Apropos Of Nothing: Cheyenne Jackson’s ‘Don’t Wanna Know’ Music Video

December 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Often when a singer/artists comes out, it’s very noticeable that their openness about their private lives doesn’t transfer to their music videos. If it’s a love song, they either have to pretend to be straight in the promos or they sing while a boy and a girl act out a hetero story.

That’s not true of out actor and singer Cheyenne Jackson, whose new video for Don’t Wanna Know is in no doubt that he’s warbling about a guy. And the good news for us if that Cheyenne is always gorgeous to look at, and he gets to ogle a lot more hotties as he wanders around New York. Plus the song ain’t bad.

We love Jackson, who’s a big name on Broadway but has never had the on-screen success he deserves, despite appearances in the likes of United 93, Glee and Hysteria. Even 30 Rock underused him in his semi-regular role as Danny. Next year he has two gay-friendly roles in the ensemble comedy Mutual Friends, and as the wonderfully named Billy Leatherwood in Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic, which also features Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. Hopefully they will help him break out as a real screen star.

Enjoy the new video above.

Neil’s Puppet Dreams Episode 4 – Neil Patrick Harris is a puppet-phile!

December 19, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’re loving the web series Neil’s Puppet Dreams, which is why we’ve been posting each new episode. Now the latest one has arrived, which might not travel outside the US as well as earlier eps, but is still a lot of fun.

The episode is a parody of the ‘To Catch A Predator’ segments of the news magazine program Dateline NBC, which follow sting operations that are set up to lure paedophiles to what they think is rendez-vous with an underage teen. However they actually get confronted by a TV reporter and are then arrested.

In the web series, the narcoleptic Neil Patrick Harris – who dreams in puppets – is caught up by ‘To Catch A Puppeteer’, where his sordid attraction to puppets is laid bare! Take a look above.

You can find more of Neil’s Puppet Dreams on Nerdist’s Youtube channel.

Crush Of The Day: Nicholas Braun

December 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nicholas-braun-Red-State2We’ve had our eye on Nicholas Braun ever since Kevin Smith’s Red State, hoping he’d find a vehicle to help him break out into the big time. However he seems to have a problem – he’s too tall. At 6ft 4.5in he has a tendency to tower over everyone else on the screen, which limits the roles the 24-year-old can get.

It’s not an insurmountable obstacle though (although can make things tough in the often blinkered world of casting directors) and he’d got some good roles coming up. Braun is still attached to the lead role in Kevin Smith’s hockey drama, Hit Somebody, which the director recently revealed was going to TV as a mini-series. He’ll also soon be dealing with the homos in Gay Dude, where he plays the straight friend of a gay guy, with the two high school pals agreeing to lose their virginity before they graduate, in true teen movie style. He also has Get A Job and Middleton in the can waiting for release.

Nicholas has previously been seen in Sky High, Prom, Chalet Girl and the TV version of 10 Things I Hate About You. Whether he’ll ever break big is still to be seen, but he’s got a friendly, open face and a geeky on-screen charm that should stand him in good stead.

Oh, and the reason we’ve decided to crush on him is due to his supporting role in The Watch, which reaches DVD in the UK on December 26th. He also appears as ponytail Derek in the gay-friendly The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, which will hit disc over here on February 11th. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Life Of Pi’s Rafe Spall

December 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rafe-Spall-Life-Of-PiIt’s been a good year for Rafe Spall. He appeared in Prometheus back in the summer and got a last minute role in Life Of Pi, after Ang Lee decided he needed to replace Tobey Maguire’s writer character and decided to hire Rafe for the job.

The son of Timothy Spall has been acting since his late teens, but he only started to get bigger and better roles in his mid 20s, after he lost a lot of the weight that he carried most of his life. Since then he’s scored parts such as playing painter William Holman Hunt in the mini-series Desperate Romantics, Ian in One Day and as a pompous, rather dim William Shakespeare in Anonymous (in that film, Shakespeare is just the public face of the plays, not the actual writer). Many also enjoyed his title role on the TV series Pete Vs. Life, where he played a character whose entire existence is observed and analysed by two sports commentators.

However what many may have missed is his sexy and sometimes very naked role in the 2006 TV movie, The Chatterley Affair. We’ve included a few screencaps from that below for your delectation. He may not be the most classically beautiful man, but Rafe is very cute and surprisingly sexy, so hopefully we’ll get to see him in many more roles. So click on the pics below to enlarge. And in perfect timing, a brand new trailer has been released for one of the films Rafe had coming next year (it reaches UK cinemas on February 8th), I Give It A Year, so you can watch that below too. Eastsiders – Entertaining first episode of the new gay-themed web series arrives

December 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s an awful lot of interesting stuff going on in the world of web series, presumably because it’s a great platform for the sort of stuff that TV executives would shy away from, but which can still make for good entertainment, especially in bite-sized nuggets.

Eastsiders has just launched its first episode and it looks like it could be well worth following, with a smart script, good acting and handsome guys. In the first episode it’s the morning after the night before, as two guys deal with the revelation of infidelity four years into their relationship. While that might sound a bit miserable, it’s told with humour and heart, and even in its first 13 minutes shows a knack for creating very human characters.

Here’s the synopsis for the series: ‘What happens after the world ends? Written and directed by award winning playwright Kit Williamson, “EastSiders” explores the aftermath of infidelity on a gay couple in Silverlake. When Cal (Kit Williamson) finds out Thom (Van Hansis) has been cheating on him with Jeremy (Matthew McKelligon), their relationship is turned upside down. Will the lies tear them apart or are they just stubborn enough to stay together forever?

