Blade Runner 2049’s Mackenzie Davis To Star In New Terminator Movie

March 8, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The various efforts to get people interested in a post-T2 Terminator franchise have largely foundered, but there’s been more interest in a new attempt, which will bring James Cameron back as a producer/creative force, as well as original stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton. Now they have some company in the form of Blade Runner 2049 star Mackenzie Davis, according to Variety.

There’s little info on the plot of the new instalment, bit it’s said that Davis will be ‘a solder-assassin on a mission.’ She will apparently be human rather than android though (unlike her role in Blade Runner 2049). One other thing we know about the movie is that it’s likely to either ignore everything after Terminator 2, or reset the timeline so it can do just that. There are also conflicting reports about whether Davis will be the new ‘face’ of the Terminator franchise, or whether someone else will be the lead, but it does appear she plays a central role in the movie.

The Hunger Games and Captain Phillips scribe Billy Ray is writing the latest version of the script, with Deadpool’s Tim Miller set to direct. The movie is due for release July 2019.

Linda Hamilton Will Be Back As Sarah Connor In A New Terminator Movie

September 20, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s been a long time since Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor. She stepped away from the franchise after Terminator 2 back in 1991. However, now that James Cameron is returning to produce what he hopes will be a new trilogy, Hamilton has decided she’d be happy to return to the role too.

Arnie is also attached to the new films, with Tim Miller (Deadpool), set to direct.

THR first reported on the news of Hamilton’s return, reporting Cameron as saying, “As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then [when T2 was made], it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return… There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”

At the moment there’s no info on the plot or how the original Sarah Connor will fit into it. Indeed, it appears that they’re currently still piecing the overarching storyline of the trilogy together, but now know they can include Hamilton within those plans. There is one nugget Cameron has released about the movies, saying “We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters, but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it.”

Deadpool Helmer Tim Miller Plans To Take On William Gibson’s Neuromancer

August 10, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Neuromancer is probably William Gibson’s most famous and celebrated novel. However, despite various attempts over the years it’s never been brought to the big screen (indeed Gibson’s idiosyncratic style means few of his stories have).

Now though, Deadpool director Tim Miller has stepped forward to try and make Neuromancer movie, according to THR. Gibson’s 1984 debut novel, ‘centers on Henry Dorsett Case, a disgraced computer hacker living in Japan who was punished for stealing from his employer by being rendered unable to access The Matrix, a worldwide virtual reality network. But he’s given a shot at getting back in the saddle when he is hired to complete the ultimate hack: one on an artificial intelligence orbiting Earth.’

Miller has already got various other movies in development since he left the Deadpool sequel over creative difference last October. It seems the Neuromance movie is in the early stages, as no writer has yet been hired. So don’t expect to see it for at least another couple of years.

James Cameron Bringing In Deadpool Director Tim Miller For New Terminator Movie

January 22, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After Terminator 2, the franchise has struggled. The rights have been passed around, with each new owner hoping they could bring it back to life, but each coming up with a film that audiences met with a shrug. What many thought was missing was James Cameron.

However,Cameron will be getting the rights back to many parts of the franchise in 2019, and it looks like he’s planning to get a new Terminator movie made when he does. He’s teaming up with David Ellison’s Skydance Productions, which currently owns the rights (and will retain rights to aspects of Terminator created after the first movie) to create something which is currently being described as a conclusion for the franchise. Unsurprisingly, as he’s got four Avatar sequels to make, he won’t be directing the film, with Deadline reporting that he’s hoping to bring in Deadpool helmer Tim Miller to direct it.

Cameron will be involved though, acting in a ‘godfather’ capacity, to help ensure that the story, script and production stay on track. There is no news though on what the film will be, or whether Arnold Schwarzenegger will be involved in any way.

Cameron has previously been involved in books and comics that followed the T2 continuity, ignoring the movies that followed, so it’s possible this film will do the same. Indeed, with its time travel premise, the continuity of the series has got so convoluted, it wouldn’t be difficult to find a way to wipe out everything post T2 (which Genisys sort of did anyway).

