Disney has a lot of money riding on Maleficent, so they’ll be hoping it’ll follow in the footsteps of their fairy tale film Frozen, rather than their live action reinventions Lone Ranger and John Carter. To help get us interested they’ve now released a ‘This Is Maleficent’ featurette, which sees Angelina Jolie discussing her character.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land.

‘Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

Angelina Jolie can do many things, but up until now she couldn’t fly. Maleficent is going to change all that, as shown by the new banner above, which unfurls the title characters wings, while the teaser below allows her to take flight.

Let’s just hope the movie itself is a cool as all the imagery.

A week or so ago we had a trailer for Maleficent which compared Disney’s new live action movie to the one that inspired it, Sleeping Beauty. However now we get a new one, which may give us a better feel for what the movie will actually be like, as it features rather haunting music by Lana Del Rey, taking on her version of the classic Once Upon A Dream.

We also get plenty of new footage, suggesting a movie that’s more Lord Of The Rings than fairy tale.
