Carrie Trailer – Chloe Moretz takes on the iconic Stephen King character

April 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although there are still some people who don’t think Hollywood should have remade Carrie, feeling Brian De Palma’s 1976 film was already the definitive statement on Stephen King’s debut novel. However this trailer suggests the do-over could well be worth a look.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Julianne Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Chloe Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.’

The film will hit cinemas in October.

New Carrie Poster Online – Meet Julianne Moore’s Margaret White

January 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

carrie-teaser-poster2
It’s still a few months until the remake of Carrie hits cinemas in November, due to the fact it’s been put back from its originally planned Spring release. However to keep us interested, Sony has released a new poster via Latino Review, which shows us Julianne Moore’s Margaret White.

If you know Stephen King’s novel or the 1976 film version, you’ll know that Margaret isn’t not exactly the nicest of people. She is Carrie’s (Chloe Moretz) mother and a bit of a religious zealot monster who believes her daughter’s newfound powers are evil and just about everything she does goes against God.

Carrie’s homelife is as bad as school, where the quiet young girl is laughed at and bullied – something that comes to a head when the popular people play a prank on her at the prom. Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell and Michelle Nolden also star.

Kimberley Peirce Remaking With a Friend Like Harry

July 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There have been big gaps in Kimberley Peirce CV, with her first film, Boys Don’t Cry coming in 1999, then nothing until Stop Loss in 2008 and we’ll getting her latest movie, a remake of Carrie, next year. She’s hoping there won’t be as big a gap until her follow-up, as she’s already signed up for a remake of the French thriller With a Friend Like Harry.

The original starred Laurent Lucas and Mathilde Seigner as Michel and Claire. The couple goes on vacation with their children and unintentionally meet up with Harry, an old classmate Michel doesn’t remember.

The plot thickens when Harry’s behaviour takes a turn for the worse. Dominik Moll directed the original film, which was nominated for the prestigious Palm D’Or at the Cannes Film Festival back in 2000. (Source: Variety)

Julianne Moore In Talks For Carrie Remake

April 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It may be called Carrie, but the juiciest role in both Stephen King’s book and the 1976 book is the lead character’s mother – indeed it gave Piper Laurie a rare horror movie acting Oscar nomination. Now MGM’s planned remake may have found its harridan of a mom in the form of Julianne Moore, according to Bloody Disgusting.

Chloe Moretz is set to star as the title character, a troubled teenage girl who uses her telekinetic abilities to get revenge on the classmates who tormented her. Moore will play Carrie’s deranged mother, who is more terrifying and damaging to her daughter the the school bullies.

Kimberly Peirce (Boy Don’t Cry) is directing from a screenplay by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The plan is to start shooting as soon as possible in order to hit the March 15, 2013 release date MGM has already set for it.

Chloe Moretz Or Haley Bennett May Be Carrie

March 24, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

MGM is busy mining its back catalogue for properties to remake and one it’s keen on giving a do-over is Stephen King’s Carrie, with Boys Don’t Cry helmer Kimberly Peirce attached to direct. Now the director and studio are closing in on a young actress for the lead role, with Vulture reporting that Chloe Moretz and Haley Bennett (who’s little known now but will be seen alongside Ryan Gosling in Terrence Malick’s Lawless) are the top contenders.

It is rather odd that the top candidates for a role like this are so far apart in age, as Chloe Moretz is 15-years-old and Haley Bennett is 24. Other actresses such as Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning, Bella Heathcote and Lily Collins have read for Carrie, while The Descendants star Shailene Woodley was reportedly offered the title role outright, but she passed. It now appears it’s down to Moretz and Bennett though.

Kimberly Peirce has also shown interest in Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore to play Carrie’s crazed mother, although it doesn’t seem any offers have been made yet. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the script, which will reportedly stay more faithful to author Stephen King’s original novel. It isn’t known when production may begin on Carrie, but it’s a bit of a priority for MGM.
