Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Trailer – Tom Cruise does go back because it’s a sequel

June 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reacher-never-go-back-slideAfter a few years of rather lacklustre Tom Cruise movies, Jack Reacher was a bit of a breath of fresh air – an action movie/thriller that helped remind us why the actor became such a big star in the first place. It’s not too surprising therefore that he’s returning to the character in Never Go Back, which has just released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jack Reacher: Never Go Back follows the title character as he returns to Virginia to meet the head of his former unit. But she’s missing, he’s being charged with a crime committed nearly 20 years ago, and he may even have a daughter. Making things right will lead him on a cross-country chase to uncover the truth – and maybe even a family.’

Ed Zwick directs the movie. It’ll be in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Teaser – Tom Cruise isn’t taking any crap once more

June 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reacher-never-go-back-slideWhile many disliked the idea of Tom Cruise being cast as Lee Child’s anti-hero, Jack Reacher, the movie itself turned out to be surprisingly good. It was successful enough that a sequel is on its way, which has just released its first teaser.

The film is based on Never Look Back, the latest of the Jack Reacher novels. It sees Jack return to his old military base in Virginia, where he is set to take the new female commanding officer out to dinner. However he discovers that she has been arrested, and Jack is also facing charges of assaulting a man and fathering a child. Reacher has no recollection of any of these things happening, which understandably starts him looking into what has been going on.

Cobie Smulders, Holt McCallany, Robert Knepper, Aldis Hodge. Take a look at the teaser from ET below. [Read more…]

May 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pawn-sacrifice-slidePawn Sacrifice has sure taken a long time to get here. Back in 2010 David Fincher toyed with helming the film, based on Steven Knight’s script, and then Ed Zwick signed up to direct Tobey Maguire in the movie way back in the summer of 2012.

It shot in 2013 premieres at TIFF at the end of last year, but it’s only now a trailer has arrived before the September US release.

Liev Schreiber & Peter Sarsgaard Join Pawn Sacrifice

September 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Liev-SchreiberIt’s been over a year since Edward Zwick signed up to direct Tobey Maguire in the Bobby Fischer biopic Pawn Sacrifice, but it’s only now that it’s moving forward with the news that Peter Sarsgaard and Liev Schreiber are in talks to star, according to THR.

The Cold War-era drama follows chess legend Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire), who became the youngest grand master in chess history. The main action of the film takes place in 1972 when, after an unprecedented winning streak, Fischer reached the world championship finals against the seemingly unbeatable Soviet master Boris Spassky (Schreiber). Peter Sarsgaard is playing a priest who becomes Fischer’s confidante during this period.

Steven Knight (Chef, Eastern Promises) wrote the screenplay. The project has been around for several year, as David Fincher flirted with directing March 2010. However it’s now due to go into production with Zwick helming next month.

Will Smith Attached To American Can & The Accountant

April 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-smithZwiWe’ve only had one new Will Smith movie in the last five years (Men In Black 3), but with the upcoming release of After Earth it seems he’s getting back in front of the camera properly, as just yesterday we reported he’s signed up to star in the drama Focus, and now Deadline reports he’s eyeing a couple of other movies too.

Smith is now attached to the drama American Can, which is currently hoping to get Ed Zwick to direct. The film is based on a true story and would see Smith as John Keller, a Gulf War veteran who, during Hurricane Katrina, helped gather 244 survivors in New Orleans’ American Can building, saving their lives in the process. Sony Pictures is backing the project, working from a script written by Adetoro Makinde and John Lee Hancock. At the moment it looks like it’s bee Smith next movie after Focus.

The actor may also star in The Accountant, a thriller that would have him play a a government accountant who doubles as an assassin. It’s the second time Smith has flirted with the movie, as he was previously looking into it when Mel Gibson was attached to direct.

Edward Zwick Takes A Pawn Sacrifice With Tobey Maguire

August 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Ed Zwick sometimes gets a bit of stick for his movies, he’s one of the few directors who’s consistently tried to take important stories to the mainstream, which films like Defiance and Blood Diamond. Now he has signed up to direct Pawn Sacrifice, with Tobey Maguire attached to star and produce.

The project is based on the true story of American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer’s famous world championship match against Russia’s Boris Spassky in 1972. Tobey Maguire will portray Bobby Fischer, with producers currently seeking an actor to play his Russian counterpart. And knowing Zwick, he’ll want to play up how important this became as a symbolic Cold War grudge match.

David Fincher was set to direct back in 2010 but he’s since moved on, with the project having been a bit stuck since then, even though the screenplay is well regarded. Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) wrote the screenplay. It isn’t known when they movie might shoot, but Edward Zwick is also attached to direct The Great Wall for Legendary Pictures, which may well come first. (Source: Deadline)

Benjamin Walker Climbs Ed Zwick’s The Great Wall

June 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benjamin Walker may become a breakout star in a few weeks, thanks to playing the title role in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He’s already booked a follow-up, as Variety reports that Walker has joined the cast of The Great Wall, alongside the previously cast Henry Cavill, for director Edward Zwick.

The film revolves around the mystery of why The Great Wall of China was built. Although the Great Wall was initially constructed over 2,000 years ago, when there were a distinct lack of white people in China for Cavill and Walker to play, the film will look at the Wall in the 15th Century, when the most famous, iconic stone parts of the Great Wall were erected. The movie sees a group of British warriors arrive in China just as the wall is being hurriedly reinforced and lengthened. It’s not just to keep the mongols out, as there’s something otherworldly the Chinese are trying to keep at bay, which emerges after nightfall.

Edward Zwick is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Marshall Herskovitz, based on an original idea by Legendary Pictures executive Thomas Tull and World War Z author Max Brooks. it isn’t known when it might shoot.

Henry Cavill Climbs Ed Zwick’s Great Wall

February 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Henry Cavill’s star is set to soar later this year when he stars as Superman in Man Of Steel. He’s already setting up his follow-up projects, with Variety reporting that he’s in talks to star in The Great Wall for director Edward Zwick.

News of the project first emerged last August, as it’s is the first project to be developed under Legendary Pictures’ new Legendary East banner, which hopes to make movies with global appeal but of special interest to Asian audiences. The story centres on how The Great Wall of China was first built and the mysterious circumstances which lead China to construct it. No character details were given for Henry Cavill’s role – and it’ll be interesting to see who he does play, as there weren’t that many white people in China thousands of years ago when the the First Emperor started construction on the wall.

Edward Zwick is directing The Great Wall from a script he is co-writing with Marshall Herskovitz. It isn’t known when production will begin on The Great Wall.
