The Predator Trailer – The alien hunter is back & just as deadly

September 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There have been a couple of attempts to reinvigorate the Predator franchise, whether it’s been getting them to battle Aliens or taking us to their planet in Robert Rodriguez’s Predators. Fox finally seemed to have given up on it, until Iron Man 3’s Shane Black rocked up with a new idea and suddenly, The Predator was in the works.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.’

Black wrote the script and also directs, with Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, and Yvonne Strahovski starring. The film will be in cinemas on September 12th. Take a look at the lastest trailer below. [Read more…]

Alfie Allen & Yvonne Strahovski Join Shane Black’s The Predator

February 23, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are still plenty of people sceptical that yet another attempt to reboot the Predator franchise will work. However, this time there is hope, as Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is writing and directing the film.

Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown and Thomas Jane are already set to star. They’ve now been joined by Chuck and Dexter’s Yvonne Strahovski, as well as Game Of Thrones’ Alfie Allen.

Not a vast amount is known about the plot, although Holbrook will be the main character, with Strahovski as his ex-wife. They come into conflict again when their son (Tremblay) is drawn into the battle between Holbrook and an alien creature. It’s now clear who Allen will be.

Shooting has just started in Vancouver, with a February 2018 release date set.

Jacob Tremblay Joins Shane Black’s Predator Reboot

January 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you’re going to make a Predator movie, you wouldn’t think cute kids would be top of the casting list. But hey, it worked with Newt in Aliens, and now Robert Rodgriguez’s The Predator is getting a child star, as Jacob Tremblay has signed on to the movie, according to THR.

The breakout Room actor joins the likes of Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown and Thomas Jane in the film. Tremblay will play, ‘the son of Holbrook’s character, an ex-Marine who discovers the existence of fierce aliens but finds that no one believes they exist’.

Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) is writing and directing the film. The Predator is due to start filming in Vancouver in February.

The Nice Guys (Blu-ray Review)

September 26, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Matt Bomer, Angourie Rice, Margaret Qualley
Director: Shane Black
Running Time: 116 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: September 26th 2016 (UK)

While writer/director Shane Black had a huge success with Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys takes him back to what he does best – crime thrillers with a dash of noir and plenty of comedy. This time around, the writer of Lethal Weapon and director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang takes us to the 1970s with The Nice Guys.

Holland March (Ryan Gosling) is a private eye. He’s also a functioning alcoholic trying to be a single parent to his daughter. He accidentally gets involved with enforcer Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe), after Holland’s case looking into the apparent suicide of a porn star called Misty Mountains crosses paths with Healy’s job involving a missing young woman called Amelia. Benicio Del Toro May Star In Predator Reboot

September 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Benicio-Del-ToroFox certainly feels there’s more life in the Predator franchise, as despite little love of the Alien Vs Predator films, and a likewarm reception for 2010’s Predators, it’s pushing ahead with a new movie, currently titled The Predator. This time it looks like they’re trying to get a little starpower, as Variety reports that Benicio Del Toro is in talks to star.

Part of the reason Fox is willing to pump a fair amount of cash into this project is the presences of Shane Black, the Lethal Weapon writer who’s turned into a a bit of a directing force with the likes of Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys. It was his concept that got The Predator off the ground, and he’s co-writing and directing the movie.

We don’t know too much about the movie, although Black has said it will be about a man called Quinn Mackenna, which may or may not be Del Toro’s role. There may also be space for Arnie to reprise his role from the original movie. It’s currently due in cinemas in 2017.

New The Nice Guys Trailer – Matt Bomer really wants to kill Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe

March 22, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Nice-Guys-One-Sheet-slideAfter a sejourn into superhero territory with Iron Man 3, writer/director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) returns to neo-noir with The Nice Guys, which has just dropped a new trailer. Take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Nice Guys” takes place in 1970s Los Angeles, when down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power.

‘The film also stars young actress Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer (the “Magic Mike” films, HBO’s “The Normal Heart”), Margaret Qualley (HBO’s “The Leftovers”), Keith David (TV’s “Community”) and Oscar winner Kim Basinger (“L.A. Confidential”).

