Justin Mikita & Christine O’Leary Added To Matt Riddlehoover’s New Film

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Over the last few weeks we’ve been covering the growing cast of Scenes From A Gay Marriage’s Matt Riddlehoover’s upcoming LGBT-themed movie, which already includes the likes of Maria Conchita Alonso, Charlie David, Jared Allman, Josey Greenwell, Jonathan D. Lovitz, and Enrique Sapene. Now two more have been added, in the form of Gay rights activist Justin Mikita and award-winning comedienne Christine O’Leary.

Mikita co-produced last year’s Los Angeles premiere of 8: The Play, which chronicled the landmark trial of California’s Prop. 8, using actual court transcripts and first-hand interviews. O’Leary, who recently performed stand-up with Joy Behar, has been nominated “One of the 50 Funniest Lesbians in America” and serves on the Board of Directors for True Colors, Inc., a GLBTQA Youth Serving Agency.

Riddlehoover’s currently untitled film is about a newly together gay couple who find their blissful life disrupted by friends and relatives. Thematically, the script aims to grind gears about civil rights, hereditary illnesses, and life itself – all while making you laugh. Production is slated to begin shooting in Spring 2013 in Los Angeles.

As we reported a couple of weeks ago, the movie is currently seeking funding on Indiegogo, so head over there if you’d like to help.

Five Gangster Squad Character Posters Emerge

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With a new poster and trailer out this week, the hype campaign for Gangster Squad has continued with the release of five characters posters for the movie, which you can see above and below. We have a suspicion they may have been hanging around for a while, as they still have the old September release date on them, before it was shifted back to January, so they could film a new ending that wouldn’t remind people of the Dark Knight Rises shootings in Colorado. They’re new to use though, and pretty cool, so enjoy!

And if you want to know more about the film, check out the latest trailer here.

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Plans to bring He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe back to the screen are slowly moving forward, with Variety reporting that screenwriter Richard Wenk has signed on to rewrite the script, working from the original draft by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch (Predators).

The movie will follow He-Man, a young warrior trying to defeat the nefarious powers of Greyskull – including the notorious Skeletor – to save his magical world. Back in July, Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe Retaliation) signed up to direct. Richard Wenk most recently co-wrote The Expendables 2 and has been working on a remake of The Equalizer. His other credits include 16 Blocks and The Mechanic.

Sony Pictures is set to distribute the movie, although it isn’t known when filming will begin.

In the last couple of days, Les Miserables character posters of Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe’s Javert emerged, and now it’s the turn of Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried and Fantine and Cossette.

Here’s the synopsis: Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year. Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award®-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar® winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

New World’s End Teaser Poster Arrives

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shooting began recently of the third part of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright’s Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, The World’s End. Now Empire has debuted a rather classy new teaser poster for the film, showing off the pub sign, which is where the characters in the film are headed.

Here’s the synopsis: ’20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.’

Alongside Pegg and Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan are set to star, with an August 14th, 2013 release date now set.

Ryan Reynolds & Jon Favreau Teaming Up For Battle for Bonneville

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It appears Ryan Reynolds is hoping to team up with director Jon Favreau for the high-speed drama Battle for Bonneville, which New Regency is currently in final negotiations to acquire.

Iron Man helmer Favreau is currently busy prepping a film based on the musical Jersey Boys (and he has Magic Kingdom on the back-burner), and the current plan is for Favreau to helm Bonneville once that film is complete.

Dan Gilroy (Real Steel, The Bourne Legacy) wrote the screenplay based on the true story of half-brothers Art Arfons and Walt Afrons. The duo used to be fierce rivals on the race track, before teaming up to break the land speed record three times, using a jet-powered race car.

Ryan Reynolds and Jon Favreau will also produce alongside Mark Ciardi, Gordon Gray, Jonathon Komack Martin, and Jennifer Fox. (Source: Deadline)

Tom Harper To Helm The Woman in Black: Angels of Death

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Anyone who enjoyed the creepy chills of The Woman In Black may be wondering how a sequel would work, but after the $130 million plus success of the movie, it’s little wonder Hammer Films wants a follow-up. They’ve been working on the film ever since Woman In Black was released, working from a story idea by Susan Hill (who wrote the original novel), with Jon Croker handling the screenplay.

Now the movie has found a director, with Tom Harper signing up to helm the movie, which will be called The Woman in Black: Angels of Death. The film will continue the story four decades later. Seized by the government during World War II, the sudden arrival of a group of evacuated children at Eel Marsh House awakens its darkest inhabitant. Although there could possibly be room for some sort of Daniel Radcliffe appearance, it’s looking likely he won’t be involved.

BAFTA-nominated Harper (The Scouting Book for Boys, Misfits) sommented, “I am thrilled to be a part of The Woman in Black:Angel of Death. This will be a great opportunity for me to collaborate with a brilliantly talented team on the next installment in this exciting series.”

Ewan McGregor Will Be A Son of a Gun In An Aussie Indie

October 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ewan McGregor is one of those actors some love and others hate, but he does tend to pick unusual and interesting projects (which is why some have been great and a lot have been dreadful). Now he has signed on to star in the crime thriller Son of a Gun, for Australian director Julius Avery.

The movie is about Australian’s most wanted criminal (McGregor), and the complex relationship he has with a young protege. The project will be shopped around to buyers at the American Film Market in November.

Julius Avery will direct from his own screenplay. It will be the filmmaker’s first feature-length project after he earned recognition for his short film Jerrycan, a Jury Prize winner at the Cannes Film Festival.

Aaron Gilbert is executive producing for Media House Capital, which is financing the picture with ScreenWest. Production will begin in early 2013, with shooting to take place in Perth and Kalgoorlie, Australia. (Source: Variety)

New Gangster Squad Trailer – Ryan Gosling and co. take on the mobsters

October 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The release of Gangster Squad was thrown into disarray after the Aurora Dark Knight Rises shootings, as one of the main scenes towards the end saw gangsters opening fire in a cinema. The result was the release got pushed back to January and major reshoots were needed to add a new ending. Now the promotion of the movie is gearing up again, with a new poster and a great new trailer. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and – if he has his way – every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.’ The movie hits cinemas January 11th.
