Abbie Cornish & Jim Sturgess Up For Geostorm

August 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jim-SturgessBack in April Gerard Butler signed up to get his disaster movie on in Geostorm. Now the cast is growing, as THR reports that Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish, Ed Harris and Andy Garcia are in talks to join the movie.

Butler is set to play a satellite engineer who realises the world’s climate-control satellites are malfunctioning. He has to team up with his estranged brother (Sturgess) to stop a man-made storm from destroying the Earth.

Butler head into space to fix the satellites (because satellites can cause storms, not just monitor them, right?), while his brother discovers a plot to assassinate the President of the United States (Andy Garcia), which presumably is linked to the storm. Cornish will be a Secret Service agent and Sturgess’ girlfriend, while Ed Harris will be the Secretary of State.

Independence Day producer Dean Devlin is set to direct Geostorm. He also wrote the original script, which is now being worked on by Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney. A March 25th, 2016 release date has already been set.

The 10 Year Plan Trailer – How do you avoid your last resort in the gay-themed comedy?

August 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

10-year-plan-pic8-slideJ.C. Calciano, the man behind Steam Room Stories and the films Is It Just Me? and eCupid, is back with The 10 Year Plan, a new gay-themed rom-com that’s currently doing the festival circuit (to some acclaim) and should be reaching DVD around Valentine’s Day 2015.

To get us in the mood for the film, take a look at the trailer below, along with a selection of pics that suggest that amongst the comedy are plenty of hot guys.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Myles, a successful lawyer as well as a hopeless romantic, wants nothing more than to find the man of his dreams. His best friend Brody, a handsome Los Angeles police officer, sleeps with every man he meets in an attempt to avoid feeling unloved. Fearing what will become of them when they get older, the two friends make a pact: to be a couple in ten years if neither one has found true love.

‘Ten years later. Nothing has changed. Myles is still being dumped on a weekly basis and Brody is jumping from bed to bed searching for a connection. A month before Myles’ 35th birthday, they both realize that their arrangement is almost due. Neither wants to hurt the others’ feelings by telling them they aren’t interested “in that way,” so they set forth to make sure that the other is in a relationship.

‘Myles and Brody quickly search for love for the other. In the process they start to  see each other in a new light, until Myles finds the man of his dreams. With Myles convinced he’s found the one, Brody is secretly relieved that he’s dodged the bullet of having to walk down the aisle together with Myles. But his excitement is short lived as he quickly realizes how empty and lonely his life is without Myles in it.

‘All the sexy boys in West Hollywood can’t seem to satisfy the emptiness Brody feels without Myles. He decides that he needs Myles back in his life, but Myles has moved on and may not want Brody in his.’

Corpus Christi Trailer – Looking at Terrence McNally’s controversial ‘gay Jesus’ play

August 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

corpus-christiThe documentary Corpus Christi, first debuted at film festivals back in 2012. It’s taken a while but now a US DVD and VoD release has been set, with Breaking Glass Pictures bringing it out on October 14th.

To give us a taste, a new trailer has been released, which you can watch below.

At the core of the documentary is an LA staging of Terrence McNally’s 1998 play Corpus Christi. Pretty much every production of the play has proved controversial, as it depicts Jesus and his disciples as gay men, Christ performing a same-sex marriage, and Judas betraying him due to romantic jealousy. It’s original Broadway production was met with protests and it’s been pretty much the same wherever it’s been staged, becoming a major target in the ever intensifying culture wars of homosexuality.

The LA staging wasn’t without its controversies either, but it led to a US tour and eventually headed to Corpus Christi, Texas, which doesn’t just share a name with the play, but is also McNally’s hometown. The film also looks at the protests and reactions against it, comparing the play’s message of universal love to the blind bigotry it’s been met with.

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

James Franco’s Ex-Gay Activist Movie Gets Teen Wolf’s Charlie Carver

August 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

charlie-carver-teen-wolfIt seems Charlie Carver can’t get enough of playing gay characters on screen. In Teen Wolf he was Ethan, who got involved in a relationship with the openly gay Danny, and now it seems he’ll be having an all-male threesome in Michael, the James Franco starring movie that tells the real-life story of Michael Glatze, who went from LGBT activist to ex-gay poster boy.

Deadline reports that Carver has joined the already filming movie as ‘Tyler, who gets involved in a relationship with Michael and Bennett (Zachary Quinto) and is heartbroken when Michael rejects his homosexuality’

As a young man, Glatze launched the magazine Young Gay America after working at XY, becoming a leading voice in the gay rights fight. However in 2004 he had a health scare involving a possible heart defect, which caused him to turn to conservative Christianity. Shortly afterwards he completely renounced everything he had previously stood for and said that he was now ‘ex-gay’. The 38-year-old is currently married to a woman.

Charlie Carver’s career until now has largely been in roles that call for twins, which saw him starring alongside his identical brother Max in the likes of Desperate Housewives, Teen Wolf and most recently the TV series The Leftovers, however it appears he’ll be getting a solo outing without Max in Michael.

