and Indiana. This trip occurred just before Dean became a star. A few months later, he died in a fatal car accident.

It’s not known if the film will suggest Dean was bisexual (as many believe he was).

Anton Corbijn is directing the movie from a script by Luke Davies. The director comments ‘Rob has an intensity that I think Dennis would have. When I see Rob, I see an inner turmoil that is great for the role. And Dane is really interesting. He has a beautiful face, but it’s a hard face to grasp. It’s hard to see how Dane reads sometimes, and the same thing goes for James Dean.’

It’s currently unclear when we’ll get to see the movie.

Dane DeHaan Will Be James Dean In Life, With Robert Pattinson As His Friend

September 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dane-dehaan2Plenty of actors have played James Dean on screen over the years, and if you were going to pick which of Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan and Robert Pattinson was most likely to take on the legend, you might have thought the latter. However while both have signed up for the movie Life, it’s DeHaan who’ll be the Rebel Without A Cause star, according to ScreenDaily.

Anton Corbijn is directing the movie from a script by Luke Davies.

It’s not known if the film will suggest Dean was bisexual (as many believe he was), although with DeHaan’s next film getting homoerotic with Daniel Radcliffe in Kill Your Darlings, the young actor probably wouldn’t be against going period gay again.

A Most Wanted Man Trailer – First look at Anton Corbijn’s take on John Le Carre’s tale

June 6, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Following the success of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, there’s been a lot of interest taking more John Le Carre’s stories to the screen.

One that’s on its way is Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man, which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe, Daniel Bruhl and Robin Wright. Now the first trailer has arrived, which was put together to help the independent movie get international sales.

Set in Hamburg, Germany, the plot is about a mysterious man who is near death and looking to retrieve his late father’s fortune. Anton Corbijn Takes On Life, About James Dean & His Friend, Dennis Stock

May 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anton-corbijn-inside-out-slideThere have been a fair few movies about James Dean (although none that’s been a massive success), and now Control and The American director Anton Corbijn wants to add to the list, as THR reports he will helm Life, a biopic about Dean and the friendship he formed with Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock.

A few months later, Dean died in a fatal car accident.

It’s not known whether the film will suggest Dean was bisexual, as many say he was, or whether it will straighten hilm up.

It seems a good fit for Corbijn, who’s famed as a photographer as well as directing movies and music videos.

Life is eyeing a $10-15 million budget, with filming planned for early 2014. Expect to hear about ‘cool’ young actors lining up to play Dean soon.

Philip Seymour Hoffman May Be Anton Corbijn’s Most Wanted Man

February 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the success of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, John Le Carre seems quite popular in the movie world at the moment. Anton Corbijn, director of Control and The American, is one director sniffing around a Le Carre project, as he wants to adapt A Most Wanted Man, and now Deadline reports Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in final talks to headline the movie.

Adapted by Andrew Bovell (Edge Of Darkness) from Le Carré’s spy novel, the story centres on a Chechen/Russian Muslim who moves to Hamburg illegally, where he gets caught up in the international war on terror. Hoffman will play a rogue chief of a German spy unit who tries to put together the mystery over the man’s arrival in Hamburg. It’s partially based on Murat Kurnaz, a Turkish citizen living legally in German who was arrested in Pakistan in 2001 and packed off to Guantanamo Bay, before winning release in 2006.

There’s no news on when it might start shooting, but the producers will be looking for sales at the Berlin Film Fesitval.
