New Hotel Transylvania 3 Trailer – Adam Sandler’s vampire family are going on vacation

March 21, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Quite often when filmmakers don’t know what to do with a sequel, they send the characters of vacation. Unfortunately that’s accompanied by a lack of ideas in the finished movie and a sense of desperation. Hopefully though, that won’t be the case with Hotel Transylvania 3.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: A Monster Vacation, join our favorite monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans. But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.’

Hotel Transylvania 3 is due out in July. Take a look at the new trailer below.  [Read more…]

Hotel Transylvania 2 (DVD Review)

February 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Mel Brooks, Selena Gomez, Kevin James
Director: Genndy Tartakovsky
Running Time: 89 mins
Certificate: U
Release Date: February 15th 2016 (UK)

Hotel Transylvania was a far bigger success than many people expected. Indeed, even Sony Pictures appeared to be taken by surprise, but it didn’t take them long to decide a sequel was needed. That follow-up quickly takes us through the next few years of the story, which sees monsters and humans starting to get along better across the world.

Dracula’s daughter Mavis marries slacker boyfriend Jonathan and they have a child, Dennis. As Dennis is only half-vampire, it’s not clear whether he will end up being a monster or not, but Dracula is determined that before he’s five, his grandson will spout fangs, as he knows that otherwise he will remain human forever. Mavis meanwhile feels that if Dennis is indeed more human than monster, perhaps it would be better if they went to live in the ‘normal’ world. [Read more…]

First Look At Genndy Tartakovsky’s CGI Popeye Movie

September 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

popeye-animation-testIt’s not too surprising that Sony decided it would be a good idea to make a 3D CG Popeye movie, but how the character would look was another question. Now we get to take a look with a featurette that ends with a look at Genndy Tartakovsky’s Animation Test for the movie.

There are a few changes from the classic cartoons, not least that Popeye has been scrubbed up with his tattoos removed and his ever-present pipe has been taken away too.

We still have to wait a while for the final movie though, as it’s not due out until 2016.

Genndy Tartakovsky made his name working on programmes like Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: Clone Wars, and made his feature debut with Hotel Transylvania. [Read more…]

Genndy Tartakovsky Directing 3D Animated Popeye

June 26, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Genndy Tartakovsky, who makes his feature directorial debut with Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania later this year, is attached to direct a 3D animated take on the classic character Popeye for the studio, according to Variety.

Last November, Jay Scherick and David Ronn (The Smurfs, Zookeeper) signed up to write the screenplay. There are absolutely no story details available, although it’s safe to presume there’ll be some spinach involved, although it will be released in 3D.

Popeye was created in 1929 by Elzie Crisler Segar, and first appeared in the Thimble Theater comic strip. The character has been showcased in a number of animated shorts, the 1960 TV series Popeye, and director Robert Altman’s 1980 live-action Popeye that starred Robin Williams.
