There have been a couple of attempts to reinvigorate the Predator franchise, whether it’s been getting them to battle Aliens or taking us to their planet in Robert Rodriguez’s Predators. Fox finally seemed to have given up on it, until Iron Man 3’s Shane Black rocked up with a new idea and suddenly, The Predator was in the works.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.’
Black wrote the script and also directs, with Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. There are still plenty of people sceptical that yet another attempt to reboot the Predator franchise will work. However, this time there is hope, as Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is writing and directing the film.
If you’re going to make a Predator movie, you wouldn’t think cute kids would be top of the casting list. But hey, it worked with Newt in Aliens, and now Robert Rodgriguez’s The Predator is getting a child star, as Jacob Tremblay has signed on to the movie, according to THR.
Fox certainly feels there’s more life in the Predator franchise, as despite little love of the Alien Vs Predator films, and a likewarm reception for 2010’s Predators, it’s pushing ahead with a new movie, currently titled The Predator. Shane Black had a huge hit with Iron Man 3, but the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director is returning to the world of neo-noir with a dash of humour, with The Nice Guys. He’s lined up a great cast, including Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger and Margaret Qualley.
They seems to have confused the word ‘nice’ with ‘good-looking’ in the title of the film The Nice Guys, as it’s already got Ryan Gosling set to star, and now 
Iron Man 3 turned Shane Black into one of the hottest directors in Hollywood, but even so we haven’t had another movie from him since, despite him developing various properties, most notably a film about pulp hero Doc Savage.
