Anomalisa Trailer – Take a look at Charlie Kaufman’s award-winning animated movie

November 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

anomalisaCharlie Kaufman gained many fans as the writer of Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine, before turning director for Synecdoche New York. Now he’s returning to the director’s chair for a stop-motion animated movie, but one which seems just as steeped in his eccentric world.

The film recently won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival, and is billed as ‘a stop-motion comedy-drama starring David Thewlis, who plays an author and motivational speaker who falls in love with Jennifer Jason Leigh’s character Lisa — even though he can’t initially explain why.’

Anomalisa will be in US cinemas at the end of the year, with a March UK release set.

Elizabeth Banks & Paul Reubens Up For Frank Or Francis

January 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At the end of last week it was revealed that Charlie Kaufman’s second directorial outing, Frank Or Francis, had added Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener to its ranks. Now the cast has grown once more, with THR reporting that Elizabeth Banks has signed up for a role, while Variety adds that Peewee Herman himself, aka Paul Reubens, will be in the movie.

The film is about an online war that develops between a successful filmmaker (Steve Carell) and a movie blogger (Jack Black). Nicolas Cage is also onboard as The Emcee, an actor known for commercial successes such as Fat Dad, while Kevin Kline stars as the director’s brother.

Banks is set to play a well-regarded actress whose career is largely made up of formulaic comedy bombs, who has an affair with Carell’s character. Reubens meanwhile will be an old school film critic.

It isn’t certain when the movie will start filming.

Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener Join Frank or Francis

January 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Any film that involves Charlie Kaufman is worth keeping an eye out for. The screenwriter of Being John Malkovich and Adaptation is planning his second directorial outing (after Synecdoche New York), and now actresses Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener have signed on to star in Frank or Francis, according to Vulture.

The story centres around an online war that develops between a successful filmmaker (Steve Carell) and a movie blogger (Jack Black). Nicolas Cage is also onbaord as The Emcee, an actor known for commercial successes such as Fat Dad, while Kevin Kline stars as the director’s brother. Unfortunately no details are known about Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener’s characters.

Interestingly, both Kate Winslet and Catherine Keener were nominated for Academy Awards in movies Charlie Kaufman wrote. Kate Winslet was nominated for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Catherine Keener received a nod for Charlie Kaufman’s debut, Being John Malkovich.