Neon Trees Singer Tyler Glenn Seeks Funding For Doc About LGBT Mormons

August 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tyler-glenn-far-betweenWhen Neon Trees lead singer Tyler Glenn came out earlier this year, he joined the ranks of openly gay people who grew up in the Mormon faith. Now he wants to help share the stories of people like him, as he’s teamed up with fellow gay Mormon Kendall Wilcox to launch a Kickstarter to help fund a documentary called Far Between.

They hope that, ‘With your donations we will tell the definitive story of what it means to be LGBT and Mormon and why it matters to the American experience today.’

Wilcox has collected over 200 interviews in the hope that Far Between can start changing the way people talk about LGBT issues and the The Church Of Jesus Christ Of The Latter Day Saints. The popular perception is that gay Mormons either voluntarily turn their back on the faith completely or are forcibly kicked out. While this is true for many, there are also plenty of shades of grey, including those who still follow the precepts of the faith but outside the main arms of the church.

The interviewees include Glenn, who remains proud to be a Mormon, but faced a difficult journey accepting his sexuality and how to reconcile it with his faith. You can see what Tyler has to say below, along with a fundraising video, below.

Although the documentary is close to its initial $50,000 goal, that’s just the bare bones Far Between needs to finish the film. It is hoping that over the next few days it can raise even more to ensure the film can be the very best it can be. If you want to help out, head over to Kickstarter. [Read more…]

Former Scout George Takei Ensures Gay-Themed Web Series Camp Abercorn Gets Funded

August 15, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

george-takei-to-be-takeiA few weeks ago we brought you news of a new gay-themed web series, Camp Abercorn, that was looking for that was looking for funding on Indiegogo. The show had an ambitious $100,000 goal, and while it was doing extremely well, as the clock on the campaign ticked down it was still shy of its target.

Thankfully a late minute champion beamed down and, oh my, it was George Takei. He helped the show pass the $100,000 mark, both by making a donation himself and sending out a message of support on Facebook to get others to put up some money.

Here’s what he had to say, ‘This is an excellent new web series in the final hours of its crowd funding campaign. The filmmaker–a gay Eagle Scout–shines light on the Boy Scouts of America, both what it stands for, and the controversies it still faces.

‘As a former Boy Scout myself, it pains me deeply that the BSA still boots out gay scouts when they turn 18. This web series will help educate and inform, as well as entertain. That gets a big thumbs up from me. Let’s make this happen—even a few dollars could help them meet their goal tonight.‘

Camp Abercorn describes itself as ‘a dramatic web series about the blunders and the victories—an authentic portrayal of life on camp staff. For ten weeks each summer Camp Abercorn becomes a bustling wonderland of activity for boys, guided by their fearless leaders—the camp staff.’

The show will cover the issues of being a gay scout, as while Boy Scouts Of America now allows LGBT  members when they are minors, after they turn 18 they are kicked out and barred from leadership positions. It’s an issue particularly close to creator Jeffrey Simon’s heart, as he was an Eagle Scout until he came out when he was 19 and left.

If you’d like to help Camp Abercorn, it’s still taking donations on its own website.

I Am Syd Stone Trailer – Take a look at the the Iris Prize nominated gay-themed short film

August 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

i-am-syd-stone-poster-slideA couple of days ago we brought you the list of the films that are lining up to compete for this year’s Iris Prize, the world’s largest international gay and lesbian short film prize which takes place in Cardiff, Wales in October.

One of the films in competition is the Canadian short, I Am Syd Stone, so it seemed like a great opportunity to take a look at the film’s trailer. You can watch that below, as well as take a look at the great poster.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘A Hollywood heartthrob returns home for his ten-year high school reunion with the intention of rekindling a closeted relationship.’

In his director’s statement on the film’s website, helmer Denis Theriault comments, “In the film, Syd is at a point in his life where he’s achieved all he’s ever dreamed of. At 27 years old he has hit his peak. That’s a dangerous position to be in. How does one react to that? We always set goals and tell ourselves that when they’re achieved, our lives will be better for it. Oftentimes, that’s not the case. We get to that milestone or goal and we’re still left feeling empty. That’s where we find ourselves at the beginning of the film. Syd’s achieved this success, but has no one with whom to share it.

“I’m also incredibly fascinated by the public personas put on by celebrities. They’re never truly themselves other than when they’re alone or with loved ones (I guess, in a sense, we’re all actors).

“Ultimately, this film is a catharsis for me. The person I was, even 5 years ago, would never have believed that he would be tackling a gay subject in film, especially in such a personal way. I now am an out-and-proud man. All of the people I was afraid of telling either know or don’t care enough to ask. All they’re concerned with is if I’m talented, that’s it. As it often happens in life, we make bigger deals of situations than we really need to. But in that moment, it doesn’t matter. We feel like the whole world will come down on us.”

Gadot is set to play Reynold’s wife.
