Get A Full Body Look At Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise In The New Stephen King’s It Movie

August 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pennywise-it-bill-skarsgard-slideA few weeks ago – and very shortly after it started shooting – we got our first look at Bill Skargard as the evil Pennywise the Clown in the new two-part film adaptation of Stephen King’s It. That’s now been follow by another image that shows us character’s entire body rather than just his face.

While Tim Curry’s take on Pennywise in the 1990 TV mini-series version was based on a circus clown, the new take takes from of its inspiration from the classic Commedia dell’Arte and other historical clowns. It certainly looks pretty creepy. The story will be told across two movies, with the first dealing with a group of children’s interaction with a sewer-dwelling, shape-shifting monster that takes the form of an evil clown, and the second with what happens once they’ve grown up and return to take on the menace again.

It’s currently shooting, with Andrés Muschietti directing. The first part is due for release September 2017. [Read more…]

Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa Gets Trapped In New Power Rangers Image

August 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

power-rangers-elizabeth-banksIt can’t be long until we get a trailer for the new Power Rangers movie, but until then we’ve got a new image featuring Elizabeth Banks as the evil Rita Repula, trapped behind some type of ice or crystal wall. Once again it underlines that this won’t be like the fun but slightly cheesy TV show.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.’

The movie will be in cinemas next February.

Ben Whishaw May Join Mary Poppins Sequel

August 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lilting-ben-whishawDisney’s planned follow-up to Mary Poppins is fast coming together, with Emily Blunt in the lead role, Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda in the equivalent of the Dick Van Dyke role, and Meryl Streep in talks to play Poppins’ cousin, Topsy. Now THR reports that London Spy and Spectre star Ben Whishaw may be joining them.

He’s in talks to play an adult Michael Banks in the movie, which will be set in the 1930s and follow Michael and Jane Banks, as well as their children, after a major event takes place in their lives. That event results in the return of the magical Mary Poppins, who teams up with her lamplighter friend Jack (Miranda) to help the family.

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash) will write the songs, with David Magee penning the script. Rob Marshall is set to direct. The current plan is to shoot early next year, for release December 2018.

‘Mysterious’ Gay-Themed Short Film So It Goes Needs Your Help

August 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

so-it-goes-slideThere are some great gay-themed short films out there, but getting the funding to make them isn’t always easy. That’s probably why So It Goes has turned to Indiegogo, where it’s hoping to raise at least $8,000.

It’s described as ‘a mysterious short film with a faded aesthetic influenced by the novels of Kurt Vonnegut and Cormac McCarthy.’ Here’s the synopsis: ‘Something isn’t right at the Dallin farm where sickly 16-year-old Oren has been in foster care for 4 years.  Book smart but a social pariah, Oren is mourning his boyfriend, Tomaj, who died from kidney failure 6 months ago. Oren keeps to himself when Benji, a kind-hearted boy arrives to fill Tomaj’s empty bunk. When Oren sees what foster mother Ma Dallin has been up to, he must decide whether or not to tell the other boys. Benji’s sweetness gradually wins Oren over and he falls for the new kid and shares the deadly secret about Ma’s hi-protein flour. Frustrated that Oren would keep this a secret from the other boys, Benji abandons him, and Oren must decide what to do next.’

Director Andy Bosnak comments, “This screenplay says what I’ve always wanted to say, there is darkness in the world, but we can fight it if we join together. I’ve assembled a crew of experienced, talented artists who care about communicating worthwhile messages in film. We’re shooting in October. The movie will be finished in March 2017.”

Take a look at the fundraising video below, and if you like what you see, head over to Indiegogo. [Read more…]

North Sea Texas Actor Jelle Florizoone Is Out As Gay & ‘Finally Happy’

August 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jelle-floorizooneGay cinema fans will know Belgium’s Jelle Florizoone as the actor at the centre of the excellent North Sea Texas, playing a young teenager exploring her sexuality and becoming enamoured with a suave, older biker who briefly rents a room in his mother’s house. That was a few years ago though, as Jelle is now 20, officially out as gay, and says he’s, “Finally happy”.

In his native country, Jelle is also known for the children’s TV show ROX, and he starred in the gay-themed short film Headlong (alongside North Sea Texas co-star Thomas Coumans), which featured on the Boys On Film X DVD.

The actor is also keen to show off his Egyptian boyfriend, Amir, who he met not too long after the end of a two-year relationship. He told Het Laatste Nieuwswith, that, “A breakup is never fun, but I’m still young and that’s part of life. Life is a learning process with ups-and-downs. Of course I hope that road will be smooth, but that is unfortunately not the case. I learned from my previous relationship, because I have made mistakes.”

He adds, “I’m attracted to dark-haired types because I’m blonde. But I particularly like people with a story. Sure you first look at the outward appearance, but the difference between a flirt and a relationship has to be the content.”

Floorizoone certainly seems pleased, tweeting, ‘Pretty happy with this article. The word is out. #finallyhappy‘ He’s also shared a few great pics of him with his hottie boyfriend on Instagram. Take a look below. (Thanks to Attitude for the tip)  [Read more…]

Someone Will Be Coming Out As Gay On The Arrow-verse Superhero Series

August 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

flash-arrowA couple of days ago we reported that US network The CW is planning an animated superhero show featuring a gay lead, with Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which will air on their online Seed platform. Now it’s been revealed that this isn’t going to be the only LGBT expansion of the DC Arrow-verse.

During a Television Critics Association panel, Greg Berlanti, producer of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, announced that a gay character is coming to at least one of those shows. “It is a significant character,” Berlanti said. “We’re not trying to be coy about it…we just really want the audience to enjoy the character development and not be ahead of the storyline.”

Rather than someone new, exec producer Andrew Kreisberg suggested that it’ll be a pre-existing character, who “Will be exploring their sexuality and coming out.”

However, they wouldn’t be drawn on which show, or which character it will be. We will have to wait and see, although there have been plenty of suggestions already.

It’s believed that openly gay Berlanti has been keen to increase LGBT representation on the shows for some time, and he’s now moving forward with that. It’ll certainly be interesting to discover which character will be coming out, and also whether it’s one of the heroes or a side character.