‘Drunken outbursts and double standards abound in this dark comedy about the sad and funny messes we make out of our lives. Cal’s best friend Kathy (Constance Wu) is always there for him with a bottle of whiskey in her purse, but she has her own problems with her nice guy boyfriend Ian (John Halbach), even if they’re all in her head. Stephen Guarino guest stars as a party promoter throwing one last bash before the apocalypse.’

Williamson has commented, “I wanted to create gay characters with the same complexity and flaws straight characters are allotted. The way gay couples are depicted is often frustrating to me. There’s a huge spectrum of lifestyles and experiences within the gay community and I wanted to explore a kind of relationship that isn’t often represented.  We are so profoundly grateful to have assembled a cast of this calibre, because this kind of story really hinges on the acting.”

Take a look at Episode 1 above. New installments will be released over on the series’ website and on YouTube every week.

Neil’s Puppet Dreams Episode 3 – The Restaurant – Neil does not eat beaver!

December 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The new web series, Neil’s Puppet Dreams, is turning out to be silly but an awful lot of fun. If you’ve missed the first two episodes – you can watch them here and here – the idea is that Neil Patrick Harris is pretty much a narcoleptic, and when he falls asleep he dreams in puppets.

This time around Neil ends up dreaming he’s a waiter, but he’s brought the wrong food to a puppet with the best toupee we’ve ever seen. One woman’s got crabs, there’s a beaver that wants wood and the kitchen is full of illegal aliens!

It’s a little bit camp and very entertaining, so take a look above. New episodes of Neil’s Puppet Dreams are due to show up every week over on the Nerdist Youtube channel.

Crush Of The Day: The Hobbit’s Aidan Turner

December 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Irish 29-year-old Aidan Turner will be familiar to many Brits as the vampire Mitchell in the BBC’s Being Human. However he’s currently getting a much bigger international following thanks to The Hobbit. He plays Kili, the dwarf brother of yesterday’s Crush Of The Day, Dean O’Gorman’s Fili.

The two brothers head off with Bilbo, Thorin and 10 others and head for the Lonely Mountain, where they meet the dragon Smaug and get into a truly fantastical adventure on the way (and indeed coming back again).

Turner has also been seen in the Irish TV series The Clinic and played famed painter and poet Dante Gabriel Rosetti in Desperate Romantics. And if you like him in The Hobbit, you’ll be able to see plenty more of him soon, not just in the concluding parts of Peter Jackson’s trilogy, but also next summer’s fantasy film, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

And of course, you can also get a good look at the hairy-chested hottie in our gallery below. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: The Hobbit’s Dean O’Gorman

December 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas today, and what better way to celebrate than with hot pics of a star of the film who’s likely to become a much bigger name thanks to the movie – Dean O’Gorman?

He takes of the role of the dwarf Fili in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, brother of Kili (Aidan Turner – tomorrow’s Crush Of The Day) and one of the twelve companions of Thorin and Bilbo who go on the Quest of Erebor. He was very lucky to get the role, as initially Eastenders actor Rob Kazinsky was cast as Fili, but he left the production after a few days (apparently for personal reasons) and was replaced by O’Gorman.

While New Zealand born Dean is bound to become a much bigger international name thanks to the fantasy films, he might be recognisable to some of you for playing Anders in the NZ TV show The Almighty Johnsons. And if you’ve got a very good memory you may remember him as young Iolaus in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Young Hercules.

He’s also popped up in Farscape, McLeod’s Daughters and various other antipodean shot productions. And way back in 1998 he played gay in When Love Comes, and we’ve got a couple of pics from that below, as well as various other shots that show that the hairy-chested blond doesn’t mind getting his kit off. So enjoy him in The Hobbit and click below to get a bit more of an eye full. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Cam Gigandet

December 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s one very good thing about Cam Gigandet – he seems to be allergic to fabric, so there is no lack of images of him shirtless, showing of his defined physique and rippling six-pack. I may not be 100% convinced by his acting yet, but he certainly looks good on screen.

The 30-year-old made his debut in a 2003 episode of CSI, and followed that with extended runs on Jack & Bobby and The OC. However he came to many people’s attention with the 2008 double-punch of the fighting drama Never Back Down and Twilight (in which he played evil vampire James). This led to roles in the likes of Pandorum, Burlesque, Easy A, Priest and Trespass.

He’s back in UK cinemas on Friday (and on DVD on December 24th) with Code Name:Geronimo, director John Stockwell’s take on the Navy SEAL’s hunt for Osama Bin Laden – indeed in the US the film is known simply as Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden.

The release of the film is a good excuse to take a look at some of the best pics we could find of Cam, a large number of which get him to show some skin. So click in the images below to enlarge, and underneath the pics we’ve got some footage of his Burlesque nude scene. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Aaron Paul

December 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot more about Aaron Paul in the next few years, not least because he recently scored the lead role in Dreamworks big budget Need For Speed movie. However he already has a lot of fans thanks to TV’s Breaking Bad (for which he’s won two Emmys) and will be seen in UK cinemas on Friday in Smashed, alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

The Idaho born 33-year-old has been popping up in things for several years though, including Whatever It Take, K-Pax, Van Wilder: Party Liaison, Mission: Impossible III and The Last House On The Left, along with guest appearances in pretty much ever TV show from Beverly Hills 90210 to CSI, and 14 episodes of Big Love.

He was also once a contestant on The Price Is Right, as Jimmy Kimmel recently reminded him. You can take a look at that, along with Aaron’s reaction, below. And make sure you click on the sexy pics to enlarge them for plenty more Aaron Paul hotness. [Read more…]
