2013’s Now You See Me proved a far bigger hit than most people expected, which has ensured we’ve now got a follow-up. After their Robin Hood exploits in the first movie, illusionists The Horsemen have been in hiding, waiting for ‘The Eye’ to tell them what they should do next. They also have a new member, with Lizzy Caplan’s Lula joining Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Jack (Dave Franco) and Merritt (Woody Harrelson), along with their leader, FBI Agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo).

They get an assignment to take down someone who’s destroying personal privacy, but their comeback goes wrong when they’re hacked, kidnapped and taken to Macau, China. There they meet Walter Mabry (Daniel Radcliffe), who tells them that it was largely his money they stole in the first movie, and that they now have to do his bidding if they want to live. Now You See Me 2 Teaser Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe tries a different kind of magic

November 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

now-you-see-me-2-pic1-slideOh the hilarity, Daniel Radcliffe is rubbish at magic! Let’s not hope that’s the whole joke with Now You See Me 2 (I presume it’s not), but this teaser trailer seems to love the idea of it.

Here’s the sequel’s synopsis: ‘THE FOUR HORSEMEN [Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan] return for a second mind-bending adventure, elevating the limits of stage illusion to new heights and taking them around the globe.

‘One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their Robin Hood-style magic spectacles, the illusionists resurface for a comeback performance in hopes of exposing the unethical practices of a tech magnate. The man behind their vanishing act is none other than WALTER MABRY [Daniel Radcliffe], a tech prodigy who threatens the Horsemen into pulling off their most impossible heist yet.

‘Their only hope is to perform one last unprecedented stunt to clear their names and reveal the mastermind behind it all.’

The film hits cinemas next June.

June 1, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Caitlin FitzGerald, Beau Bridges, Danny Huston
Director: Various
Running Time: 671 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: June 1st 2015 (UK)

It’s back to the repressed 1950s in Masters Of Sex – Season 2, where Bill Master (Michael Sheen) is still dealing with the fact the world is less ready for his study into the body’s physiological response to sex than even he expected. He’s been let go from the hospital and is finding it tough to find somewhere to resume his work. Even when he finds a new hospital, it may not be the perfect fit he was hoping.

Things are complicated by his new baby, especially as he is aware the child probably isn’t biologically his. That also puts pressure on his relationship with his wife, as does his increasingly complicated relationship with the co-author of the study, Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan). Their sexual dynamic has stretched beyond their scientific experimentation, but they still wish to maintain a strong working relationship. [Read more…]

Masters Of Sex – Season 1 (DVD Review)

August 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Michael Sheen, Lizzy Caplan, Beau Bridges, Nicholas D’Agosto, Teddy Sears
Director: Various
Running Time: 649 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 28th 2014 (UK)

Masters Of Sex is certainly a provocative title, and one that could promise a lot but deliver little. Thankfully though that’s far from the case with this excellent series, which takes a fictionalised look at the real-life Dr. Williams Master (Martin Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), who revolutionised our understanding of sex by looking at it scientifically.

It’s amazing to think that in the 1950s we’d split the atom, begun to understand quantum physics, built skyscrapers that reached over 1,000 feet into the sky, and yet we knew remarkably little about something as fundamental as sex, largely due to prurience. [Read more…]

Frankie Go Boom (DVD)

March 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Charlie Hunnam, Chris O'Dowd, Lizzy Caplan, Chris Noth, Ron Perlman
Director: Jordan Roberts
Running Time: 85 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: March 25th 2013

Farce is a tough thing to get right even if you follow all the rules. Frankie Go Boom gets very close to being great – the actors are good (and appear to be having a lot of fun) and many of the scenes are very funny. However it ultimately falls foul of the problem that causes many farces to come a cropper – it’s actively nonsensical, which is rather frustrating.

Frankie (Charlie Hunnam) is used to being made a laughing stock by his older brother, Bruce (Chris O’Dowd). For example, Bruce put Frankie’s wedding video on the web, even though it featured Frankie discovering his wife-to-be was cheating on him, before he punches and then vomits on her. Unsurprisingly it was a viral sensation. [Read more…]
