A Series of Unfortunate Events Trailer – Neil Patrick Harris wants three orphans’ fortune

November 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

series-of-unfortunate-eventsWhile in his real-life Neil Patrick Harris has done huge amounts in showing there’s no problem with gay people raising children, in Netflix’s new series based on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, he’ll be proving there are some people who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near them. We can now get our best look at him yet with a new trailer for the show.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the internationally best-selling series of books, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events chronicles the turbulent lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire after their parents’ untimely death in a fire. A careless oversight initially places the children in the custody of a distant relative named Count Olaf, a mysterious and devious figure who is seeking fortune by way of stealing their inheritance. After his elaborate plans are foiled and his evil intentions are revealed, Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) employs a variety of outlandish disguises to situate himself in the children’s path, causing mayhem for the Baudelaire’s and their subsequent guardians.  As the children manage to evade Count Olaf’s scheming attempts to steal their fortune, they pick up clues along the way about their parents’ past.’

Barry Sonnenfeld (Men In Black) is directing the first episode of the series, which is currently shooting Vancouver. It’ll debut on Netflix in January. [Read more…]

First Look At An Unrecognisable Neil Patrick Harris In A Series of Unfortunate Events

April 27, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harrisA few months ago it was revealed that Neil Patrick Harris had been cast to play Count Olaf in Netflix’s uncoming series of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. Now someone has managed to grab the first snap of him on the set, and if you weren’t told it was him, you probably wouldn’t believe it.

They’ve sure gone the whole hog with the prosthetics to give him the unique look of the creepy uncle-figure (actually a distant cousin) who takes in a trio of orphans. Olaf is the nefarious baddie, who ends up looking after Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, while having designs on their fortune.

Neil Patrick Harris Will Take The Lead In Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events Series

January 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harris

For a while now, Netflix has been developing a series based on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. It’s already been adapted as a movie starring Jim Carrey, but when that was a flop, plans for a film franchise were dropped. The hope is that as a multi-part show it will have more success.

Now the show has its Count Olaf – the creepy uncle who takes in a trio of orphans – and it’ll be none other than Neil Patrick Harris. THR has the news, saying Harris is currently completing negotiations for the role. Assuming he signs on the dotted like, he’ll be the nefarious baddie, who ends up looking after Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, while having designs on their fortune.

There have been a few ructions with the show, as Mark Hudis was due to be in charge as showrunner, but he’s just moved on and a replacement hasn’t been announced. However, Netflix is still planning to make the show with Neil in the lead. It’s not known when it will arrive on the streaming service.

Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka Get Cute Together For London Fog Christmas Campaign

November 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harris-advid-burtka-london-fog2More and more advertisers are including gay people in their ad campaigns, and while there is a slight sense of bandwagon jumping because of the free column inches and mentions on the web they get (which could be worth more than the ad space they actually pay for), overall the increasing inclusiveness can only be a good thing.

The latest to join the throng are Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka, who’ve signed up to front London Fog’s Christmas campaign, looking very cute together while wearing some very dapper clothing.

The images, which first appeared over at London Fog’s Facebook page, are above and below. They’re certainly looking good (and hopefully they both got paid well too).

David Hyde Pierce Is Turning Broadway Director With Neil Patrick Harris’ Hubby Starring

October 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-hyde-pierceDavid Hyde Pierce won a Tony for starring in a musical, picking up the award in 1997 for Curtains. Now he’s stepping off the stage and for the first time directing a musical on Broadway as THR reports he’ll be the creative force behind It Shoulda Been You when it opens in the spring. We’ll have to wait an see whether Tony starts knocking this time around.

He’s already lined up a great cast, including NPH’s husband, David Burtka, who’ll star alongside Sierra Boggess as a bride and groom who get caught in the middle of a culture clash collision when their overbearing mothers, played by Tyne Daly and Harriet Harris, try to deal with a wedding where the bride is Jewish and the groom a Catholic. Other roles will be filled by Edward Hibbert, Lisa Howard and Steve Rosen.

The show was a great success at the George Street Playhouse in New Jersey in 2011 (despite somewhat mixed reviews), and is now moving to Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre, with an April 14th opening night set.

It’s perhaps not too surprising Pierce got the job, as his husband Brian Hargrove, wrote the book and lyrics for the show (Hargrove has previously written for TV shows such as Titus and Caroline in the City), while Barbara Anselmi came up with the score.

Burtka will presumably head for rehearsals after he’s completed his recently announced role opposite Neil Patrick Harris in American Horror Story: Freak Show. The duo have been rumoured for the show for quite a while. It’s believed they were initially offered larger roles that they couldn’t fit into their schedule (and had also previously been in talks to play a gay couple in the first season of the show) but TVLine says they’ll now show up towards the end of the latest season. NPH will be in the ‘final two episodes as a chameleon salesman, while Burtka will turn up in the season finale in what I’m told is a sexy storyline with Jessica Lange’s batty chanteuse.’ With Matt Bomer also showing up in one of the episode, Freak Show is certainly shaping up to be something special.

