Five New Dark Knight Rises Pics Emerge

January 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There no doubt that the film more people are excited about this year than any other is The Dark Knight Rises, and as a result they’re pouring over any new info and pics that emerge. Now five new images have arrived via the print and online editions of EW, which you can see above and below.

And if you’ve been wondering whether you’ll be able to understand Bane in the movie, Nolan is still saying he won’t be clearing up the dialogue. He comments, “I think when people see the film, things will come into focus. Bane is very complex and very interesting and when people see the finished film people will be very entertained by him.” It’s also been confirmed that the film will feature a rebuilt Wayne Manor and Batcave.

Schwarzenegger May Enter The Tomb With Stallone

January 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The currently director-less project, The Tomb has already signed Sylvester Stallone and is looking to bring on Arnold Schwarzenegger to play a key role, according to AICN. Antoine Fuqua was previously attached to direct.

Sylvester Stallone will still play the lead role of Ray Breslin, and expert prison designer who has to escape from the most secure facility he ever helped create. Both veteran action stars will soon come together for The Expendables 2, alongside Bruce Willis, who was also interested in The Tomb’s lead role, but passed.

The Tomb is also in need of a director, and Deadline reports that Mikael Hafstrom (The Rite, 1408) is in talks to take on that job. There’s no news on when the film might shoot.

Brad Pitt Reminisces About Being Hit On By Guys

January 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Brad Pitt c.1989 – Who wouldn’t hit on him?

The news that gay men quite like Brad Pitt isn’t, well, news, but it turns out the attraction is a long-standing one, going back to before he was famous. While on stage at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards accepting their Best Actor prize on Tuesday, he told the audience a little story about his first time in the Big Apple.

Back in 1989 he was in the city auditioning for a soap opera, but at the time he was a bit of a midwest hayseed and didn’t know how the big city worked. While wandering down the predominantly gay Christopher Street (site of the famed Stonewall Inn), all he kept thinking was, ‘My God, there’s a lot of guys in New York. But they’re so nice!’

Pitt has since become a staunch supporter of gay rights, having once said he and Angelina Jolie won’t marry until same-sex couples have the same rights. When New York gave gay couples the right to marry, the actor said ‘It is encouraging that New York has joined the movement to grant equal marriage rights to its citizens,’ he said in a statement. ‘But it is each American’s Constitutional right to marry the person they love, no matter what state they inhabit. No state should decide who can marry and who cannot. Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage.’

Sean Bean Playing Transgender Character In Accused

January 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Hollywood calls on him, they normally want Sean Bean to be a bad guy (or someone who gets killed relatively quickly), but he played a surprisingly large range of characters during his career. Now he’s going in a direction he hasn’t touched before, playing a transgender character looking for love in the second series of TV’s Accused.

Bean plays an English teacher called Simon and female alter ego Tracie, whose search for romance leads to a ‘terrible crime of passion’.

Bean commented, “I’ve wanted to work on a Jimmy McGovern drama for a while and I think this cracking script really delivers a powerful, emotional drama for the audience.”

If you want to watch out for it, it’ll be the third of four new episodes of Accused.

Bekmambetov Planning Lunar Boy

January 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov’s next movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, doesn’t arrive in cinemas until August, but it seems he’s already looking ahead to what he might want to make after that, as Variety reports that he has picked up the rights to Stephen Tunney’s 2010 novel, One Hundred Percent Lunar Boy.

The unusual storyline is set two thousand years in the future, when Mankind has abandoned plan to terraform on the Moon, leaving it and its colonists to their own fate. One of the inhabitants is Hieronymous Rexaphin, who developed a condition that allows him to see a fourth primary colour, which somehow means he can also see the future of all time and matter. If that weren’t enough to be dealing with he also has to wear goggles, because looking into his eyes kills people, which causes problems when he falls in love with an Earth-girl called Windows Falling On Sparrows. Together the pair must go on the run to avoid incarceration on the dark side of the moon.

It’s the sort of story that has the potential for an inventive and idiosycratic movie, but which could easily end up looking silly and ill-though out. Edward Ricourt (the upcoming Now You See Me) is the man charged with trying to turn the book into a workable screenplay. Good luck to him as it’s going to be a tough job.

Disney Motors Forward With Hovercar

January 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If a movie’s been stuck in development hell since 2004, you’d have thought most people would have given up on it, however Walt Disney Pictures is sticking with Hovercar, as they’ve brought screenwriter Dan Harris (Superman Returns, X2: X-Men United) in to rewrite the script, according to THR.

The project is based on Matthew Riley’s young adult novel, which is set in a future where people travel via hovering cars, and hovercar racing is an elite sport. The story follows a young man who enters an internationally-renowned racing school.

Harris certainly isn’t the first to have a go at turning the tale into a working script, with the likes of David DiGilio, John Sayles, and Blaise Hemingway previously having a go. Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are producing Hovercar for Disney.

Isabelle Fuhrman Joins After Earth

January 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Actress Isabelle Fuhrman, who stars as Clove in The Hunger Games but is probably best known from the title role in Orphan, has joined the cast of M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth for Columbia Pictures, according to THR.

The story centres on Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith, who crash land on earth years after the planet was deemed uninhabitable for humans. After the crash, it’s up to the son, who is viewed as a failed warrior, to save his father. Isabelle Fuhrman is playing Rayna, a friend of Jaden Smith’s character. Zoë Kravitz is also onboard to play Will Smith’s daughter, while Sophie Okonedo plays his wife.

M. Night Shyamalan is directing After Earth, which was previously titled 1000 A.E., from a script by Gary Whitta. Production is scheduled to start in March, on location in Utah and Pennsylvania.

Friends With Kids Trailer

January 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After writing and starring in Kissing Jessica Stein, Jennifer Westfeldt’s popped up in all sorts of projects. Now she’s making her directorial debut with Friend With Kids, and has enlisted the likes of John Hamm, Jennifer Westfeldt, Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Edward Burns, Maya Rudolph and Chris O’Dowd to star in it. A comedy of modern relationships and children rearing sees Westfeldt and Scott as two best friends who decide to have a child together while keeping their relationship platonic, so they can avoid the toll kids can take on romantic relationships. Their friends don’t think it can possibly work, but it seems to, until they start dating other people once the baby is born.
