New The Equalizer Trailer & Clip – Denzel Washington wants justice for Chloe Moretz

September 3, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-equalizer-2014-slideIt seems like we’ve been waiting an awful long time for The Equalizer. After all, it went into production over a year ago and the first image arrived last December. However we’ll be able to finally see Denzel Washington’s take on the 80s TV series later this month.

And Sony must have high hopes for it, as they started developing a sequel last February.

Now a new trailer has arrived (via Enimen’s Youtube channel, no less), along with a clip and featurette, all of which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a former black ops commando who has faked his death to live a quiet life in Boston. When he comes out of his self-imposed retirement to rescue a young girl, Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), he finds himself face to face with ultra-violent Russian gangsters. As he serves vengeance against those who brutalize the helpless, McCall’s desire for justice is reawakened. If someone has a problem, the odds are stacked against them, and they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.’

The film arrives in cinemas on September 26th. [Read more…]

The Equalizer Trailer – Denzel Washington Helps Chloe Moretz take on the Russian mob

May 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Sony is pretty confident about The Equalizer. It doesn’t arrive in cinemas until September in the US (and October 10th in the UK), but they’re already developing a sequel.

Of course the sequel is reliant on the first movie being a success. Now we can get a proper feel for the movie with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring Denzel Washington, it tells the story of a former black ops commando who faked his death and is now living a quiet life and returns to action to rescue a prostitute from evil pimps; his actions cause the Russian mob to send rogue CIA agents to kill him; he battles back against overwhelming odds, defeating them and becoming “The Equalizer.”’

Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) wrote the screenplay, based on the hit TV series The Equalizer, which ran for four seasons between 1985 and 1989.

The-Equalizer-poster1Sony has high hopes for the film version The Equalizer as while it doesn’t arrive in cinemas until September in the US (and October 10th in the UK), they’re already developing a sequel. However the first film needs to be a success before any follow-ups can go into production.

To help get the word out a new teaser poster has arrived, which you can see above.

Expect a new trailer soon.

Sony Already Planning The Equalizer 2, But Will Denzel Washington Return?

February 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Equalizer-movie-pic1It’s increasingly common for studios to start work on sequels before a first film is out, but it’s still pretty rare to do that with a thriller, especially a full seven months before the film hits cinemas and the studio can tell if it’s actually going to be a hit. However Sony is confident enough about The Equalizer that they’re already developing a sequel, hiring Richard Wenk (The Equalizer, The Expendables 2) to pen a script, according to TheWrap.

Sony is feeling bullish about The Equalizer after a December test screening got the highest scores for an R-rated movie in the studio’s history. In the big screen take on the 1980s TV series Denzel Washington plays Robert McCall, a former Black Ops commander who lives a quiet life in Boston. When he helps rescue a teenage prostitute (Chloe Moretz), he finds himself going up against deadly Russian mobsters.

Washington only signed up for a single film. While it appears he’s open to signing on for a sequel, Sony is going to have to open its chequebook wide to get him – he’s been known to jump ship before if studios quibble on his asking price. Interestingly though, if he does sign on it will be the actor’s first ever sequel.

As yet no other talent is involved in the sequel, and it’s isn’t known if Antoine Fuqua is interesting in returning to direct. The Equalizer will be in cinemas in September.

December 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Equalizer-movie-pic1After years of talking about it a The Equalizer finally went into production earlier this year, but we haven’t heard much about it since then. Now HeyUGuys has picked up the first still from the movie, which isn’t particularly revealing but does show Denzel Washington in the central role.

Washington will play Robert McCall, a former intelligence officer who now lives a solitary existence while holding down a job at Home Depot. He is forced to spring back into action when an act of kindness towards a teenage prostitute (Chloe Moretz) lands him in hot water with the Russian mafia.

The film marks a reunion for Washington and his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua. It’ll be out next September.

Marton-CsokasAfter years of trying, it seems like the film adaptation of The Equalizer is finally going to happen, with Marton Csokas (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) signing on to play the main villain, opposite Denzel Washington and Chloe Moretz.

Antoine Fuqua May Direct The Equalizer, With Denzel Washington Starring

March 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

antoine-fuquaA movie version of The Equalizer has been in the works for a long time, and it finally looked like it was moving forward with Denzel Washington starring and Rupert Wyatt directing. However recently Wyatt became the latest in a fairly long list of helmer to pick up and then drop the project.

Now Olympus Has Fallen director Antoine Fuqua is in early talks to direct The Equalizer, according to Deadline. Washington is still attached to star, and is probably more than happy with the idea of Fuqua helming, seeing as he won an Oscar for the director’s Training Day.

Richard Wenk (16 Blocks) wrote the screenplay, based on the hit TV series The Equalizer, which ran for four seasons between 1985 and 1989. The show was about Robert McCall (Edward Woodward), a former covert operative who lives a life of solitude and devotes himself to helping others in need. The movie will follow that basic premise, with Denzel Washington portraying a modern character who truly despises any form of injustice.

The $50 million movie is eyeing a late spring/early summer shoot in Boston.

Director Rupert Wyatt Takes On The Equalizer

February 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rupert-WyattRise Of The Planet Of The Apes director Rupert Wyatt is getting busy. Just a couple of weeks ago it was revealed he’s setting up a movie adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ World War I novel, Birdsong. Now Variety reports that he’s in talks to take over the long-gestating movie version of the 1980s TV series, The Equalizer, for Sony Pictures.

Denzel Washington is already attached to star as a former spy who lives a solitary, reclusive life. He now devotes his time to stopping helpless people from being victimised. The original TV series, which starred Edward Woodward, ran for four seasons from 1985 to 1989.

Last December, Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) was talking to direct, but he’s no longer involved in the project. Assuming the deal goes through, Wyatt will direct from a screenplay by Richard Wenk.

Nicolas Winding Refn To Helm The Equalizer

December 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A film version of the 80s TV series The Equalizer has been in the works for years, with various people coming and going from the movie, but it’s never actually made it to a film set. Now a bit more momentum has built up behind it with the news, via Variety, that Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn is in talks to helm for Sony Pictures.

Denzel Washington is still attached to star in the film, based on The Equalizer TV series that debuted back in 1985. It starred Edward Woodward as a former spy who decides to help those in need, free of charge. The feature version will alter the premise slightly, with Washington as a lone recluse, determined to stop helpless people from being victimised.

Back in 2010, Oscar winner Paul Haggis was writing the screenplay, but it seems he is no longer involved. Instead Refn will be working from a draft by Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2). Shooting should begin in the spring of 2013.
