Fifty Shades Darker – Unmasked Edition (Blu-ray Review) – Just how boring is it possible for kinky sex to be?

June 25, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Eric Johnson, Kim Basinger, Bella Heathcote
Director: James Foley
Running Time: 131 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: June 26th 2017 (UK)

Oh, dear God. How do you manage to make a film that’s supposedly about kinky sex be this boring?

At the end of Fifty Shades Of Grey, the timid Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and her S&M-obsessed billionaire paramour, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), had parted company. However, it doesn’t take long until they’re back together, with Christian promising he loves Ana enough that he wants to be her partner rather than her master. She isn’t sure, but they start dating again, and are soon negotiating a different kind of contract than the last movie. It’s a more unspoken one where they attempt to create a more equal relationship, despite Christian’s issues and ‘boundaries’ (which handily you can literally paint on him in lipstick).

It’s not going to be all smooth sailing though, as there are various figures out to cause them trouble, including the previously unseen ‘Mrs. Robinson’ character, Elena (Kim Basinger), who inducted Christian into kinkiness and isn’t quite ready to let him go. There’s also Leila (Bella Heathcote), one of Christian’s earlier submissives, and Anastasia’s boss, Jack Hyde, who may be looking to make a different sort of sexual powerplay. [Read more…]

Fifty Shades Darker Extended Trailer – Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson are back getting sexy once more

January 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m not 100% sure why it’s been called an Extended Trailer, as it’s actually shorter than the last promo that dropped, but a new trailer for Fifty Shades Darker has arrived. It gives us some new footage as well as a listen to the title track from Zayn and Taylor Swift.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter based on the worldwide bestselling “Fifty Shades” phenomenon.  Expanding upon events set in motion in 2015’s blockbuster film that grossed more than $560 million globally, the new installment arrives for Valentine’s Day and invites you to slip into something a shade darker.

‘When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance.  As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.

‘Also returning from Fifty Shades of Grey are Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini, who are joined for the first time by Oscar® winner Kim Basinger, Hugh Dancy, Bella Heathcote and Eric Johnson.

‘Fifty Shades Darker is directed by James Foley (Fear, House of Cards) and once again produced by Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Marcus Viscidi, alongside E L James, the creator of the culture-spanning blockbuster series.  The screenplay is by Niall Leonard, based on the novel by James.’

The movie will be in cinemas in February. [Read more…]

New Fifty Shades Darker Trailer – Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson get steamy again

December 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Fifty Shades movies are a peculiar phenomenon. The first trailer for Fifty Shades Darker broke the record for most views in 24 hours, but it’s a franchise that barely seems to register for those who didn’t immediately watch the trailer, with very people in between.

Now a second trailer has arrived.

New The Nice Guys Trailer – Matt Bomer really wants to kill Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe

March 22, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Nice-Guys-One-Sheet-slideAfter a sejourn into superhero territory with Iron Man 3, writer/director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) returns to neo-noir with The Nice Guys, which has just dropped a new trailer. Take a look at it below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Nice Guys” takes place in 1970s Los Angeles, when down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March (Gosling) and hired enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) must work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. During their investigation, they uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power.

‘The film also stars young actress Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer (the “Magic Mike” films, HBO’s “The Normal Heart”), Margaret Qualley (HBO’s “The Leftovers”), Keith David (TV’s “Community”) and Oscar winner Kim Basinger (“L.A. Confidential”).

‘Shane Black directed the film from an original screenplay he wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi. Joel Silver (“Non-Stop,” “The Matrix” films, the “Sherlock Holmes” films) produced the film under his Silver Pictures banner. Ken Kao, Hal Sadoff, Alex Walton and Michael J. Malone served as executive producers.

‘The behind-the-scenes creative team included Oscar-winning director of photography Philippe Rousselot (“A River Runs Through It,” the “Sherlock Holmes” films), production designer Richard Bridgland (“Serena,” “Unknown”), editor Joel Negrón (“21 Jump Street,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”), and costume designer Kym Barrett (“The Matrix” films, “The Amazing Spider-Man”). The score was composed by John Ottman (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) & David Buckley (TV’s “The Good Wife”).’

The film will be out in the UK on June 3rd. [Read more…]

Kim Basinger Joins Fifty Shades Darker As Christian Grey’s Former Lover

January 30, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite a critical mauling, Fifty Shades Of Grey ended up being one of the 10 highest grossing movies of 2015 and there are plenty of people out there who can’t wait for the sequels. Anyone who’s read the books will know that there is a major character who doesn’t appear in the first novel, but looms large over the sequels – Elena Lincoln.

