Aquaman Extended Trailer – Jason Momoa goes to war under the seas against Patrick Wilson

October 7, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After watching the Aquaman extended trailer it’s difficult to tell whether this is going to be ridiculously cool, or quite possibly the stupidest mega-budget movie ever made. Indeed, the fact they bothered to release a five-minute look at the movie is evidence that Warner Bros. knows a lot of people are uncertain about the film.

At the moment though, there’s still plenty of hope for the former, not least ebcause director James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring, Insidious, Fast & Furious 7) has an impressive track record of making films that are far more entertaining that you might expect.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.

‘The film also stars Amber Heard (“Justice League,” “Magic Mike XXL”) as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Platoon,” “Spider-Man 2”) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson (“The Conjuring” films, “Watchmen”) as Orm/Ocean Master, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables” films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Netflix’s “The Get Down”) as the vengeful Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Lion”) as Arthur’s mom, Atlanna; as well as Ludi Lin (“Power Rangers”) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando; and Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,” “Green Lantern”) as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.

‘AQUAMAN will release in UK cinemas on December 14.’ [Read more…]

Jason Momoa Is Looking Super-Buff In The First Aquaman Poster

July 17, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Justice League may not have been the greatest introduction to Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, but hopefully when his solo film arrives, it’ll be more Wonder Woman than Batman vs Superman. The first poster for the movie has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

We’ve been promised the first trailer this weekend, to coincide with the film’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con. It’ll be interested to see what it looks like (hopefully less cartoony than Justice League’s underwater world).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed by James Wan (“The Conjuring” films, “Furious 7”) and starring Jason Momoa in the title role, AQUAMAN also stars Amber Heard (“Justice League,” “Magic Mike XXL”) as Mera; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (“Platoon,” “Spider-Man 2”) as Vulko; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones,” “Green Lantern”) as Tom Curry; Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables” films) as Nereus; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (upcoming “Baywatch,” Netflix’s “The Get Down”) as Black Manta; with Patrick Wilson (“The Conjuring” films, “Watchmen”) as Orm/Ocean Master; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Hours,” “Lion”) as Atlanna.’

The film will arrive in cinemas in December. The poster is below, along with a close-up of Jason Momoa to swoon over. [Read more…]

Nicole Kidman & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Are Up For Aquaman

February 1, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Warner/DC universe has been having a few difficulties, with The Flash losing its director and getting a total rewrite, Ben Affleck deciding not to helm The Batman (and some saying he’d like to stop being the Caped Crusader entirely), and rumours that Wonder Woman is a mess. However, with Justice League set for November 2017 and Aquaman heading into theatres just under a year later (The Flash is supposed to come between them, but its release date is currently up in the air), it’s full-steam-ahead on the film about Jason Momoa’s watery superhero.

The cast has just grown, with THR reporting that Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are both in talks to join Aquaman. Nothing’s been signed yet, but Abdul-Mateen (The Get Down) is being eyed to play the villainous Black Manta. Kidman meanwhile would be Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna.

There have been various versions and backstories for Black Manta, but usually he originated on the land, before ending up with enhanced powers and a suit of armour that makes him almost invulnerable, and also allows him to be as comfortable in the oceans as he is on land. He has long been Aquaman’s arch-enemy. Atlanna meanwhile is a Queen/Princess of Atlanta, who fell for a human and got pregnant with the child who would later become Aquaman.

The movie is due to start shooting in Australia in April, with James Wan directing. Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe and Patrick Wilson will also star.

Patrick Wilson Will Be An Aquaman Villain

December 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Patrick WilsonAquaman has found itself a villain, and it’s someone not unfamiliar with the world of DC characters. Patrick Wilson previously Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl in Zack Snyder’s 2009 adaptation of Watchmen. Now, with Snyder helping oversee the creation of the DC movie universe (having helmed Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman), Wilson has joined Aquaman.

Director James Wan announced the news on Twitter, saying, ‘In casting news that no one saw coming from 20,000 nautical miles away, I ordain @patrickwilson73 the Ocean Master. #KingOrm #Aquaman’.

Orm is Aquaman’s half-brother, although at the moment it’s difficult to know what direction the film will take him. There have been various takes on the characters, some with powers and some without, but all with a dislike/jealousy of Aquaman. Therefore it’s likely Wilson will be one of the movie’s primary villains (previous rumours suggested Black Manta would be the main baddie, but that’s never been confirmed).

