Ben Affleck’s Batman Will Be Tired and Weary In Man Of Steel 2

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckWarner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is having a busy time. Yesterday he helped announce an extension of the Harry Potter franchise, and now he’s been speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference. During the speech, he got around to talking about Ben Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight in Man of Steel 2.

It certainly seems like they won’t be going over the character’s origins yet again, with Tsujihara saying,”[He will be] tired and weary and seasoned and [he’s] been doing it for awhile.

He also addres the casting of Ben Affleck, which caused a lot of controversy on the Internet when it was announced last month,”[He is] perfect. We think it’s going to be huge. [The studio] could not be happier. We think it’s the perfect springboard for Batman and Superman”

Kevin Tsujihara added that a lot of announcements are expected to come out of the DC Comics’ unit at Warner Bros soon, suggesting they’re finally trying to properly rival Marvel’s success on the big screen.

Ben Affleck’s Batman May Get A Love Interest For Man Of Steel 2

September 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-superman-comic-con-logoEver since it was officially announced Superman and Batman would team up (or at least share screen time) in the follow-up to Man Of Steel, there have been endless rumours flying around. Now there’s another one, this time from Latino Review, which suggests Zack Snyder is on the love interest for Batman in the movie.

A casting breakdown has apparently been circulated to talent agencies, which says, ‘They’re looking for someone in their late 20s and are open to all ethnicities…. They’re being very specific and looking for an actress who is both tall and possesses physicality.’

As with always in Hollywood, a guy in his 40s is getting a much younger love interest (it would be nice if Tinsel Town could at least pretend they cared about sexism). There’s no news on who the character will be, such as whether it’ll somebody like Vicky Vale, or a brand new character.

The film is due out in 2015.

Ben Affleck Will Don Batman’s Cowl In Man Of Steel 2

August 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckIn a move that’s surprised many, it’s been revealed that Ben Affleck has signed up to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in the as yet untitled, Man Of Steel 2. This will be an entirely new incarnation of the character rather than following on from the Christopher Nolan films and will bring Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen

Ben Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will reprise the role of Superman/Clark Kent. The film will also reunite Man of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Director Zack Snyder commented,”Ben Affleck provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry Cavill’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”

Affleck recently starred in the Academy Award Best Picture winning Argo, which he also directed and produced. However he hasn’t had a huge amount of luck in big, tentpole movies such as The Sum Of All Fears and his last superhero adventure, Daredevil. However he’s been okay when part of an ensemble, such as in Armageddon, so perhaps he’ll be alright here.

There are already many wondering if he’s the right choice for Batman, but that’s probably how it should be, as from Michael Keaton onward there’s been a history of fans wondering whether someone was right for the role.

Man Of Steel 2 is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Filming is expected to begin in 2014, with a July 17, 2015 release date already set.

Next Man of Steel Likely Called Batman Vs. Superman, According The The Writer

July 23, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

man-of-steel-superman-poster-slide
Over the weekend came the exciting news that in summer 2015 Batman and Superman will team up on the big screen for the first time (at least in live-action terms, as they’ll both appear in the upcoming animated The Lego Movie).

However there was no news on what the movie will be called, but writer David S. Goyer has now stepped to give us the likely titles. He said, “So over in Hall H at the Warner Bros. – I guess most people know now – at the end of the Warner Bros. panel, Zack (Snyder) came out and he brought Harry Lennix, who plays General Swanwick in Man of Steel and Harry read a bit from [The Dark Knight Returns]. So the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015 and we’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”

ComicBookMovie.com confirmed that Warner Bros. has registered both BatmanVsSupermanMovie.com, and not SupermanVsBatmanMovie.com.

Henry Cavill will return as Superman, although there’s no news on who will be Batman. Zack Synder will direct with Goyer writing.

Superman & Batman Team-up Movie Officially Announced

July 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

batman-superman-comic-con-logoWith DC stepping up its game on the big screen, Comic-Con has become an increasing battle between DC and Marvel in trying to wow attendees. DC was first out of the gate, announcing that after years of speculation and hope from fans, Batman and Superman will finally team-up on-screen in 2015.

The film will be a follow-up to Man Of Steel, although DC is keeping the actual title close to its chest. Henry Cavill will be back as Clark Kent, although there’s no word on who will be donning the bat suit. (The image above is the logo presented on stage at Comic-Con).

Man Of Steel helmer Zack Snyder is set to direct. He is also co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.

Greg Silverman, the President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production at DC commented, “Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he’s a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way.”

It’s believed that the storyline will be inspired by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight returns, underlined at the Comic-Con presentation when actor Harry Lennix read a line from the graphic novel – “I want you to remember, Clark, in all the years to come, in all your most private moments, I want you to remember your hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you.”

However Snyder clarified, “We’re not adapting this thing [Dark Knight Returns], but it is the thing that will help us tell that story.” It does suggest however that Batman and Superman will at least initially be in some kind of conflict, although we’d be willing to bet they eventually team up.

Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, and Diane Lane are all expected to return for the film.

Earlier rumours (via THR) had suggested DC would also announce Justice League for 2016 and a Flash standalone movie for 2017, however it appears this didn’t actually happen at the panel (that’s not to say it won’t happen in real life though).

Director Zack Snyder & Writer David S. Goyer Returning For Man Of Steel 2

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zack-snyderWarner Bros obviously has confidence in Man Of Steel (and some of the first reviews suggest they have reason to), as they’re already moving forward with Man Of Steel 2. They’ve locked in director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer to make it happen, according to Deadline.

It isn’t known whether Christopher Nolan will be back as a producer. He helped shepherd the Man of Steel story with David S. Goyer, receiving both a story credit on the screenplay and a producing credit. Insiders suggest that even if Christopher Nolan does return as producer, his involvement will not be as “full blown” as his work on the first film, partly because he’ll be busy for the next year or so working on Interstellar, a sci-fi thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine.

Goyer’s three-picture deal with Warner Bros. includes Man of Steel, this upcoming sequel, and Justice League. Whether we’ll get the last of those will be determined by the box office success of Man of Steel, although even then we have to wait a while, as it’s been suggested that Warner may want a Man Of Steel sequel and a Batman reboot before Justice League.
