Ant-Man May Well Be Joseph Gordon-Levitt Or Paul Rudd

October 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

paul-ruddIt seems that with Guardians Of The Galaxy recently wrapped and Thor: The Dark World in cinemas in a couple of weeks, Marvel is now concentrating on who will play the title role in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. Now Variety is saying the insiders claim that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are currently the top two candidates and one is likely to land the part.

No offers have been made yet, and there’s still a chance another actor could swoop in and take the coveted role. That said, both Rudd and Gordon-Levitt are expected to meet with Marvel executives and director Edgar Wright again before a final decision is made, and current indications suggest it’s a toss-up between them.

Ant-Man follows Dr. Hank Pym, who invents a substance that allows him to be shrunk down to an ant’s size. Edgar Wright is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The film’s due out summer 2015.

Has Edgar Wright Tweeted The First Ant-Man Set Photo?

October 2, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

‘Now I’m back in LA, it’s high time to finish a little something I’ve been working on…’

That’s the Tweet and image Edgar Wright recently sent, and in his often enigmatic way, he’s now left the blogosphere to go mental about what he means.

The immediate assumption has been that this is from the set of Ant-Man, although with no cast announced and a release date that’s almost two years away, it seems a little early for this to be from the actual shoot. However Wright could well in LA to start working full-time on pre-production, and this could be either from test footage or possibly some sort of teaser that’ll be attached to one of the Marvel movies that comes before Ant-man.

At the moment it’s all speculation, and it could turn out it something else Wright has been working on!

Edgar Wright is directing Ant-Man from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). No story details have been confirmed, but the director revealed in February that this will take a different approach to Dr. Hank Pym’s origin than was in the comics – although it will still presumably follow the doctor gaining the ability to shrink to minuscule size. It’s due out July 31st, 2015.

Ant-Man Now Coming Summer 2015, Just A Couple Of Months After Avengers 2

September 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ant-man-comic-con-logoMarvel has decided that Summer is the best time for new superheroes, as they’ve announced that the first Phase Three movie, Ant-Man, has move from a November 6th, 2015 release to July 31st, 2015. This means it will hit cinemas just a couple of months after The Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives on May 1st, 2015.

As of now, Ant-Man’s only box office competitor on that date is Fox’s adaptation Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, directed by Tim Burton. There are no specific plot details known about Ant-Man, although it will presumably cover the origin of Hank Pym’s transformation into the title character, so can change from normal size to tiny.

Edgar Wright is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block). He’s promised a different kind of Marvel movie, and while he’s said it will standalone, the move in release date will have many wondering if it’s more closely tied to Avengers 2 than it’s so far been revealed.

Ant-Man & Doctor Strange Movies Confirmed For Marvel Phase III

January 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

doctor-strange-dvd-coverPhase I of Marvel’s integrated universe concluded last summer with The Avengers. Now we’re into Phase II, which kicks off with Iron Man 3 and will take us through Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and finally The Avengers 2 in 2015.

You might think that’d be enough for Marvel to have on its plate, but plans for Phase III are already in motion, with President of Production at Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, confirming that two long rumoured movies are part of those plans – Ant-Man and Doctor Strange.

He told MTV News, “Ant-Man is definitely part of Phase Three. Like Iron Man 3, it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of (director) Edgar Wright – which is the only reason we’re making the movie. I’ve known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with Ant-Man – we weren’t even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It’s very much an Ant-Man origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we’ve seen before.” Ant-Man is likely to reach cinemas on November 6, 2015 release date.

When asked which other characters are being developed for Phase III, Kevin Feige confirmed that Doctor Strange is one of them, saying, “Doctor Strange, which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like Guardians of the Galaxy. He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is Ant-Man, which keeps us excited.”

We can also expect some changed in the Phase I characters as they movie through Phase II. “So much of the stories we’re telling [right now] is about the core ‘Avengers’ characters we’ve now met,” he says, “And they’ll be evolving in big, surprising ways, in Cap’s next movie and Thor’s next movie and of course in Iron Man 3, as we get them all into the next Avengers film. Beyond that, Ant-Man is the only one officially announced, but you probably don’t have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we’re toying with and beginning to develop.”

Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man Coming November 2015

October 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At San Diego Comic Con a few months ago, Marvel confirmed that Edgar Wright’s long rumoured Ant Man film was definitely coming, although we didn’t know when. Now Disney/Marvel has let us know, setting a November 6, 2015 release date for Ant Man. Edgar Wright is directing, although no cast members have been announced at this time.

That puts the movie a few months after the May 1st, 2012 release of The Avengers 2, which suggests Ant Man could also appear in some form in that movie, before he gets a stand alone adventure. The studio also revealed that Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World will both be released in 3D, which isn’t too much of a surprise. Iron Man 3’s May 3rd, 2013 and Thor: The Dark World’s November 8th, 2013 release dates remain unchanged. Phineas and Ferb has been pushed off of its July 28, 2013 release date to an undetermined 2014 date.

While they were making announcements about release dated, Disney has also handed out a November 7th, 2014 release date for an unspecified Disney Animation project, and a November 25th, 2015 date for an untitled Pixar project that may be rumoured movie about Día de Los Muertos.

Ant-Man Movie Is Confirmed & The Test Footage Gets Screened

July 15, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The long-gestating Ant-Man movie seemed to have been confirmed a few weeks ago when it was revealed director Edgar Wright had completed some test footage for the film. Now that teaser has screened at Comic-Con to a largely positive reaction, and Marvel has revealed the title treatment for the movie. There’s no news on when it might be released, although with Iron Man 2, Thor 2, Captain America 2 and Guardians Of The Galaxy already dated, Ant Man isn’t likely to arrive until the end of 2014 at the earliest (and Wright is making The World’s End first).

The footage isn’t online yet (and as it’s a rough proof of concept deal, it may not show up at all), but here’s a description for /Film: ‘The footage begins in a long, Matrix style hallway with two Matrix style agents. The camera moves down the hall, through a grate, and we see a tiny man standing behind the grate: Ant-Man. He jumps through and starts running at them. Of course, they don’t see him. He then pops up into real size, they start shooting, he gets small again, jumps, runs down the shaft of the gun, jumps up and punches the guy in the face, shaking the face in slow motion. With that guy done, Ant-Man gets big again, flips the other agent over….okay, honestly by this point I was kind of freaking out and it gets fuzzy. I do know that Ant-Man takes care of business, is about to jump through another grate when the elevator pings, and he gets on it.’

The tone is said to be different to other Marvel films, with the accent more on humour. That’s not surprising considering Wright co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish. It certainly sounds interesting and the character could certainly make for a fun, if slightly silly, film.
