The Neon Demon Trailer – Nicolas Winding Refn teams with Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Keanu Reeves & Christina Hendricks

April 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neon-demon-pic1Nicolas Winding Refn has been working on Neon Demon for several years, but he’s been keeping details about the exact plot to himself. Even with this first trailer, things aren’t exactly made clear, but it does look rather intriguing.

IMDB says of the film, ‘When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.’

Refn has previously said of the movie, “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making Drive and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of The Neon Demon. This movie is a manifestation of the strong ties between us and will lead to many more adventures.”

The likes of Elle Fanning, Jena Malone, Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks star. [Read more…]

Keanu Reeves & Christina Hendricks On For Nicolas Winding Refn’s Neon Demon

February 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

keanu-reevesThe cast for Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming horror tale Neon Demon is coming together. He recently added Elle Fanning and Abbey Lee, and now Variety reports that it’s been revealed at the Berlin Film Festival, that Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Jena Malone and Bella Heathcote will also star.

Unfortunately though the announcement of new cast members didn’t come with many details about the plot or the characters anyone will play. All that’s known is that it’s a female-driven horror tale set in Los Angeles.

The movie will start shooting March 30th in LA and should hit cinemas in 2016. That’s all the details we know, but hopefully Refn – the man behind Drive, Bronson and Only God Forgives – has something interesting up his sleeve.

Drive’s Nicolas Winding Refn Going Supernatural With The Bringing

May 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nicholas-winding-refnNicolas Winding Refn has been having plenty of success with dark thrillers such as Drive and Only God Forgives, but now he’s heading somewhere slightly different as Deadline reports that he’s in early talks to direct  the supernatural thriller, The Bringing.

Sony Pictures snapped up Brandon Murphy and Murphy’s spec script back in February, which is loosely based on the mysterious death of Elisa Lam at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. She was found dead in the water tanks on the roof of the hotel in February 2013, with the added twist that before she died a video popped up showing her exhibiting strange behaviour, seemingly interacting with an invisible entity.

To give things an ever more sinister note, the hotel was previously home to serial killer Richard Ramirez and has been the site of numerous suicides.

While the script isn’t strictly about Lam’s story,  it does follow a man who is investigating a death at the Cecil Hotel.

Refn must have loved the screenplay as he apparently actively sought the director’s chair.

Great New Look At Ryan Gosling In Only God Forgives With A UK Trailer

July 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

They’re certainly laying on the style in this new UK trailer for Only God Forgive, which reunites Ryan Gosling with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Bangkok. Julian (Ryan Gosling) runs a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. He has everything he wants for and is respected in the criminal underworld though, deep inside, he feels empty.

‘When Julian’s brother murders a prostitute the police call on retired cop Chang – the Angel of Vengeance (Vithaya Pansringarm). Chang allows the father to kill his daughter’s murderer, then ‘restores order’ by chopping off the man’s right hand. Julian’s mother Jenna (Kristin Scott Thomas) – the head of a powerful criminal organization – arrives in Bangkok to collect her son’s body. She dispatches Julian to find his killers and ‘raise hell’.

‘Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release… but Chang triumphs. A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.’

It reaches UK cinemas on August 2nd, while it’ll be out in the US on July 19th. [Read more…]

Most of what we’ve seen on the film so far have been images of Ryan Gosling with a pummelled face, and now a brief teaser has shown up online, which gives us a look at how Gosling gets batters and bruised.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Julian (Gosling) lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for the family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed their mother, Jenna (Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer.
