Blade Runner 2049 (Blu-ray Review) – An artificial Ryan Gosling needs to track down Harrison Ford

February 6, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Running Time: 164 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 5th 2018 (UK)

When it was first announced that a sequel to Blade Runner was in the works, it seemed like a bad idea. Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford are on a bit of a roll revisiting their greatest hits, following Scott’s Alien Prequels and Ford’s return to Indiana Jones and Star Wars. However, Blade Runner was such a singular movie – and one so far removed from the modern blockbuster – that it seemed a wholly bizarre idea to now be making a sequel.

Scott then handed the directing reigns across to Denis Villeneuve, which gave some guarded optimism following Sicario and Arrival, but it still seemed ill judged. [Read more…]

Wonder Woman (Blu-ray Review) – Can one woman beat the whole German army? Pretty much!

October 9, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Robin Wright, David Thewlis
Director: Patty Jenkins
Running Time: 141 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: October 9th 2017 (UK)

Although DC’s movies have done okay at the box office, the likes of Man Of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad certainly haven’t gained the same level of enthusiasm and fan fervour as Marvel’s movies. However, with Wonder Woman they hit the jackpot, with a movie that was well-received by critics, fans and general audiences, grossing over $800 million at the box office. It set a lot of records for a movie directed by a woman along the way, from being the most expensive film with a female director to the highest grossing.

The film starts out on the mystical island of Themyscira, home of the Amazons. Diana (Gal Gadot) has been trained to be the ultimate warrior, although her mother, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), is determined that she needs to be protected and shouldn’t find out the truth of her birth. [Read more…]

New Blade Runner 2049 Trailer – There’s a replicant mystery for Harrison Ford & Ryan Gosling

July 17, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Returning to the world of Blade Runner makes for an interesting trailer challenge for the studio’s marketing department. For many the film is one of the true classics of sci-fi, with a unique style and a tone that’s far more contemplative than most. However, there are also a lot of people out there who’ve never seen it and have grown up on a diet of bloated sci-fi excess. So how do you appeal to both crowds?

The new trailer does a good job of showing the effort that’s gone into recreating the grimy, holo-ad covered future, as well as that it will further explore how the likes of replicants work (with the help of a blind Jared Leto). It also shows that the scale has grown for those who demand non-stop action.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

‘The film also stars Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Barkhad Abdi, Lennie James, Mackenzie Davis, and Sylvia Hoeks.’

The film is due out in early October. [Read more…]

Wonder Woman Final Trailer – Gal Gadot & Chris Pine bring superheroes to WWI

May 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Next month Warner/DC will be hoping that they’ll be getting better reviews for Wonder Woman than they did for their last few films, and that critics and fanboys will finally be getting a bit more excited about their filmic universe. The latest trailer certainly make it look like it’ll be fun.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

‘Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg and Jason Fuchs, based on characters from DC. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.’

The movie will be in cinemas on June 1st. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Wonder Woman Origin Trailer – Gal Gadot & Chris Pine are bringing the comic book action

March 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago there were rumours that Wonder Woman was in trouble, and that the film was a bit of a mess. However, from the evidence of this trailer, it looks like it might be quite fun, not least because it seems to have a lighter tone and more of a sense of humour than most of the previous DC Universe movies. It also takes us back in time, for a superhero movie set during the First World War.

New Wonder Woman Trailer – Diana, princess of the Amazons, heads to the First World War

November 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wonder-woman-trailer-slideGal Gadot’s Wonder Woman made quite an impression in Batman v Superman, giving many people hope that her standalone movie will be able to get the DC film universe on track after the rather messy Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad. The movie is going the Captain America route of taking us into the past, with time World War 1.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Wonder Woman” is released in cinemas around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior.

‘Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston. The film is produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder and Richard Suckle, with Rebecca Roven, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with RatPac-Dune Entertainment, an Atlas Entertainment/Cruel and Unusual production, “Wonder Woman.” The film is scheduled for release on June 2, 2017, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.’

Wonder Woman Trailer – Take your first proper look at Gal Gadot in the standalone adventure

July 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wonder-woman-poster-slideWhile Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was introduced earlier this year in Batman v Superman, but while we’ve known she was getting a standalone adventure and have had a couple of pictures, it’s only know we get our first proper look at the movie. To tie-in with Comic Con the debut trailer has arrived.

Robin Wright In Talks For Key Role In Blade Runner Sequel

March 31, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robin-wrightFor a few years now a sequel to Blade Runner has been in the works, which had the backing of both Harrison Ford and Ridley Scott. While Scott was attached to direct at one point, he’ll now only produce, with Denis Villeneuve helming.

Ryan Gosling has also been attached to star for quite a while, but it now seems they’re ready to move the project forwards, with THR reporting that Robin Wright is in final talks for a key role in the movie. There’s no info on the plot, although there are apparently three key female roles, with Wright nabbing on of them. Ford will also be back as Rick Deckard.

Wright’s involvement was dependent on her schedule, as she’s shooting Wonder Woman now, and also has the next season of House Of Cards to squeeze in. However, it looks like they’ve sorted things out and she will be ready to shoot the Blade Runner sequel when it starts filming in July.

First Look At Wonder Woman Alongside The Amazonian Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli

March 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wonder-woman-and-amazonsTo tie in with the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, a new pic from Wonder Woman has been released, featuring the title character alongside some of the Amazonian women, including Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright and Lisa Loven Kongsli.

Nielsen is playing Wonder Woman’s mom, Hippolyta, with Wright as General Antiope and Kongsli as Antiope’s lieutenant, Menalippe. All of them live on Themyscira, a island that is hidden from the rest of the world, where the fierce Amazonian women of Greek legend still thrive.

EW comments, ‘Hippolyta, a revolutionary leader, longs to shelter her beloved daughter from the outside world, but Antiope, the Amazon responsible for Diana’s training, wants to prepare her. “She is the only child they raised together,” says [director, Patty Jenkins], calling from outside London, where she is deep into the film’s production. “And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.”

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman makes her debut in Batman v Superman, all ready to set up her own solo adventure, which Warner/DC will bring to cinemas in June 2017.
