21 Jump Street Sequel Confirmed For 2014, And Look Out For Croods 2 As Well

April 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since 21 Jump Street hit it big at cinemas at the beginning of last year, Sony has been keen to make a sequel, very quickly getting a screenplay commissioned from writers Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall. Now the studio has confirmed that they’re hoping to get the movie in cinemas during summer 2014 (an earlier plan to shoot in late 2012 for a 2013 release didn’t work out).

21-Jump-Street-PosterThe announcement was made at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, although unfortunately there are no more details than that. While it’s fairly certain Jonah Hill will return, there’s no confirmation of Channing Tatum’s involvement, although hopefully he’ll be back too. It may be difficult for directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to come back, as they’ve got their hands full with the planned Lego movie, but they may be able to work around that.

21 Jump Street isn’t the only sequel that’s been confirmed, as the LA Times reports that DreamWorks Animation is planning a follow-up to The Croods, with writing/directing team Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders set to return.

There are no more details than that, but it’s good news for the company. It had to lay off staff following the failure of Rise Of The Guardians, but has bounced back with The Croods, which has already grossed $386 million around the world.
