Kate Winslet Re-teaming With Kenneth Branagh

January 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Actress Kate Winslet has joined the cast of wonderfully oddly named The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society for director Kenneth Branagh, according to the Daily Mail. It’ll be the first time they’ve worked together since Hamlet in 1996.

The project is based on the novel by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Schaffer. Kate Winslet will portray a 1940s magazine columnist who begins corresponding with a man from the small island of Guernsey, and learns how the inhabitants used a book club to outsmart the Germans occupying the island during World War II. The writer then takes a journey to Guernsey, where her life is forever changed.

Don Roos (The Other Woman, The Opposite of Sex) is adapting the novel for Kenneth Branagh to direct from. Production is scheduled to begin in March.
