Director Miguel Arteta Takes On Alexander & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

March 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

miguel-artetaA movie version of the classic children’s book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day has been in the works for quite a while, with Steve Carell attached to star. Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) was set to direct back in October, but after Fox dropped the project and Disney picked it up, she decided to step aside.

Now Deadline reports that Miguel Arteta (Cedar Rapids) is in talks to take her place behind the camera.

The book focuses on Alexander, a young boy who wakes up with gum in his hair, and as the title suggest, his day gets progressively worse and worse. Steve Carell is set to play Alexander’s father.

The plan at the moment is to start shooting sometime this fall.

Steve Carrell In Talks For Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

April 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Steve Carell wants to add another film to his already bust roster, as Deadline reports that he’s is in talks for the upcoming live action adaptation of Judith Viorst’s popular children’s novel, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

20th Century Fox is behind the family film, which will be the first live action take on the story after a couple of animated versions. Lisa Cholodenko, best known for The Kids Are All Right, will write and direct.

Steve Carell will play the role of Ben in this story about a young boy who endures a frustrating day that begins with him waking up to find gum in his hair and ends with him threatening to move to Australia. He just can’t seem to get anything right, with his teacher moaning about his picture of an invisible castle (actually just a blank sheet of paper) and getting into trouble for punching his brother, who calls him a crybaby after he gets pushed in the mud.

It’s not certain exactly who Ben is, as the story is naturally having to be expanded missaviely from the picture heavy children’s tale. It’s not certain when the movie will shoot, but hopefully they’ve already staked out a spot in Carell’s hectic schedule.

The Kids Are All Right (Blu-ray)

October 31, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Mia Wasikowska, Josh Hutcherson
Director: Lisa Cholodenko
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: 21st March, 2010

What a confusing movie The Kids Are All Right is. Kids with two mothers? What craziness! Whoever heard of such as thing! And it has two women living in the same house, both of whom have fathered a child by the same sperm donor! Nuttiness.

At one point, when Julianne Moore was under the bed covers between Annette Bening’s legs, I even thought they were trying to suggest these two mothers were having some sort of sexual relationship, but then I heard a strange buzzing sound coming from down there and realised Moore must have just lost her cell phone or something.
