Begin Again Trailer – Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley look for music & emotional success

March 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Previously titled Can a Song Save Your Life?, Begin Again has now released its first trailer, so we can get a feel for this music infused upcoming movie, which stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Adam Levine, Hailee Steinfeld, Catherine Keener, CeeLo Green and James Corden.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Written and directed by John Carney, Begin Again is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who come to New York when he lands a deal with a major label.

‘His new-found fame soon tempts Dave to stray, leaving a reeling, lovelorn Gretta on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performance in the East Village and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges a mutually transformative collaboration set to a summer in New York City soundtrack.’

Cee Lo Green On For Can A Song Save Your Life?

June 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cee Lo Green is going to the movies, as it’s been announced that he’s joined the cast of Can A Song Save Your Life?, from Once director John Carney. He joins a cast that also includes Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, Adam Levine and Catherine Keener.

In the film, seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, Gretta (Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend (Levine) move to New York to pursue their passion for music. She’s heartbroken when he dumps her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract, leaving her all on her own. Left to sleep on the couch of an old friend, Gretta reluctantly agrees to play an open mic night before departing the city for home. Her world takes a turn for the better when a down-on-his-luck record producer (Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing and is immediately captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity – they may be each other’s last chance to turn their lives around.

Recruiting street musicians, amateurs, and professionals borrowed from the posse of Troublegum (Green), a hip-hop artist he discovered years ago, Dan throws himself into producing for Gretta. Fueled by his enthusiasm, Gretta begins to develop confidence as a performer and songwriter. Dan hopes that his new direction will repair his marriage with his estranged wife Miriam (Keener) and reclaim the respect of his daughter Violet (Steinfeld). Somewhere between friendship and their love of music, the two strangers strike a chord that captures the hearts of everyone around them, proving that every great story has its own soundtrack.

Production starts on July 2nd in New York City

Hailee Steinfeld Asks Can a Song Save Your Life?

February 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hailee Steinfeld made a big impact and scored an Oscar nomination for True Grit, but as so often happens when an actor comes out of nowhere, it takes a while until we see them in a follow-up role. She’s currently shooting Romeo & Juliet and she’s also booked in Ender’s Game, and now THR reports she’s joined the cast of the musical Can a Song Save Your Life? So it certainly seems we’ll see plenty of her in future.

The movie is about Gretta (Scarlett Johansson), a talented young singer who moves to New York City with her boyfriend, only to have him dump her when he gets a solo recording contract. Gretta crosses paths with a depressed record producer (Mark Ruffalo) and they strike up a relationship which could save each others careers. Steinfeld will play Ruffalo’s daughter.

John Carney, who scored a major success with the Irish musical feature Once, is directing Can a Song Save Your Life? from his own original screenplay. Production is scheduled to start in June.

Mark Ruffalo & Scarlett Johansson Ask Can a Song Save Your Life?

February 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Mark Ruffalo must have enjoyed working with Scarlett Johansson on The Avengers as they’re set to team up again for Can a Song Save Your Life?, which is a return to the music-film arena for Once director John Carney.

Variety says that in the film, Gretta (Johansson) is seduced by dreams of making it in the big city, and so she and her long-time boyfriend move to New York to pursue their passion for music. Soon after she’s heartbroken when he dumps her for the fame and fortune of a big solo contract.

However, her world takes a turn for the better when a down-on-his-luck record producer (Ruffalo) stumbles upon her singing in a local bar and is immediately captivated by her raw talent and inspiring authenticity.

It’s a chance for Johansson to show off her singing skills, but gets a bit more cred with the presence of Mark Ruffalo. The plan is to begin shooting in June.
