September 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Much of the first four episodes of Season 5 have revolved about the fact Nelson’s new husband disappeared from their honeymoon – now its time for a bit of a confrontation with Nelson wanting to know exactly why Todd did it.

Here’s the Episode 5 synopsis: ‘Unaware that they are both sleeping with the same man, Reggie and Wood race to Palm Springs to be with a heartbroken Nelson (Ben Zook) and vow to help him get to the bottom of Todd’s scandalous betrayal by covertly following Todd and Damien to a pool party where Reggie and Wood distract Damien with some man on man action allowing Nelson to finally confront his estranged husband.’

Trans Actress Jen Richards Joins Nashville Season 5

September 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jen-richardsIt looked like it was the end for Nashville earlier this year. Despite having a devoted following, US network ABC decided to drop it following Season 4. However, cable network CMT (formerly Country Music Television) soon stepped forward to say it wanted to keep the show alive and so commissioned Season 5.

The new season now has some extra LGBT interest, as it’s been announced that trans actress Jen Richards has joined the cast. She will play the recurring role of ‘Allyson Del Lago, a tough but understanding physical therapist who helps a series regular through one of their most difficult challenges. This marks CMT’s first transgender character and the first out transgender actor on the network’. It certainly sounds like a good fit for the Mississippi born country music fan.

Richards is a trans advocate and activist, the co-writer/star/producer of the Emmy-nominated series Her Story; co-producer of the upcoming docu-series More Than T, and writer of its accompanying Trans 102 series; as well as a 2016 Outfest Screenwriting Fellow for her feature script Any Given Week. She will also appear in several upcoming projects, including CBS’s Doubt.

She will join the likes of Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O’Connor, and Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, when Season 5 kicks off. It starts in the US with a two-hour premiere on January 5th on CMT.

Popular Web Series My Gay Roommate Needs Your Help To Fund A Sitcom Pilot

September 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

my-gay-roommate-reloadedNoam Ash and Austin Bening’s web series My Gay Roommate has gathered a huge following on Youtube, thanks to the fun it has with its culture clash between gay and straight, and often oddly surreal touches. However, while we haven’t had any new episodes for a while (following the end of the third season), Ash and co. have big plans.

They’re hoping to reimagine and expand the show from 10-minute snippets into a half-hour sitcom format. In this new incarnation, ‘Nick and Max are roommates at Tuffet University, a classic liberal arts college complete with battalions of student groups, over-achieving freshmen, upperclassmen burnouts and the self-righteous indignation that characterizes Northeastern academia.

Nick Cohen is a newly out Jewish boy with OCD tendencies, while his roommate Max Finnegan is a broad-shouldered slob who may or may not have peaked in high school. Our unlikely duo takes on a freshman year full of firsts with a rascally band of suitemates: Rupert (an effeminate ladies man), his roommate Dom (the star linebacker) and Ernie (a techie Japanophile). They are joined by Sloane, Max’s no-bullshit upperclassman love interest, and her misanthropic roommate Mildred who become part of the crew.

‘The world of My Gay Roommate flips the social paradigm: being gay is not an issue, the football players are the underdogs while the a capella singers are the popular kids, the frat boys are the tame and rule-abiding students while the Women’s Rugby Team is the drug dealing muscle.

‘In this way, the show moves past the cliche gay-best-friend-side-kick and homophobic-straight-man relationship we see so often. My Gay Roommate presents a way of life that’s a little more 2016 – where a gay guy and straight guy are just friends. Best friends.’

A Kickstarter has been launched hoping to raise $65,000 to fund the pilot of the show, which they’re hoping will be the first of 10 new episodes. Take a look at the promo video below, and if you like what you see, head over to Kickstarter. You can also find find episodes of the web series by clicking here. [Read more…]

Patricia Arquette Speak Out About How Being Trans Cut Short Sister Alexis’ Career

September 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alexis-arquetteOn Sunday the sad news emerged that trans actress Alexis Arquette had died, aged 47. It’s since emerged that she may have passed away due to complications from AIDS.

Many of her friends and family have stepped forward to pay tribute. That includes sister Patricia who suggests transitions to living publicly as a woman essentially ended her blossoming career, as Hollywood simply wasn’t ready for her.

Patricia writes on Facebook (on behalf of the whole Arquette family), ‘Our sister, Alexis Arquette, passed away this morning, September 11th, 2016.

‘Alexis was a brilliant artist and painter, a singer, an entertainer and an actor. She starred in movies like Last Exit to Brooklyn, Pulp Fiction, Jumpin’ at the Boneyard, Of Mice and Men, The Wedding Singer, and The Bride of Chucky. Her career was cut short, not by her passing, but by her decision to live her truth and her life as a transgender woman. Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical. She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance for all trans people.

