All I See Is You Trailer – Blake Lively regains her sight & things get psychosexual

October 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite the success of World War Z, reports of major problems on the set certainly hit his reputation. Now he’s returned with something rather different and on a smaller scale than either World War Z or Forster’s James Bond movie that preceded it, Quantum Of Solace.

Here’s the synopsis of All I See If You: ‘Gina is a beautiful young woman who’s still haunted by the accident that took her sight years earlier. Living in Bangkok with her husband, James, she undergoes a cutting-edge operation that restores the vision to her right eye. Now that Gina can see again, she slowly starts to realize that her newfound independence makes James feel jealous, threatened and insecure.’

Blake Lively, Jason Clarke, Yvonne Strahovski, Danny Huston, Ahna O’Reilly and Wes Chatham star. It’s due out in the US on October 27th. No UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Wonder Woman (Blu-ray Review) – Can one woman beat the whole German army? Pretty much!

October 9, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Robin Wright, David Thewlis
Director: Patty Jenkins
Running Time: 141 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: October 9th 2017 (UK)

Although DC’s movies have done okay at the box office, the likes of Man Of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad certainly haven’t gained the same level of enthusiasm and fan fervour as Marvel’s movies. However, with Wonder Woman they hit the jackpot, with a movie that was well-received by critics, fans and general audiences, grossing over $800 million at the box office. It set a lot of records for a movie directed by a woman along the way, from being the most expensive film with a female director to the highest grossing.

The film starts out on the mystical island of Themyscira, home of the Amazons. Diana (Gal Gadot) has been trained to be the ultimate warrior, although her mother, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), is determined that she needs to be protected and shouldn’t find out the truth of her birth. [Read more…]

Masters Of Sex – Season 2 (DVD Review)

June 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Caitlin FitzGerald, Beau Bridges, Danny Huston
Director: Various
Running Time: 671 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 1st 2015 (UK)

It’s back to the repressed 1950s in Masters Of Sex – Season 2, where Bill Master (Michael Sheen) is still dealing with the fact the world is less ready for his study into the body’s physiological response to sex than even he expected. He’s been let go from the hospital and is finding it tough to find somewhere to resume his work. Even when he finds a new hospital, it may not be the perfect fit he was hoping.

Things are complicated by his new baby, especially as he is aware the child probably isn’t biologically his. That also puts pressure on his relationship with his wife, as does his increasingly complicated relationship with the co-author of the study, Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan). Their sexual dynamic has stretched beyond their scientific experimentation, but they still wish to maintain a strong working relationship. [Read more…]

Big Eyes (Blu-ray Review)

April 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, Danny Huston, Krysten Ritter, Terence Stamp
Director: Tim Burton
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: March 20th 2015 (UK)

Except for a few moments, Big Eyes is Tim Burton’s least Tim Burton-y movie for a long time. In fact it’s a relatively low key and straightforward affair which relies on the fact it’s got an interesting story to tell and knows that when you have actors like Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, it’s often best to just get out of their way and allow them to shine.

The film tells the true story of Margaret (Adams), who leaves her husband and heads for San Francisco with her young daughter where she hopes to make money from her art. That proves difficult, until she meets Walter Keane (Waltz), who also selling paintings and charms her with his stories of studying at a prestigious Parisian art school. [Read more…]

Danny Huston May Take On Tim Burton’s Big Eyes

May 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

danny-hustonA few months ago, Tim Burton decided to leave the fantastical behind and take on the biopic Big Eyes, and now he’s filling out the cast, with THR reporting that Danny Huston is in talks to star in the film.

The movie is based on the fascinating true story of artists Margaret Keane and Walter Keane (Amy Adams & Christoph Waltz), whose bizarre paintings featuring large eyed characters were beloved across the world in the 1960s. However, Margaret later claimed she was the true artist behind all the big-eyed paintings, and that the rather pompous and self-obsessed Walter (who spoke about himself in the third person and compared himself to Rembrandt and El Greco) stole all the credit for her work.

It set off a long running dispute between the two which ended in court battles, and a rather dramatic moment in court where the judge asked both to do some painting. Walter refused to do so because of a pain in his arm, but Margaret quickly crafted one of her trademark paintings.

Huston will play a burnt-out, heavy-drinking gossip reporter.

Filming is due to kick off this summer, with Burton working from a script by Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander.

Hitchcock (Cinema)

February 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Danny Huston, Toni Collette, James D'Arcy, Scarlett Johansson
Director: Sasha Gervasi
Running Time: 98 mins
Certificate: 12A
Release Date: February 8th 2013

Anthony Hopkins gave some amazing performances in the 1980s and 1990s, but for the last decade or so it’s seemed like he’s simply turned up for his paycheque. However it turns that to get him to give a real performance you’ve got to give him a role where he doesn’t have much choice but to act. After all, Alfred Hitchcock is far too well known for Hopkins just to have coasted it. Thankfully he doesn’t, not just doing a dead-on impersonations of the master director, but creating a fully realised character in a way Toby Jones couldn’t quite manage in the recent, The Girl. Toni Collette & Danny Huston Join Making of Psycho

March 22, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Just yesterday, we reported that Jessica Biel had joined the cast of Sacha Gervasi’s Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, and now Variety reports that Toni Collette, Danny Huston, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Michael Wincott are in talks as well.

As the title suggests, the movie is about famed director Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) as he struggles to create his 1960 horror classic Psycho, which despite his stature in movie world, was a tough project he got little support for before its release. Helen Mirren is also onboard as Hitchcock’s wife, Alma, while Scarlet Johansson and James D’Arcy will be Psycho stars Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins.

Toni Collette will play Peggy Robertson, the director’s longtime assistant, while Danny Huston is portraying Whitfield Cook, a friend of the Hitchcock’s wife. Michael Stuhlbarg will play Alfred’s agent, the legendary Lew Wasserman, while Michael Wincott will be Ed Gein, the famed killer whose exploits Psycho is partially based on.

Production is due to begin in the next few months.

Luke Wilson and Kevin Connolly Join Elvis & Nixon

November 18, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Last week it was announced that Eric Bana had signed on to play Elvis Presley and Danny Huston would be Richard Nixon in Elvis & Nixon, which marks the directorial debut of actor Cary Elwes. It’s an unusual mix of talent and subject matter, and not a couple more actors have joined the throng, with Kevin Connolly and Luke Wilson both in talks for the movie.

The movie centres on a real-life 1970 meeting between the President and the King at the White House, which took place after Elvis Presley wrote a six-page letter requesting permission to visit. Luke Wilson will play Sonny, a member of Elvis Presley’s “Memphis Mafia,” who accompanies the rock icon on his Washington visit. Kevin Connolly will play a limo driver named Ronnie.

Cary Elwes will direct Elvis & Nixon from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Sagal and Hanala Sagal. Production will begin this coming January in Louisiana.

Eric Bana Takes On Elvis

October 24, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Here’s a rather odd but potentially interesting one. According to Variety, Aussie actor Eric Bana has signed on to play Elvis Presley, with Danny Huston in negotiations to play Richard Nixon in Elvis & Nixon. If that weren’t unexpected enough, the film will also mark the directorial debut of Cary Elwes.

The movie is about a Dec. 21, 1970, visit that Elvis Presley paid to Richard Nixon at the White House. The meeting was initiated by Elvis Presley, who wrote Richard Nixon a six-page letter requesting a visit and suggesting that he be made a “Federal Agent-at-Large” in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. Elvis Presley brought with him family photos and a Colt 45 pistol as a personal gift to the president.

Cary Elwes co-wrote the screenplay along with Joey Sagal and Hanala Sagal. The movie will shoot soon.
