New Home Again Trailer – Reese Witherspoon ends up with an unexpected chosen family

June 17, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Reese Witherspoon returns to the genre she’s had the greatest success with – the rom-com – with Home Again. However, she’s grown up a bit since Legally Blonde, as she’s now playing a woman who’s recently become a single mom and decides to change her life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘HOME AGAIN stars Reese Witherspoon (Wild, This Means War, Legally Blonde) as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband (Michael Sheen, Passengers, Nocturnal Animals), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters, and struggles to get her fledgling design career off the ground whilst also navigating the family’s new life. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three young, charismatic filmmakers (Nat Wolff, Pico Alexander and Jon Rudnitsky) who she decides to take in while they try their hand in Hollywood. An unconventional family dynamic emerges, leading them all on an unexpected journey of discovery.

‘Produced by Nancy Meyers (The Intern, It’s Complicated, What Women Want, The Holiday) and written and directed by her daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer, HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create. And one very big life lesson: Starting over is not for beginners..’

The movie will be in UK cinemas at the end of September. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Home Again Trailer – Reese Witherspoon heads back to rom com land

May 14, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Reese Withspoon saw much of her early success in a string of rom coms, and now she’s headed back into the genre with Home Again. Michael Sheen, Candice Bergen, and Lake Bell also star.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘HOME AGAIN stars Reese Witherspoon (Wild, This Means War, Legally Blonde) as Alice Kinney in a modern romantic comedy. Recently separated from her husband (Michael Sheen, Passengers, Nocturnal Animals), Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers (Nat Wolff, Pico Alexander and Jon Rudnitsky) who happen to be in need of a place to live. Alice agrees to let the guys stay in her guest house temporarily, but the arrangement ends up unfolding in unexpected ways. Alice’s unlikely new family and new romance comes to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand.

‘Produced by Nancy Meyers (The Intern, It’s Complicated, What Women Want, The Holiday) and written and directed by her daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer, HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create. And one very big life lesson: Starting over is not for beginners.’

Wilde (Blu-ray Review)

December 14, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Stephen Fry, Jude Law, Tom Wilkinson, Michael Sheen, Jennifer Ehle
Director: Brian Gilbert
Running Time: 118 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 14th 2015 (UK)

I’m almost surprised 1997’s Wilde hasn’t made it to Blu-ray in the UK before, but it’s now arrived, giving us an HD look at the biopic of legendary writer and wit Oscar Wilde, as played by Stephen Fry. At the beginning of the movie Oscar is already well-known and meets the pretty young Constance (Jennifer Ehle), whom he marries.

However, there is another side of him, initially brought out by Robbie Ross (Michael Sheen), that seeks the emotional and physical intimacy of men. Oscar begins to see it rather like the Greek ideal, where he is the older man, passing down knowledge to his ‘boys’, as well as sleeping with them. Then he meets the beautiful Lord Alfred Douglas (Jude Law), known as Bosie – and if you’ve ever seen pics of the real Bosie, he was very good looking – and the two fall for one another. [Read more…]

Masters Of Sex – Season 2 (DVD Review)

June 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Caitlin FitzGerald, Beau Bridges, Danny Huston
Director: Various
Running Time: 671 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 1st 2015 (UK)

It’s back to the repressed 1950s in Masters Of Sex – Season 2, where Bill Master (Michael Sheen) is still dealing with the fact the world is less ready for his study into the body’s physiological response to sex than even he expected. He’s been let go from the hospital and is finding it tough to find somewhere to resume his work. Even when he finds a new hospital, it may not be the perfect fit he was hoping.

Things are complicated by his new baby, especially as he is aware the child probably isn’t biologically his. That also puts pressure on his relationship with his wife, as does his increasingly complicated relationship with the co-author of the study, Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan). Their sexual dynamic has stretched beyond their scientific experimentation, but they still wish to maintain a strong working relationship. [Read more…]

Far From The Madding Crowd Trailer – Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts & Tom Sturridge star

February 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

far-from-the-madding-crowd-slideFar From The Madding Crowd may be one of Thomas Hardy’s classics, but due to having to study it at school, I have a rather great dislike for it. However even so, the new film version Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge doesn’t look too bad.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.’

The film is due out in the UK on May 1st, so should provide a bit of respite from the summer blockbuster overload. [Read more…]

Far From The Madding Crowd Teaser Trailer – Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts and Tom Sturridge take on Thomas Hardy

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

far-from-the-madding-crowd-poster1Having been forced to study it at school, I have an irrational hatred of Far From The Madding Crowd, but hopefully this new film version won’t be as tedious as the book (the 1967 movie with Julie Christie and Terence Stamp wasn’t bad, so there is hope).

This new take from director Thomas Vinterberg stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge, and now the first teaser trailer and poster have arrived.

It’ll be out in cinemas next Spring. [Read more…]

Masters Of Sex – Season 1 (DVD Review)

August 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Beau Bridges, Nicholas D’Agosto, Teddy Sears
Director: Various
Running Time: 649 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 28th 2014 (UK)

Masters Of Sex is certainly a provocative title, and one that could promise a lot but deliver little. Thankfully though that’s far from the case with this excellent series, which takes a fictionalised look at the real-life Dr. Williams Master (Martin Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), who revolutionised our understanding of sex by looking at it scientifically.

It’s amazing to think that in the 1950s we’d split the atom, begun to understand quantum physics, built skyscrapers that reached over 1,000 feet into the sky, and yet we knew remarkably little about something as fundamental as sex, largely due to prurience. [Read more…]

July 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mary-Elizabeth-WinsteadA few weeks ago Jeremy Renner got his first co-stars in the thriller Kill The Messenger, Rosemarie Dewitt and Paz Vega. Now the cast has swelled massively with a slew of great names, as Collider reports that Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen, Andy Garcia, Tim Blake Nelson, Robert Patrick, Barry Pepper and Oliver Platt have all signed on for the movie.

In an effort to discredit the writer, the agency launched a smear campaign before the journalist tragically his own life.

There’s no news on exactly who the cast members will play.

Shooting has already begun, with Michael Cuesta directing from a screenplay by Peter Landesman, which is adapted from Gary Webb’s book Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion, as well as Nick Schou’s Kill the Messenger: How the CIA’s Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb.