Variety reports that Fifty Shades Darker has now found its Elena, as Kim Basinger is in talks for the role. The part is a key one, as Elena is Christian Grey’s business partner and his former lover, who may not be completely over their Red Room romance and isn’t impressed when Christian and Anna begin to grow closer. Her actions becoming increasingly important as the films go on.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are both due to return as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, with Luke Grimes as Elliott Grey, Eloise Mumford as Kate, and Max Martini as Taylor. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson has left the franchise behind, with James Foley taking over the role. Both Fifty Shades Darker and the third film, Fifty Shades Freed will shoot this year for release in February 2017 and 2018.

The Nice Guys Trailer – Ryan Gosling & Russell Crowe don’t want to get shot by Matt Bomer

December 6, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nice-guys-poster1-slideShane Black had a huge hit with Iron Man 3, but the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director is returning to the world of neo-noir with a dash of humour, with The Nice Guys. He’s lined up a great cast, including Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, Matt Bomer, Kim Basinger and Margaret Qualley.

A red band trailer is now here, which certainly makes it look like the film might be fun.

The film is about muscle-for-hire Jackson Healy (Crowe), a recovering alcoholic, and private detective Holland March (Gosling), a current alcoholic, who are brought together by the apparent suicide of a porn star. However the dead woman’s aunt (Basinger) claims that she saw her niece alive and well after she was supposed to have killed herself. Healy takes on the case hoping to make some easy money, but soon both men are dragged into a far-reaching conspiracy that is rooted in smog and the car industry.

And as you’ll see in the promo below, also seems to involve Matt Bomer really, really wanting to shoot them.

The Nice Guys will be in cinemas next summer.

Third Person Trailer – Fresh look at James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde & Liam Neeson in Paul Haggis’ star-studded tale

April 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Haggis won an Oscar for his multi-stranded tale Crash (although many people think he shouldn’t have). Now he’s back in ensemble movie mode for Third Person, which tells three stories set in Rome, Paris, and New York, set at different times in couples’ relationships.

The star-studded cast includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson, Kim Basinger, Adrien Brody, Maria Bello and Moran Atias.

Neeson plays a man who leaves his wife to go live with the much younger Olivia Wilde, Franco and Kunis are a former couple who can’t stop warring over custody of their son, while Adrien Brody is involved with a woman whose child has ended up in the hands of people traffickers.

It’s certainly sounds like there’s plenty of drama (and Crash haters will probably already be cringing). The movie hits the US in June, but it’s not clear when it will come to the UK. [Read more…]

Kim Basinger Has A Grudge Match With Stallone & De Niro

November 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Putting Raging Bull’s Robert De Niro and Rocky’s Sylvester Stallone in the ring together is certainly an interesting idea, and that’s what’s happening in Grudge Match. Now the two stars have some female company, as Variety reports Kim Basinger has joined the cast of director Peter Segal’s (Get Smart) film.

The film is said to want to evoke the spirit of Space Cowboys, although rather than seeing old guys go into space, this one has retired boxers Billy “The Kid” McGuigan and Henry “Razor” Sharp (De Niro and Stallone), who were bitter rivals during their pugilist careers, coaxed out of retirement for one last bout. However these aren’t guys who gave up fighting a couple of years ago, as their last match-up was 40 years ago. Kim Basinger will play a woman with ties to both characters.

Tim Kelleher wrote the original draft of the screenplay, with Entourage creator Doug Ellin providing the most recent rewrite. It isn’t known when the film might shoot.

Kim Basinger Up For Paul Haggis’ Third Person

October 6, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s difficult to know whether Kim Basinger’s rather sporadic film appearances over the last few year are more to do with choice or simply because not that many people have roles for her. She was last seen in 2010’s Charlie St. Cloud, but has now signed up for a part in Crash writer/director Paul Haggis’ new drama, Third Person.

The movie is about three couples living in New York, Rome, and Paris. THR reports that the actress will portray the wife of Liam Neeson’s character, a writer in Paris. Back in April Olivia Wilde signed up to play Neeson’s girlfriend, which suggests the plot will revolve around some extramarital shenanigans.

Mila Kunis and James Franco are playing an estranged New York couple, while Casey Affleck and Moran Atias will be a new couple taking a road trip through Italy. Each couple and city represent the beginning, middle, and end of a relationship.

Paul Haggis will direct from his own screenplay, with shooting starting on October 17th in Rome.