At the moment the film is several years away, so currently the possibilities for it are wide open.

Deadpool Super Bowl Spot – The Merc With A Mouth doesn’t have much time for football

February 8, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Deadpool-International-One-Sheet-slideAs you might expect, Deadpool isn’t going to let the Super Bowl go by without a quip and a snide comment – although one that it has to be said that feels like it was carefully picked not to be too offensive. With the movie due out this week, the Big Game was the perfect opportunity to showcase the X-Men character’s unique brand of superhero-antics.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.’

The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein. It’ll be in cinemas in February, but enjoy the trailer below.

New Deadpool Trailer – Ryan Reynolds wants us to know it’s a different type of superhero movie

December 25, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

deadpool-christmas-posterI’m sure that when you opened your presents this morning, there was a nagging sadeness in your soul, wishing that someone had given you a trailer for a movie about a wise-cracking sort-of-superhero, who’s taking the X-Men franchise in a rather different direction. Well, don’t worry, because now we’ve got one for you!

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Will Be Pansexual, We’re Promised

November 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

deadpool-pic1-slideEarly next year Fox is going in a slightly different direction with the X-Men franchise, by giving the wise-cracking Deadpool his own movie. During the years it’s been in development many have worried whether the movie would retain the violence, sarcasm and wit of the comics, as well as having Deadpool breaking the fourth wall.

While actor Ryan Reynolds has promised it will still as closely to the tone of the page as possible (which has been borne out by the trailer), one thing that wasn’t clear was how they would deal with Deadpool’s sexuality.

The character’s fluid sexuality has been something that the comic’s writers have been keen on, such as co-creator Fabian Nicieza previously saying, “Deadpool is whatever sexual inclination his brain tells him he is in THAT moment. And then the moment passes. Not trying to be dismissive, but readers always want to ‘make a character their own’ and often that is to the exclusion of what the character might mean to other fans. I’ve been dogged with the DP sexuality questions for YEARS. It is a bit tiring. He is NO sex and ALL sexes. He is yours and everyone else’s. So not dismissive, but rather the epitome of inclusive.”

Now those involved with the film have weighed on what the big screen take will be, with director Tim Miller telling Collider, “Pansexual! I want that quoted. Pansexual Deadpool.”

Ryan Reynolds meanwhile adds, “There is some sexuality in this movie for sure. You kinda think you have moments when you’re shooting where you think, ‘This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic book movie. Are we gonna get away with this?’ But so far so good.”

Hopefully this will be something that comes through on the screen and isn’t just one of those things that the filmmakers say is true, but there’s little evidence on the screen. We’ll be able to tell when the movie is released early next year.

Deadpool Trailer – The Merc With A Mouth is here and he’s Red Band

August 5, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Deadpool-logo-posterOver the years a Deadpool movie was in the works many fans were worried that the notoriously sarcastic, rude and violent character would get toned down and made family friendly, much as he was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

However the first trailer is very keen to show while Deadpool may have come from the X-Men universe, this is going to be an R-rated movie with plenty of blood, bad language and humour – complete with the character’s trademark breaking of the fourth wall.

Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. Starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Gina Carano, T.J. Deadpool Teaser – Ryan Reynolds’ merc with a mouth has a message for us

August 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

deadpool-pic1-slideThe trailer for Deadpool should arrive tomorrow, but ahead of that he’s got a message for us, which seems designed to show that this will be a far more irreverent, sarcastic superhero movie, that sticks far closer to the tone of the character in the comics than how he was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds Gets Inspired By Burt Reynolds In The First Official Deadpool Pic

March 27, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

deadpool-pic1It’s a year until Deadpool hits cinemas, but to prove that after years of Ryan Reynolds saying it was still going to happen, that this time it really will, the first pic of the actor in his costume for the movie has been released, which you can take a look at above.

We’ve also got a brief synopsis: ‘Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.’

If the image seems oddly familiar to you it’s because it was inspired by Burt Reynolds infamous nude Playgirl spread, which saw him similar posed on a bearskin, but with fewer clothes.

The movie hits UK cinemas February 2016.
