Closet Monster had a successful run at film festivals, including screening at the Toronto International Film Festiva and BFI London Film Festival, as well as winning awards at the likes of the Melbourne Queer Film Festival, FilmOut San Diego and Atlantic Film Festival. The film is now on the brink of its UK cinema release from Peccadillo Pictures, screening around the UK as part of the LGBT-themed Poutfest.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘CLOSET MONSTER tells the story of Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup, Falling Skies), a creative and driven teenager who hovers on the brink of adulthood. Affected by his dysfunctional parents, unsure of his sexuality, and haunted by horrific images of a tragic gay bashing he witnessed as a child, Oscar dreams of escaping the town he feels is suffocating him.
‘He embarks on a journey of self-discovery with the beloved help of his talking pet hamster, Buffy (voiced by Isabella Rossellini), his imagination and the prospect of love, that will ultimately bring him closer to confronting his inner monster.’

The gay-themed short film Sparrow is currently in post-production, and to support that it’s released a trailer. However, it could also do with a bit of help, as the New Zealand short is currently crowdfunding on

He’s not only about Christmas though, as Williams has also directed the likes of Role/Play, The Men Next Door and Out To Kill.

Other People got a lot of buzz when it debuted at Sundance, but also sparked a little controversy after reports that people walked out during a gay sex scene featuring Jesse Plemons’ character. While Boys On Film has previously taken us around the world, this time it’s concentrating on gay-themed British shorts, from a night in a gay sauna turning into a fight for survival, and two men sit on a park bench speaking Polari, to a relationship becoming heated on a night out in London’s Soho streets,and sexual adventures awaiting two men in Sir John’s Trouser Bar.
Wonderkid got a big boost during its crowdfunding campaign last October when Ian McKellen stepped up to support the film, helping ensure it reached its targets. Now the trailer for the short film has arrived, which you can take a look at below.
It is not exactly a secret that JK Rowling is a massive supporter of marriage equality and LGBT rights, and it appears she has brought some deliberate parallels with that to the script for her Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. A new featurette gives us a few hints at that, with Rowling talking about the importance to her of heroes who are, “set apart, stigmatised or othered.”
