Jake Gyllenhaal Will Be One Of The Sister Brothers, Opposite Joaquin Phoenix

February 11, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jacques Audiard won the Palm d’Or at Canned for his last movie, Dheepan, about a former Sri Lankan freedom fighter finding life difficult as an asylum seeker in France. However, he’s planning something rather different for his next film, the noir western, The Sister Brothers.

The movie is set to star Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly, and Variety reports that it’s just added Jake Gyllenhaal to its cast. The film, based on Patrick deWitt’s award-winning novel, ‘follows two brothers – Eli and Charlie Sisters – who are hired to kill a prospector who has stolen from their boss. The story takes place in Oregon in 1851.’ However, things don’t turn out quite as expected, especially as the man they’re supposed to kill seems so nice, and may be able to help the Sisters get rich.

The film is due to start shooting this summer. That will be after Gyllenhaal has completed his Broadway musical debut run in a revival of Sunday in the Park With George, which opens shortly.

Rust And Bone (Blu-ray)

February 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Marion Cotillard, Matthias Schoenaerts, Armand Verdure, Celine Sallette
Director: Jacques Audiard
Running Time: 120 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 25th 2013

When Rust And Bone premiered at Cannes, the very first reviews suggested this wouldn’t just be the movie to beat at the Film Festival, but would also be in with a chance at the Oscars. However it quickly lost momentum, losing out at Cannes and not even getting a Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the Academy Awards.  The reason it hasn’t done as well as those ecstatic early reviews suggested is that it’s a bit of an audience divider, with some feeling it’s an emotionally involving masterpiece while others can’t quite get past the implausibility of its melodrama. Rust & Bone UK Trailer – Marion Cotillard teams up with the director of A Prophet

September 5, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rust & Bone got a lot of praise at Cannes, which perhaps isn’t too unexpected seeing as it teams up the wonderful Marion Cotillard with director Jacques Audiard, who astounded world cinema audiences with A Prophet and The Beat That My Heart Skipped. The movie is about two people from very different worlds seeking redemption in each other. Marion Cotillard plays Stephanie, a killer whale trainer who late one night meets Alain (Matthias Schoenaerts) in a fracas at the nightclub where he works as a bouncer. Put in charge of his young son, Alain has come from Belgium to Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alain’s bond with Stephanie grows deeper after she suffers a horrible accident, bringing the two together once more. Rust and Bone is released in cinemas on 2nd November 2012.