‘Shane Black directed the film from an original screenplay he wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi. Joel Silver (“Non-Stop,” “The Matrix” films, the “Sherlock Holmes” films) produced the film under his Silver Pictures banner. Ken Kao, Hal Sadoff, Alex Walton and Michael J. Malone served as executive producers.

‘The behind-the-scenes creative team included Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It,” the “Sherlock Holmes” films), production designer Richard Bridgland (“Serena,” “Unknown”), editor Joel Negrón (“21 Jump Street,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”), and costume designer Kym Barrett (“The Matrix” films, “The Amazing Spider-Man”). The score was composed by John Ottman (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) & David Buckley (TV’s “The Good Wife”).’

The film will be out in the UK on June 3rd. [Read more…]

The Nice Guys Trailer – Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe don’t want to get shot by Matt Bomer

December 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nice-guys-poster1-slideShane Black had a huge hit with Iron Man 3, but the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director is returning to the world of neo-noir with a dash of humour, with The Nice Guys. He’s lined up a great cast, including Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger and Margaret Qualley.

A red band trailer is now here, which certainly makes it look like the film might be fun.

The film is about muscle-for-hire Jackson Healy (Crowe), a recovering alcoholic, and private detective Holland March (Gosling), a current alcoholic, who are brought together by the apparent suicide of a porn star. However the dead woman’s aunt (Basinger) claims that she saw her niece alive and well after she was supposed to have killed herself. Healy takes on the case hoping to make some easy money, but soon both men are dragged into a far-reaching conspiracy that is rooted in smog and the car industry.

And as you’ll see in the promo below, also seems to involve Matt Bomer really, really wanting to shoot them.

The Nice Guys will be in cinemas next summer.

Matt Bomer Will Be One Of The Nice Guys Alongside Ryan Gosling

September 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

matt-bomerThey seems to have confused the word ‘nice’ with ‘good-looking’ in the title of the film The Nice Guys, as it’s already got Ryan Gosling set to star, and now Deadline reports Matt Bomer has signed up too. Russell Crowe is also onboard, as is Margaret Qually.

The film is about muscle-for-hire Jackson Healy (Crowe), a recovering alcoholic, and private detective Holland March (Gosling), a current alcoholic, who are brought together by the apparent suicide of a porn star. However the dead woman’s aunt claims that she saw her niece alive and well after she was supposed to have killed herself. March takes on the case hoping to make some easy money, but soon both men are dragged into a far-reaching conspiracy that is rooted in smog and the car industry.

There’s not too much info on who Bomer will play, other than that he’s described as being ‘the heavy’. Qually meanwhile is daughter of a corrupt chief justice, who just happens to look an awful lot like the dead woman.

Shane Black is directing from a script he co-wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi. Bomer will head to the set as soon as he’s finished filming Magic Mike XXL.

The Nice Guys is due out June 2016.

Iron Man 3’s Shane Black To Direct The Destroyer

August 22, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shane-blackIron Man 3 turned Shane Black into one of the hottest directors in Hollywood, but even so we haven’t had another movie from him since, despite him developing various properties, most notably a film about pulp hero Doc Savage.

However now Sony has announced that Shane Black is set to take on a movie version of the popular adventure book series, The Destroyer, by Warren Murphy. Fight Club screenwriter Jim Uhls is onboard to write the script alongside James Mullaney. The latter has plenty of experience with the property, as while Warren Murphy may have started things off, Mullaney co-authored and became the sole writer of The Destroyer. Indeed the book series continues to this day, with the 151st title due out in October.

The Destroyer is based on the series of paperback novels in which Newark cop Remo Williams is framed, sentenced to death, then resurrected following a botched execution. He is brought back to serve as the enforcement arm for CURE, a top-secret, extra-Constitutional arm of the US government. Along with a seemingly ageless Asian assassin known only as Chiun, Williams sets out to clean up and take out those who oppose America’s interests. The stories combine suspense with Eastern mysticism to produce rapid-fire capers full of slick banter, social satire, and sudden violence.

It’s not clear when it will go into production, although with reports suggesting Doc Savage is nearly ready to go, it will probably come after that movie.
