Daniel Radcliffe Strips Nekkid On The F Word Set

September 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Daniel Radcliffe proved he was a clothing optional actor in the West End and on Broadway in Equus, and if you missed that, it appears we may get to see whole lot more of Dan in The F Word, the movie he’s currently shooting.

OhNoTheyDidn’t managed to get hold of some shots of a night shoot, which involves Dan and co-star Zoe Kazan apparently going skinny dipping (apparently their friends steal their clothes, leaving them only a sleeping bag for the night). As the shots are taken from a distance, it’s not 100% clear is the former Harry Potter is really completely naked, or if he’s got some sort of sock to cover his modesty. We’ve censored one of the pics below just in case (sorry, we’re just not that rude), but you can see them in their full glory (and a whole lot more) on OhNoTheyDidn’t.

The movie sees Radcliffe stars as Wallace, a young man who meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan) at a party where they hit it off. The problem is, Chantry has a long-term boyfriend, and the duo must navigate through a tenuous friendship (that’s the F word), while keeping their feelings at bay. It should hit cinemas next year. Sam Claflin Gets Shirtless On The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Set

September 17, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has started shooting in the Atlanta, Georgia area, and Celebuzz has gotten hold of some intriguing shots from the set, showing Sam Claflin (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) with his shirt off. The pics may be long-lens and a little blurry, but he’s still hot.

Claflin is playing the dashing Finnick Odair in Catching Fire, the hotshot Hunger Games winner who’s seen as charming, handsome, witty and the darling of all the women in The Capitol. While Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) takes a dislike to him, he reveals hidden depth as the story continues through the third book, Mockingjay.

Apropos Of Nothing: Ben Cohen Gets Sexy For His Calendar

September 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a straight guy, Ben Cohen sure likes making the gays happy, with his anti-bullying foundation trying to stamp out homophobic abuse, and he’s never shy of getting him top off and impressing us with his hairy physique.

Now a new video has shown up online which mixes the two. The Official Ben Cohen 2013 calendar is being sold of aid of the ex-rugby player’s StandUp Foundation, with the video presenting behind-the-scenes footage of the calendar photo shoot, highlighting the StandUp brand. Enjoy the Ben goodness above.

The Production Code May Have Come Down But We Still Aren’t Mainstream

September 13, 2012 By Lewis Shepherd Leave a Comment

After the production code was brought in during the 1930s in Hollywood it became much harder to show several different things on the Hollywood Screen.

There were restrictions on the length of time a couple could be seen kissing, whether you could show a couple in bed together, even a scene from Disney’s Snow White had to be cut because she was shown in bed with the seven dwarfs, and then there was a complete restriction on showing homosexuals on screen due to what was known as ‘sex perversion’.

However after existing in Hollywood for over thirty years the final part of the code, which just happened to be the section concentrating on sex perversion, came down in 1968, finally allowing homosexual characters to be shown in Hollywood films.

There had been gay characters shown in films prior to 1968, but these films were from countries such as Italy and Great Britain (notably Dirk Bogarde in 1961’s Victim, the first English-language movie to use the word homosexual), but with the dominance of the Hollywood film they hadn’t made enough of a global impact.

After the production code had fully come down, gay people were finally being shown in some films, but we had a very odd portrayal as throughout the 1970s and 80s we were mainly shown in a negative light, usually as villains or victims.

As the 1990s came around gay people finally began to get a slightly better portrayal. We weren’t necessarily tragic or villains, as we were now cast in the role of the ‘gay best friend’ in several Hollywood rom-coms, where we minced about helping our girl friends shop for the perfect shoes. Hello stereotype. But we were far from leading characters.

Over this period of time we were getting more of a leading role in some independent films, such as My Own Private Idaho by Gus Van Sant, but these were seen by limited audiences and we were once again just missing out on the mainstream, and we weren’t leads in big blockbuster films.

It wasn’t until the 2000s with the release of Brokeback Mountain that we finally saw a mainstream Hollywood Blockbuster depict two gay men as the lead characters. Alas they were very tragic figures but it was a true portrayal of the time it was set in. But since this we have still not seen many big Hollywood films featuring unambiguously gay characters as leads.

Yes there was Milk and The Kids Are All Right, which both garnered success, but this is only two where there could have been many more.

Maybe its Hollywood’s fear of not appealing to a big enough audience or maybe it is the fear of actors not wanting to be seen as gay and alienate a large section of their audiences – we will probably never know.

But what we can see is that whilst these fears hover around behind the doors of Hollywood, it looks as though while we’ve made progress we really haven’t come tremendously far in the last 40 years. Maybe we will just have to wait another 40 until there’s real parity with straight characters, and live with the fact that we do have exposure in many indie films these days. Every little counts after all.

Crush Of The Day: Joseph Gordon Levitt

September 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Who ever would have thought the kid from Third Rock From The Sun would become a big star? However he took the smart route, spending the time after the sitcom building a great reputation in smaller films, putting in strong performances in the likes of Brick and Stop-Loss, as well as the gay-themed Latter Days and Mysterious Skin.

In the last couple of years however he’s really broken through into the mainstream thanks to the surprise success of (500) Days Of Summer, followed by Inception, 50/50 and The Dark Knight Rises (which raised the possibility of a JGL centred spin-off). This month he’s got two movies in UK cinemas, both of which have received pretty good reviews. This Friday sees the release of the bike-messenger thriller Premium Rush, while September 28th brings us Looper, where Joseph plays a younger version of Bruce Willis, complete with prosthetics to make him look more the part.

It’s the perfect time then for some pretty pics of the actor. Click below for larger versions. [Read more…]

Kate Winslet’s First Titanic Screen Test – But who is playing Jack?

