Wonder Woman 2 May Get Kristen Wiig As Its Villain

March 1, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While there was plenty of talk about how Wonder Woman was a sign that sexual equality in the world of superheroes wasn’t as impossible as some studio executives seemed to think. However, it’s not just the in the ranks of heroes where there’s been a lack of women – the supervillains have tended to be men too.

However, Wonder Woman 2 is looking at adding a female baddie, with Deadline reporting the Kristen Wiig is in talks to play Cheetah in the movie.

Gal Gadot will once more be back in the title role, with Patty Jenkins returning to direct the movie, which will be set during the Cold War in the 1980s. Nothing else is known about the plot, and while we may know Wiig is being lined up to play CHeetah, we don’t know which one, as there have been four incarnations of the villain over the years. All of the Cheetahs over the years have possessed feline characteristics, but some have had superpowers while other didn’t, so there’s plenty of scope for how the character will be used in the movie.

Wonder Woman 2 is currently set for released November 1st, 2019

Wonder Woman (Blu-ray Review) – Can one woman beat the whole German army? Pretty much!

October 9, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Danny Huston, Robin Wright, David Thewlis
Director: Patty Jenkins
Running Time: 141 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: October 9th 2017 (UK)

Although DC’s movies have done okay at the box office, the likes of Man Of Steel, Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad certainly haven’t gained the same level of enthusiasm and fan fervour as Marvel’s movies. However, with Wonder Woman they hit the jackpot, with a movie that was well-received by critics, fans and general audiences, grossing over $800 million at the box office. It set a lot of records for a movie directed by a woman along the way, from being the most expensive film with a female director to the highest grossing.

The film starts out on the mystical island of Themyscira, home of the Amazons. Diana (Gal Gadot) has been trained to be the ultimate warrior, although her mother, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), is determined that she needs to be protected and shouldn’t find out the truth of her birth. [Read more…]

May 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

‘Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg and Jason Fuchs, based on characters from DC. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.’

Wonder Woman Origin Trailer – Gal Gadot & Chris Pine are bringing the comic book action

March 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago there were rumours that Wonder Woman was in trouble, and that the film was a bit of a mess. However, from the evidence of this trailer, it looks like it might be quite fun, not least because it seems to have a lighter tone and more of a sense of humour than most of the previous DC Universe movies. It also takes us back in time, for a superhero movie set during the First World War.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. ‘Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg and Jason Fuchs, based on characters from DC. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.’

The movie will be in cinemas in early June. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Wonder Woman Trailer – Take your first proper look at Gal Gadot in the standalone adventure

July 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wonder-woman-poster-slideWhile Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was introduced earlier this year in Batman v Superman, but while we’ve known she was getting a standalone adventure and have had a couple of pictures, it’s only know we get our first proper look at the movie. To tie-in with Comic Con the debut trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Wonder Woman” is released in cinemas around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. First Look At Wonder Woman Alongside The Amazonian Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Lisa Loven Kongsli

March 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wonder-woman-and-amazonsTo tie in with the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, a new pic from Wonder Woman has been released, featuring the title character alongside some of the Amazonian women, including Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright and Lisa Loven Kongsli.

Nielsen is playing Wonder Woman’s mom, Hippolyta, with Wright as General Antiope and Kongsli as Antiope’s lieutenant, Menalippe. All of them live on Themyscira, a island that is hidden from the rest of the world, where the fierce Amazonian women of Greek legend still thrive.

EW comments, ‘Hippolyta, a revolutionary leader, longs to shelter her beloved daughter from the outside world, but Antiope, the Amazon responsible for Diana’s training, wants to prepare her. “She is the only child they raised together,” says [director, Patty Jenkins], calling from outside London, where she is deep into the film’s production. “And their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them.”

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman makes her debut in Batman v Superman, all ready to set up her own solo adventure, which Warner/DC will bring to cinemas in June 2017.

Connie Nielsen Signs Up To Be Wonder Woman’s Mom

January 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

connie-nielsen

Wonder Woman has been shooting for a while, but it hasn’t finished adding actors to its cast, as THR reports that Connie Nielsen has signed on, to play the superheroine’s mother, Hippolyta. She’ll now head for the set of the movie, which is currently shooting in the UK and Italy.

We still don’t know a vast amount about the movie, although it’s recently been confirmed that it will be set during World War I. It’s likely to follow at least the basics of the character’s origin story, with Chris Pine as a soldier who ends up injured and stranded on the island of Amazonia, where he is nursed back to health by Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. She then follows him to America, where she disguises herself as a normal person called Diana Prince between her bouts of being a hero.

However, we don’t know what Gadot and co. will be up against, or indeed how Hippolyta figures into this – although it’s likely that as Queen of the Amazonians, she won’t be too happy about her daughter leaving home.

Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis also star. The movie will be in cinemas June 23rd, 2017.

First Pic Of Chris Pine On The Wonder Woman Set Arrives

November 15, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

chris-pine-wonder-woman1Back in May Chris Pine signed on to play an important role in Warner/DC’s planned standalone Wonder Woman movie, and now he’s on the set all ready to be Steve Trevor.

An image of him in costume for the role has popped up on Twitter, showing that as has been speculated, the movie will definitely be set in the past (some had wondered if it would be brought to the present day due to Wonder Woman’s appearance in next year’s Batman vs Superman). That said, rumours suggest the second half of the film may move to the present day, although it’s not known if some sort of time travel device will allow Pine’s character to come along for the ride.

In the comics, Steve Trevor  crash lands on the Amazons’ home island of Paradise during World War II. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) falls for him after she nurses him back to health, and then when he returns to America she follows him – becoming Diana Prince, who in true comic fashion, Steve doesn’t realise is the same person as the hero, Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman is due out June 2017.

Patty Jenkins Replaces Michelle McLaren As Wonder Woman Director

April 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-vs-superman-wonder-woman-slideA couple of days ago Michelle MacLaren backed out of directing Wonder Woman and it looked like once more the quest to have a major superhero movie directed by a woman would fail. However Warner/DC have moved quickly to replace her with Monster helmer Patty Jenkins, according to THR.

It’s not Jenkins first involvement with superheroes as at one point she was set to direct Thor: The Dark World, but left after a disagreement over the direction of the movie. However now it looks like she may enter the comic book realm after all.

Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman, and we’ll first get to see her in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The standalone Wonder Woman movie will arrive June 23rd, 2017 and is expected to shoot later this year (hence why Warner wanted to replace MacLaren so quickly).

Jenkins may end up not being the only female director in the superhero universe, as rumours suggest Angelina Jolie is being considered for Marvel’s Captain Marvel.
