Eli Roth May Direct A Horror Film Based On A David O. Russell Script

November 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eli-rothEli Roth and David O. Russell aren’t too people you’d immediately think would work together, as the creator of the likes of Hostel seems a long way from someone who’d make Silver Linings Playbook. However in a THR Roundtable, O. Russell has written a movie Roth may direct.

O. Russell says, “I wrote a couple of things that someone might make, Eli Roth may actually do one, I wrote a horror a few years ago.”

He adds, “Well it’ll be coupled with Eli Roth, that’s exciting to me. Cause I had to write to support myself. So I wrote a horror for producer Colleen Camp, a horror film that I thought was interesting. And Eli thinks its interesting, I think he’s going to make it more interesting. It’s emotional, it’s also… we’ll see. It’s also…I don’t wanna say anything more, I’ll let Eli talk about it.

He also has another script in the works, saying, “I also wrote a supernatural… sort of a time thing, that again is out of my genre. You would probably be better at it than me.”

Unfortunately there’s no more news on what either film will be, so we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Eli Roth Reveals Green Inferno Cast, With Shooting Starting Nov. 5th

October 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eli Roth hasn’t directed a movie since 2007’s Hostel: Part II (he’s produced quite a few films though), but now it’s been announced that principal photography is set to begin November 5th in Peru on his new movie, The Green Inferno.

The horror thriller’s cast has also been announced, which includes Lorenza Izzo (Aftershock), Ariel Levy (Aftershock), Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara (John Carter, Machete), Kirby Bliss Blanton (Project X), Magda Apanowicz and actress/singer Sky Ferreria. Roth is directing based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Aftershock co-writer, Guillermo Amoedo.

Filming will take place over the next few weeks in Peru before moving to Santiago, Chile. The movie follows a naive group of student activists who head from New York to stage a protest in the jungles of Peru, trying to tackles the evils of deforestation. Sadly for them, they don’t encounter pissed off loggers as much as they fall foul of cannibals (which sounds oddly like the episode of South Park where Kenny and co. go to the rainforest).

Ti West Takes On The Sacrament For Producer Eli Roth

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ti West has garnered a bit of a horror fanbase thanks to Cabin Fever 2, The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers (although West disowned Cabin Fever 2, due to the lack of control he had over it). Now he’s teaming up with the director of the original Cabin Fever, Eli Roth, for The Sacrament, according to Variety.

Roth will produce the movie with West down to direct. Unfortunately though, there’s no info on the plot or the cast, but the plan is to shoot it in Georgia later this year.

While West’s movies have found relatively small scale success, it seems this movie is being geared for a bigger audience, with Roth saying, ‘We want to make this Ti’s first mainstream movie, without sacrificing the quality and unflinching horror of the subject matter.’

Eli Roth May Take On Russell Crowe Dracula Tale Harker

July 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eli Roth hasn’t made a movie since Hostel II, and while he’s developed a lot of projects, nothing has actually come to fruition, other than films he’s written or produced. Now he may have found a new movie, and unusually for Roth, it’s a film that he hasn’t originated himself. Deadline reports that he’s in talks to direct the Dracula based movie Harker, which already has Russell Crowe attached to star.

Crowe and Roth have a bit of history, as Russell stars in the upcoming The Man With The Iron Fists, which Eli co-wrote. The Aussie actor is attached to play Dracula in the movie, which reimagines Jonathan Harker as a Scotland Yard detective. The idea is apparently that Harker will track Dracula in the movie, but the set-up could potentially allow him to go after other terrifying figures in sequels.

It”s still fairly early days though, as Roth is busy working with Crowe on the story, and once that’s sorted out they’ll move forward. The plan is to shoot the movie sometime next year.

Eli Roth Directing The Green Inferno

May 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We haven’t had a film from Eli Roth since Hostel: Part II in 2007 (unless you count Inglourious Basterds’ film with a film, Nation’s Pride), but now he’s ready to get back behind the camera with the horror movie The Green Inferno.

Details on the storyline are being held under wraps, but here’s here’s what the director had to say about the project, “I’ve had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director’s chair. I’ve been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in Chile and cannot wait to get back. Worldview backs my vision and believes in me, and is giving me the support I need and the freedom to take risks and make something daring and terrifying. I believe this will be the scariest and most intense film I have made to date. I want to audiences worldwide to feel my return to directing was worth the wait.”

Production will begin in the autumn in Peru and Chile
