Jake Gyllenhaal & Carey Mulligan To Star In Paul Dano’s Directorial Debut Wildlife

September 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-danoA couple of month ago it was revealed that There Will Be Blood and Little Miss Sunshine’s Paul Dano was planning his directorial debut with an adaptation of Richard Ford’s Wildlife. Now he’s found a starry cast to help him, with Variety reporting that Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan are attached to star.

Ford’s novel ‘tells the tale of a boy who witnesses his parents’ marriage falling apart after his mom finds another man’. Dano has also co-written the script alongside Zoe Kazan.

Dano comments, “In Richard’s book I saw myself and many others. I have always wanted to make films — and have always known I would make films about family. I couldn’t be happier to have such beautiful collaborators like Carey and Jake leading the way.”

Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan & Jason Clarke Are Set To Be Mudbound

March 22, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

garrett-hedlundMudbound isn’t exactly the most exciting name for a movie, but the indie drama has attracted a good cast, with Variety reporting that Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke and Jason Mitchell are all in talks to star. Dee Rees (Bessie, Pariah) is set to direct.

The film, ‘revolves around a city worker in a WWII-torn country who relocates his family to a failing Mississippi farm and is forced to overcome insurmountable hardships, including his brother’s return from war.’ Virgil Williams wrote the script, based on Hillary Jordan’s novel.

The film is currently looking for financing, with the film hoping to shoot later this year.

Suffragette Trailer – The Carey Mulligan, Ben Whishaw & Meryl Streep movie will also open the London Film Festival

June 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suffragette-pic2The London Film Festival may not be until October, but there’s been a very early announcement of the opening film, as Suffragette will kick off the event with its European Premiere on October 7th. Alongside that news came the trailer for film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film stars Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw and Meryl Streep. It is directed by LFF alumna Sarah Gavron, who returns to the Festival for a third time, reteaming with her Brick Lane screenwriter Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady). SUFFRAGETTE is produced by Faye Ward and Alison Owen (Saving Mr. Banks, LFF Closing Night film, 2013).

‘SUFFRAGETTE is an intense drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement as they fought for the right to vote, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalised and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality – their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. The character of Maud, played by Carey Mulligan, is one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is both heart-breaking and inspirational.’

Take a look trailer below. The movie will reach UK cinemas on October 30th. [Read more…]

Suffragette Teaser Trailer – Carey Mulligan & Meryl Streep want women to vote

April 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suffragette-pic1With the UK going to the polls for a General Election on May 7th, Pathe Pictures has decided it’s the perfect time to release a teaser for the movie Suffragette. It’s been put out in support of the #votingmatters campaign, which highlights things such as the fact that more than 9 million women failed to vote in the 2010 election, and so there is a major campaign to get women to register to vote before the deadline on 20 April.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The film stars Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw and Meryl Streep. The film is directed by Sarah Gavron, who reteams with her Brick Lane screenwriter Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady), and is produced by Faye Ward and Alison Owen (Saving Mr Banks).

Far From The Madding Crowd Trailer – Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts & Tom Sturridge star

February 18, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

far-from-the-madding-crowd-slideFar From The Madding Crowd may be one of Thomas Hardy’s classics, but due to having to study it at school, I have a rather great dislike for it. However even so, the new film version Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge doesn’t look too bad.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching wilfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.’

The film is due out in the UK on May 1st, so should provide a bit of respite from the summer blockbuster overload. [Read more…]

Far From The Madding Crowd Teaser Trailer – Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts and Tom Sturridge take on Thomas Hardy

November 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

far-from-the-madding-crowd-poster1Having been forced to study it at school, I have an irrational hatred of Far From The Madding Crowd, but hopefully this new film version won’t be as tedious as the book (the 1967 movie with Julie Christie and Terence Stamp wasn’t bad, so there is hope).

This new take from director Thomas Vinterberg stars Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen and Tom Sturridge, and now the first teaser trailer and poster have arrived.

It’ll be out in cinemas next Spring. [Read more…]

Carey Mulligan & Helena Bonham Carter Want Votes For Women In The First Pic From Suffragette

June 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suffragette-pic1While most people know the Suffragettes fought the right to allow women to vote, not many people know that much about how they went about that (beyond someone jumping in front of the King’s horse). The film Suffragette hopes to help fill in the gaps in our knowledge.

Now Collider has posted the first picture from the movie featuring Carey Mulligan & Helena Bonham Carter on the streets fighting for women’s rights.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘SUFFRAGETTE is a thrilling drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality – their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. MAUD was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and visceral as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational.’

Brendan Gleeson, Anne Marie Duff, Ben Whishaw, Meryl Streep also star. An awards season release in expected, with the movie already set for UK cinemas on January 16th 2015.

Inside Llewyn Davis (Blu-ray Review)

May 27, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake
Director: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Running Time: 104 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: May 26th 2014 (UK)

It just goes to show how useful it is to have a ‘name’ in the film world. If most filmmakers had said they wanted to make a movie about a misanthropic 1960s folk singer who spends the first 25 minutes of the film trying to get a cat back to its owner, they’d have been laughed out of the room. However the Coen Brothers have the sort of clout that can get things done.

And while not one of their best, Inside Llewyn Davis is not a bad movie at all. [Read more…]

Ben Whishaw, Meryl Streep & Brendan Gleeson Join Suffragette

February 21, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-whishaw
A great cast is coming together for the women’s rights movie Suffragette as Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter, Romola Garai, Anne-Marie Duff and Samuel West have now been joined by Ben Whishaw, Meryl Streep and Brendan Gleeson have all signed on, according to Screen Daily.

Mullligan takes the central role a young woman who becomes part of the early British feminist movement, battling to get women the vote and engaging in violent acts to bring about change. Meryl Streep is playing small but pivotal role of leegendary suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst.

It’s not known exactly who the other actors will play.

Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) is directing from a screenplay by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, The Invisible Woman). Filming is set to start next week.

The film, ‘revolves around the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement: women who were forced underground in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State.’ Unfortunately there’s now specific plot details or info on who exactly the actresses will play.