Neil Patrick Harris Announced As Next Year’s Oscar Host

October 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harris-tony-awards-2014If we’re not careful, right-wing nutters will start talking about a gay mafia running the Oscars. For the last few years they’ve been produced by gay power duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, this year’s ceremony was hosted by Ellen Degeneres, and now it’s been announced that Neil Patrick Harris will take over those duties on February 22nd, 2015.

He is a fairly obvious choice, having become the go to guy for many of the other major ceremonies, including the Tonys, where for the last four years he’s beaten out the Oscars for the Outstanding Special Class Programs Emmy.

Harris has previously seemed uncertain about whether he’d want to host – although he has been part of previous ceremonies – but after Ellen Degeneres declined to come back and apparently Julia Louis-Dreyfus also passed, he agreed to take on the double-edged sword of steering the Academy Awards. Now he seems very excited about the possibility, as you can see in the announcement video below.

Zadan and Meron comment, “We are thriled to have Neil host the Oscars. We have known him his entire adult life and we have watched him explode as a great performer in feature films, television and stage. To work with him on the Oscars is the perfect storm, all of his resources and talent coming together on a global stage.”

And there he was probably thinking things couldn’t get much better than getting married.

Gone Girl (Cinema Review)

October 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens
Director: David Fincher
Running Time: 149 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: October 3rd 2014

Want a nailbiting, edge-of-your-seat thriller perfect for those crisp autumn nights? David Fincher is your man. From Se7en to Zodiac he has proved he can crank up the tension to almost unbearable levels, and he knows exactly how to treat Gillian Flynn’s potboiler book. When the flaws and cracks start to appear it’s more Flynn’s fault than Fincher’s – she adapted her own screenplay so has no-one else to blame when the plot starts to develop holes bigger than a sponge. It’s been portrayed as the struggle between men and women, but actually it’s more subtle than that, and hits its stride when it is a look at the American class system. [Read more…]

Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka Have Officially Tied The Knot

September 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

neil-patrick-harris-david-burtkaIt just shows how times have changed when you hear the news that a same sex couple got married, and you’re confused because you thought they’d already gotten hitched. However the news has come through that the always wonderful Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka got married in Italy over the weekend.

Harris announced the news with the slightly cheesy tweet, ‘Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband’.’

And just to make sure things were suitably gay, Elton John performed at the wedding reception. The ceremony itself was officiated by How I Met Your Mother producer and director Pam Fryman.

Same sex marriage is not recognised in Italy (they don’t even have civil unions), but we’re sure NPH and his new hubby have got that sorted, something that’s now possible due to the federal recognition of gay marriage in the US.

Only a few weeks ago the couple were having to deny tabloid rumours that they’d split up – but now they’ve shown that nothing could be further from the truth.

Yet More Ice Bucket Challenges: James McAvoy, Chris Evans, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Neil Patrick Harris, Sam Claflin, Josh Hutcherson

August 25, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ice-bucket-4There really is no end to the famous guys lining up to take the Ice Bucket Challenge. We’ve already featured, Matt Bomer, Chris Pratt, Joe Manganiello, Stephen Amell, Robert Downey Jr., Jesse Metcalfe, Lance Bass, and boyband Emblem3 as well as Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Vin Diesel, The Flash’s Grant Gustin and James Franco and not forgetting Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Cruise, Zac Efron, Channing Tatum, Jamie Dornan, Eddie Redmayne & Robert Pattinson.

It doesn’t end there though, as now we have James McAvoy, Chris Evans, Ian McKellen, Neil Patrick Harris, Sam Claflin, Hugh Jackman and Josh Hutcherson getting drenched. (And we particularly enjoyed Claflin’s dancing, as well as Chris Evans deciding in his lengthy vid that only a suit would befit the occasion).

Of course they’re all doing it to support ALS awareness and fundraising. In the UK ALS is known as Motor Neurone Disease and so Brits can give a bit of cash to the MND Association to show their support, while in the US it’s the ALSA that should be getting your money.

And for those moaning that it’s stupid and pointless, the ALSA has said that in the last few weeks they’ve received around $65 million, as compared to around $2.5 million during the same period last year.

So take a look at the guys having cold water poured over them below and then think about putting your hand into your pocket. [Read more…]

Gone Girl Trailer – Can you follow the clues of David Fincher’s Ben Affleck mystery?

July 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gone-girl-slideThe first full trailer for David Fincher’s Gone Girl has arrived, along with a few posters, all of which seem designed to give us plenty of clues and up the mystery of this upcoming thriller. Plus we get our first proper look at Neil Patrick Harris in full-on creepy mode for the film.

Ben Affleck plays a husband whose wife (Rosamund Pike) goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. Inevitably the hubby becomes the primary suspect in her mysterious disappearance, with the signs of a struggle making many assume he has killed her, especially when reasons emerge as to why he might have wanted her out of the way. However, as we learn more about the couple’s relationship, things become much more complex than they first appear.

Fans of the book will be interested to see how they’re going to handle telling the story in the movie version, as one of the main keys to the novel is that half of it is told in the present by the husband, with the other half being the wife’s diary’s. It’s a structure that allows it to go to unexpected places, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Fincher handles that on screen.

The film is due out autumn 2014. Take a look at the trailer and new posters below. [Read more…]