‘She fiercely lived her reality in a world where it is dangerous to be a trans person — a world largely unready to accept differences among human beings, and where there is still the ugliness of violence and hostility towards people that we may not understand.

‘Alexis was born as Robert, our brother. We loved him the moment he arrived. But he came in as more than a sibling — he came as our great teacher. As Alexis transitioned into being a woman, she taught us tolerance and acceptance. As she moved through her process, she became our sister, teaching us what real love is.

‘We learned what real bravery is through watching her journey of living as a trans woman. We came to discover the one truth — that love is everything.

‘In the days leading to her death, she told us she was already visiting the other side, and that where she was going, there was only one gender. That on the other side, we are free from all of the things that separate us in this life, and that we are all one.

‘She passed away surrounded by love. We held her and sang her David Bowie’s “Starman” as she punched through the veil to the other side. We washed her body in rose petals and surrounded her with flowers.

‘Alexis always had to do everything first. She left before we were ready to let her go. We are all heartbroken that she is no longer with us, but we are grateful for the grace and kindness we were all shown during this difficult time. We are comforted by the fact that Alexis came into our family and was our brother and then our sister, and that she gave us so much love. We will love you always, Alexis. We know we were the lucky ones.

‘The family asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations please be sent to organizations that support the LGBTQ community in honor of Alexis Arquette.’ [Read more…]

First Look At Dylan O’Brien Playing Mitch Rapp In American Assassin

September 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

american-assassin-dylan-obrienDylan O’Brien has had a tough year. He was seriously injured on the set of The Maze Runner follow-up, The Death Cure, which resulted in a lengthy hospital stay and recuperation. However, it hasn’t stopped his star rising, as along with the Maze Runner movies and TV’s Teen Wolf, he’s taking on the lead in American Assassin, which may end up becoming a franchise.

The first image from the movie has now been released, featuring OBrien as Mitch Rapp.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Two decades after the Cold War, Islamic terrorism is on the rise, and CIA Operations Director Thomas Stansfield forms a new group of clandestine operatives—men who do not exist—to meet this burgeoning threat abroad before it reaches America’s shores. Stansfield’s protégée, Irene Kennedy, finds the ideal candidate in the wake of the Pan Am Lockerbie terrorist attack. Among the thousands grieving the victims is Mitch Rapp, a gifted college athlete, who wants only one thing: retribution. Six months of intense training prepares him to devastate the enemy with brutal efficiency, leaving a trail of bodies from Istanbul and across Europe, to Beirut. But there, the American assassin will need every ounce of skill and cunning to survive the war-ravaged city and its deadly terrorist factions.’

Michael Keaton, Taylor Kitsch, and Sanaa Lathan also star, with Michael Cuestra directing. The film, based on Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp novels, will be in cinemas next year.

Benicio Del Toro May Star In Predator Reboot

September 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benicio-Del-ToroFox certainly feels there’s more life in the Predator franchise, as despite little love of the Alien Vs Predator films, and a likewarm reception for 2010’s Predators, it’s pushing ahead with a new movie, currently titled The Predator. This time it looks like they’re trying to get a little starpower, as Variety reports that Benicio Del Toro is in talks to star.

Part of the reason Fox is willing to pump a fair amount of cash into this project is the presences of Shane Black, the Lethal Weapon writer who’s turned into a a bit of a directing force with the likes of Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys. It was his concept that got The Predator off the ground, and he’s co-writing and directing the movie.

We don’t know too much about the movie, although Black has said it will be about a man called Quinn Mackenna, which may or may not be Del Toro’s role. There may also be space for Arnie to reprise his role from the original movie. It’s currently due in cinemas in 2017.

Trans Actress Alexis Arquette Has Died, Aged 47

September 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alexis-arquetteAlexis Arquette, transgender actress and commentator, has died, her family has confirmed. It’s believed she had been battling a lengthy illness. She was 47.

Her brother Richmond left the following statement on Facebook: ‘Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning September 11, at 12:32 am. He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loved ones. We were playing music for him and he passed during David Bowie’s Starman. As per his wishes, we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension.

‘I am feeling immense gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis, for being given the gift of being able to love her/him and to be loved by him/her. He was a force.

‘He died as he lived, on his own terms. I am immensely grateful that it was fast and painless. It was an incredibly moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward.

‘Thank you, Alexis, I love you and will love you always.’

Born Robert Arquette, Alexis appeared in films including Down & Out In Beverley Hills, Last Exit To Brooklyn, Threesome, Bride of Chucky, The Wedding Singer and Blended. Her transition was followed in the 2007 documentary, Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother. Although her outspoken comments sometimes proved controversial, she was amongst the highest profile transgender people in the entertainment industry. She is survived by siblings Patricia Arquette, Rosanna Arquette, Richmond Arquette and David Arquette.