September 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

This is rather intriguing, not just to see Kate Winslet’s first screen test for the role of Rose in Titanic, but also to see who’s playing opposite her, suggesting Leo DiCaprio wasn’t the only possibility to play Jack. Winslet sounds more American than she does in the final movie and it appears to be a slightly earlier version of the script, but her Jack here is Jeremy Sisto, who at the time was coming off his success in Clueless. How different things might have been for him if he’d played Jack in the final film. Titanic is now out on Blu-ray in both 2D and 3D.

Why Gay Characters Need To Be On TV

September 10, 2012 By Lewis Shepherd Leave a Comment

Eastenders’ Syed & Christian

Over the last decade the gay community have come onto our television screens with a bang. Since the 90s we have seen a selection of television shows achieve ratings and critical success such as Queer as Folk, Sugar Rush and Lip Service, along with gay characters playing principal roles in other television dramas and comedies like Shameless, Skins and Gimme Gimme Gimme.

Aside from this we now have gay characters on our television screens on a daily basis with soaps like Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Eastenders featuring several gay characters and storylines, allowing everyone to see that we are just the same as everyone else.

However where these programmes, characters and storylines have been met with praise and positive responses, they have been equally met with dislike and several complaints to Ofcom.

Over the last few years there have been several issues in the news surrounding gay people on television, such as the complaints surrounding a lesbian kiss on Coronation Street, along with some feeling there were too many gay characters on the show. There were complaints surrounding a gay sex scene involving openly gay actor John Barrowman in Doctor Who spin off Torchwood, despite the programme being aired after the watershed, and there were complaints regarding a gay couple being seen in bed with each other in Eastenders.

The stereotyped days of Mr. Humphries are generally over

The fact of the matter is when straight people on these shows are shown kissing or in bed, we never hear of complaints being made to Ofcom because of it. And even more importantly gay people are part of society and therefore should feature in television shows especially soap operas. I mean we wouldn’t complain if there were too many black or Asian people on Coronation Street, would we?

Aside from gay people needing to be seen on television to show people that we are part of society, it also needs to show that we are just like everyone else, dealing with the mundane 9-5 working hours or having troubled relationship problems. Yes there have been stereotypes in the past such as Tom from Gimme Gimme Gimme or Mr Humpries in Are You Being Served. But in the last 10 years television has helped show that the gay community is just as diverse as every other community and that we aren’t all running around shouting, “I’m free.”

The most important reason for us being visible on screen is to show today’s youth that it’s oksy to be gay so they aren’t scared to come out, and to show others that gay people aren’t to be viewed as something different or to be scared of. Eventually with enough positive portrayals on television we may be able to almost stamp out homophobic issues, but until then we’re just going to have to keep showing everyone that we are just normal people.

Crush Of The Day: Dredd’s Karl Urban

September 7, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you ask me, Dredd is a mean film, as it insists on covering up the prettiness of Karl Urban with a helmet. Yes, we know it’s an important part of judge, jury and executioner title character, but why not let a really ugly actor and let Karl stand next to them looking fine?

Ever since the New Zealander was cast as Eomer in Lord Of The Rings, Karl has seemed to be heading towards the a-list without ever quite making it. Movies like Ghost Ship, Doom, The Chronicles Of Riddick, Pathfinder, and Priest didn’t set the box office (although that certainly wasn’t Urban’s fault), but he’s seen success with The Bourne Supremacy, Star Trek (as Bones) and Red. He’ll be back in space for Star Trek 2 next year, although before then he’ll be eyeing the box office numbers for Dredd. The production has been surrounded by rumours of problems, although early reviews have been pretty good, so hopefully it’ll find an appreciative audience.

So if you want to revel in all that is Karl (without a helmet on), take a look at the pics below. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Aaron Johnson

September 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Albert Nobbs hitting DVD in the UK today and Anna Karenina out in cinemas on Friday, it’s the perfect time to dribble all over some pictures of the yummy Aaron Johnson.

The 22-year-old raised a few eyebrows when he started dating the 23-years older Sam Taylor Wood, his director in Nowhere Boy, when he was only 19. However the relationship is still going strong, with the pair marrying in June. They’ve already got two kids together.

Johnson got his first big break in Angus Thongs And Perfect Snogging, before raising his profile with Nowhere Boy and Kick Ass, and just this year he’s been in Albert Nobbs, Anna Karenina and Oliver Stone’s Savages. The future certainly looks bright for the handsome young actor, although I have a feeling his slightly arrogant air on-screen may need tempering if he’s really going to hit the heights.

Click on the pics below for larger version and enjoy the scrumminess (and the vision of him in his underpants). [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Michael Pitt

August 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Boardwalk Empire – Season 2 hits DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on Monday, which seems to me more than enough of an excuse to revel in the hottness that on the series’ stars, Michael Pitt. The 31-year-old actor is the sort of person who might have been able to make it big in the movies, but instead he largely charted his own indie course before signing up for HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

He first came to prominence playing Henry, the younger boyfriend of Jen (Michelle Williams), in Dawson’s Creek. However he apparently hated the experience and so spent the next few years flitting between indie movies and the edge of the mainstream in movies like Bully, Finding Forrester, Murder By Numbers, The Village, Last Days and Funny Games. He caught the eye of many a gay viewer as Tommy Gnosis, the rock star lover of transsexual Hedwig, in Hedwig And The Angry Inch, as well as with his sexy and often disrobed performance in Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers. He’s now left Boardwalk Empire behind, and as we reported this morning, will be heading back to film with The First, about Mary Pickford.

While Pitt often exudes an aura of being all about the art, he has done some modelling for Prada, which resulted in some of the great shots below. Click on the pics for larger versions. [Read more…]