The movie is due out October 2018.

Amber Heard May Take The Female Lead Role In Aquaman

January 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Amber-Heard

While it’s still a couple of months until Batman v Superman hits cinemas, Warner & DC is busy at work ensuring they can expand their universe with numerous other movies over the next few years. Suicide Squad arrives this summer, then Wonder Woman in June 2017 and Justice League: Part 1 out November 2017.

However, before we get Part 2 pf Justice League, The Flash and Aquaman will get their own movies in 2018. Now Jason Momoa’s Aquaman may have find his leading lady, who will make her first appear and in the planned Justice League movie. The woman in question is Amber Heard, who THR reports in talks for the part.

If she does take the role she’ll be ‘Mera, the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. First appearing in 1963, the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.’ Heard should be on set this summer for Justice League: Part 1, then back again for Aquaman next year.

Zack Snyder is directing Justice League, while James Wan is taking on Aquaman.

Furious 7 Director James Wan Sought For Aquaman

April 11, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

james-wanA few months ago Warner & DC announced a huge slate of movies that they’re planning to make over the next few years, from Justice League to Wonder Woman. However a lot of those movies are currently lacking directors, although if Warner gets its way, they’ll fill the Aquaman job with James Wan, according to THR.

The helmer is currently extremely hot after helping Furious 7 to a record-breaking opening weekend. Many had wondered if he was the right man for the job as up to that point he’d only had success in horror, such as Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring, but he’s proven he can handle a massive action franchise.

Aquaman isn’t set for release until 2018, which should give Wan time to make The Conjuring 2 (which is shooting this autumn) and perhaps even another Fast & Furious sequel before his massive superhero movie is released.

Jason Momoa is set to play Aquaman and will first be seen in 2016’s Batman v Superman. It doesn’t appear Wan has signed the deal to direct yet, but it appears one will be sorted soon.

Jason Momoa Gets Out His Trident In The First Image Of Him As Aquaman

February 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jason-momoa-aquamanWhile there was initially uncertainly whether Jason Momoa’s Aquaman would appear in Batman Vs. Superman, I think we can take this as conclusive evidence that he will, before he gets his own spin-off film and an appearance in Justice League.

Indeed the first image of him in costume above suggests he’s going to have a major role in this, bring the Justice League together. Although it could also refer to the Seven Seas, with Aquaman being the only one true king of them.

We’ll first see Momoa as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March of 2016 (which is likely to be little more than a cameo), then he’ll appear in Justice League Part One in November 2017, an Aquaman movie on July 27, 2018, and then Justice League Part Two in June 2019.

Here’s how director Zack Snyder revealed the pic.

Out Actor Ezra Miller Will Be The Big Screen Flash, Amongst Other Major DC Comics Movie Announcements

October 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ezra-miller-slideA few months ago Warner Bros announced release dates for a load of DC Comics movies, but other than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, it didn’t say exactly which superheroes would appear in which movies.

That’s now changed, with 10 films having been announced running up to 2020. So what are we getting?

  • Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
  • Suicide Squad (2016)
  • Wonder Woman (2017)
  • Justice League Part One (2017)
  • The Flash (2018)
  • Aquaman (2018)
  • Shazam (2019)
  • Justice League Part Two (2019)
  • Cyborg (2020)
  • Green Lantern (2020)

There’s also plenty of casting news, with confirmation that Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Ben Affleck will return for Justice League, while Gal Gadot will be in Wonder Woman’s shoe in a solo movie, and Jason Momoa will indeed be Aquaman.

On top of that, while Grant Gustin is playing Flash on the small screen, queer actor Ezra Miller (Perks Of Being A Wallfower) will take on the role on the big screen. Ray Fisher meanwhile will by Cyborg. The fact both those roles have already been cast strongly suggests we’ll be seeing them in Justice League and they may even pop up in Batman v Superman in one way or another.

If that weren’t enough, there are also likely to be standalone Batman and Superman movies, so Warner really is betting big on its comic book world and that it can find the same sort of success that Marvel has. Of course if the movies aren’t as successful as they hope, the plans they’ve announced may well change.
