Submergence Trailer – James McAvoy & Alicia Vikander star in Wim Wenders’ latest

January 31, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Submergence is a love story that takes us into the extremely different worlds of our two protagonists, Danielle Flinders (Alicia Vikander) and James More (James McAvoy). They meet by chance in a remote hotel in Normandy where they both prepare for a dangerous mission. They fall in love almost against their will, but soon recognize in each other the love of their lives. When they have to separate, we find out that James works for the British Secret Service.

‘He’s involved in a mission in Somalia to track down a source for suicide bombers infiltrating Europe. Danielle ‘Danny’ Flinders is a bio-mathematician working on a deep sea diving project to support her theory about the origin of life on our planet. Soon, they are worlds apart. James is taken hostage by Jihadist fighters and has no way of contacting Danny, and she has to go down to the bottom of the ocean in her submersible, not even knowing if James is still alive…’

Submergence is due in UK cinemas on May 18th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

James McAvoy Up For Wim Wenders’ Submergence

November 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

James-McAvoyJames McAvoy is currently on set for X-Men: Apocalypse reshoots (which apparently will bring Wolverine into the movie), but just before that film’s release next summer, he’s planning to make something a little different.

Variety reports he’ll star in Submergence for director Wim Wenders, based on J.M. Ledgard’s 2011 novel of the same name. While billed as a romantic thriller, it should certainly allow McAvoy to show off his acting skills.

Submergence ‘centers on two lovers, immersed in life or death situations and separated by thousands of miles, who find solace in memories of their intense romance the previous Christmas after a chance encounter on a beach on the Atlantic coast. One [McAvoy] is enduring captivity by jihadist fighters in Somalia while the other is exploring the greatest depths of the ocean floor from her submersible.’

It’ll shoot next March.

Rachel McAdams Joins James Franco In Every Thing Will Be Fine

August 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rachel-mcadamsThe cast of Wim Wenders’ Every Thing Will Be Fine has grown with James Franco being joined by Rachel McAdams, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Robert Naylor, according to THR.

Franco is set to play a grief-stricken man who is responsible for the accidental death of a young boy. He uses his guilt to launch a successful writing career, although as he becomes more and more famous, he ‘represses and rejects the emotional connection he has to the boy’s brother and mother in the years after the accident’.

Rachel McAdams is playing the writer’s girlfriend, who is trying to deal with his crumbling mental state. Charlotte Gainsbourg plays the boy’s mother, with Robert Naylor portraying his brother, who reaches out to the author 10 years after the accident.

Wim Wenders is directing from a screenplay by Bjorn Olaf Johannessen, with shooting already under way in Montreal.

James Franco Joins Director Wim Wenders’ Every Thing Will Be Fine

May 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-francoJames Franco has signed up to star in Wim Wenders’ new movie, Every Thing Will Be Fine, which will start shooting in Montreal from August 15 and continue then in January 2014, according to Variety.

Scripted by Norwegian writer Bjørn Olaf Johannessen, Franco will play Tomas, a writer, who accidentally causes the death of a child. The story follows Tomas through the next twelve years, searching for the footprints of the accident on his life, as well as on the life of Kate, the child’s mother.

Although it doesn’t sound like the sort of movie that’s usually shot in 3D, Wenders became a fan of the format following the $30 million Oscar-nominated success of his ballet movie/documentary Pina, and so will add the extra dimension to Every Thing Will Be Fine. The film will be shot in 3D.

Wenders says, “Every Thing Will Be Fine is a family drama, unravelling over the course of 12 years. A story of guilt and forgiveness, and of accepting things you cannot change anymore. We wrote it with 3D in mind, and I’m convinced that the medium lends itself really well to an intimate story.”
