Hugh Jackman Stands Up To Support Same-Sex Marriage In Australia

September 30, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Things are getting heated in Australia as voting happens in the country’s same-sex marriage referendum. With the postal vote taking place over several weeks, it’s allowing passions to get heated on both sides, with the ‘no’ camp getting hysterical enough that they tried to stop Macklemore from singing ‘Same Love’ at a sporting event, as if that was going to be the deciding factor.

Aussie stars who’s stood up to speak out have nearly all been in the ‘yes’ camp, and perhaps not too surprisingly that now includes Hugh Jackman, who’s long been a supporter of gay rights. He took to Twitter to says that he and his wife Deborah-Lee Furness, ‘believe all Australians deserve to be treated equally under the law. That’s why Deb & I are voting YES #equality and #love!’

Jackman joins the likes of Kylie and Danni Minogue, and Chris and Liam Hemsworth, who’ve voiced their support for same sex marriage in Australia. Polls suggest a majority of Aussie support a change in the law, but even so it’s believed the vote may be close, partly as it’s believed those opposing same sex marriage are more likely to vote than those who either support or are ambivalent about it. The final result will be announced in November. [Read more…]

The Ornithologist Trailer – The erotic, gay festival fave arrives in the UK soon

September 30, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the past year, The Ornithologist has been picking up plaudits at festivals around the world, winning numerous awards along the way. It’s taken a while to get to the UK, but now it’s on its way, arriving in select cinemas on October 6th, before hitting DVD/VoD in early November.

Portuguese filmmaker Joao Pedro Rodrigues’ movie was inspired by the journeys of Saint Anthony of Padua, as well as Rodrigues’ own life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Fernando, a solitary ornithologist, is looking for endangered black storks along a remote river in northern Portugal, when he is swept away by the rapids. Rescued by a couple of Chinese pilgrim girls on their way to Santiago de Compostela, he plunges into a dark, eerie forest, trying to get back on track. But as he encounters unexpected and uncanny obstacles and people who put him to the test, Fernando is driven to extreme, transformative actions. Gradually he becomes a different man: inspired, multifaceted, and finally enlightened.’

Russell Tovey Set To Play Gay Superhero The Ray In Arrow-verse Crossover Event

September 24, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few years ago out actor Russell Tovey had never played a gay character on screen. That’s certainly changed, as he’s played a range of interesting LGBT characters in everything from Looking to Quantico. Now he’s set to play a gay superhero as part of an upcoming four-episode Arrow-verse crossover event, which will bring together the characters from the likes of Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash.

They’re also bringing in some of the characters from the animated DC shows that air on CW Seed, and that includes Tovey as The Ray. Russell is voicing the character in an upcoming animated show, and will then turn him live-action for the crossover event that will air in November.

The Ray is, Ray Terrill, a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. Before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realised he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it.

You can take a look at the trailer for the animated show here.

Aaron McCusker To Play Freddie Mercury’s Boyfriend In Bohemian Rhapsody

September 24, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director Bryan Singer is busy putting the final pieces in place for Bohemian Rhapsody, the biopic of Freddie Mercury and the band, Queen. The latest to join is Aaron McCusker, who’s set to play Jim Hutton, Freddie Mercury’s boyfriend.

As Deadline reports, Hutton was a ‘hairdresser… who was with Mercury for the last six years of the Queen frontman’s life. Hutton nursed him when he was ill and was by his side when he died in 1991. Mercury died wearing a wedding ring that Hutton had given him. After they developed a relationship together, however, Mercury often would distance himself from Hutton publicly, but privately they were heavily involved in a long-term romance.’

However, it’s likely we’ll see them in the early days of their relationship, as it’s believed the film will end with Queen’s triumphant performance at Live Aid in 1985.

Rami Malek is set to play Mercury, with Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Joe Mazello as John Deacon and Gwilym Lee as Brian May. The likes of Mike Myers and Allen Leech will also star. The film is set for a Christmas 2018 release.

New B&B Trailer – A bloody battle for survival erupts in the award-winning, gay-themed film

September 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

B&B has certainly had a fair amount of success on the festival circuit, including winning Best LGBT Film at the London Independent Film Festival. It’s also unusual for a British gay-themed movie in that it heads into full-on thriller/horror territory, while retaining a fair dose of social commentary.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marc and Fred return to a B&B to bait Josh, its Christian owner who had previously opposed them sharing a bed. Marc and Fred’s return visit is set to be weekend of mischief but events take a darker turn when Josh’s son reveals himself to be gay and another more imposing guest arrives, who seems to have something more sinister in mind.’

Peccadillo Pictures will release the movie in the UK on DVD/VoD on October 23rd. Take a look at the official UK trailer below. [Read more…]

Gay Short Comedy Film Magic H8 Ball Is Looking For Your Help

September 13, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are moments in everybody’s life when it would be nice to avoid responsibility and get someone or something to make all our decisions for us. While in practice it probably wouldn’t work out that well, for brief moments it feels like it would be bliss. The short comedy film Magic H8 Ball wants to take a look at that idea from a LGBTQ perspective.

To make it a reality, the people behind it have launched a Kickstarter, hoping to raise $15,000 before October 4th.

Writer/director Dan Haas describes Magic H* Ball as, “It’s a short film (put together almost entirely by a queer cast and crew) about a guy who asks a Magic 8 Ball to make all his decisions after he finds out his boyfriend cheated on him [leaving him with an STD]. It’s a wild, irreverent, heartfelt adventure that explores the line between love, hurt, and hate as Adam, an insecure people pleaser, begins to break out of his shell… until the Magic 8 Ball takes on a mind of its own—manipulating Adam’s heartbreak to take him down a dark path.”

Haas adds, “To anyone who’s experienced that confusion, that betrayal, that sudden loss of self – it’s a shock. And you’re stuck asking yourself, where did I go? Why is it that, without this person, all that’s left of me is this sad little ball of insecurity, hurt, and hate. And how can I make it go away?

“Magic H8 Ball is about more than being funny, more than being gay, more than breaking up, and more than challenging the stigmas around STDs – although those are all huge, important parts of this story. But more than anything, this is about freedom and expression and self-love. Even when we deserve to hate the most.”

It’s certainly a premise that has plenty of potential, but we’ll only get to see it if it can raise a bit of cash. You can take a look at the fundraising video below, and if you like what you see, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]
