Silence Trailer – Plus a poster for Martin Scorsese’s drama starring Andrew Garfield & Liam Neeson

November 23, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

silence-poster-slideMartin Scorsese has been attached to Silence for years. However he kept putting it back, to the point where it briefly ended up in court as some of the backers felt he was essentially preventing it from actually getting made by never getting round to making it, but keeping himself attached to helm.

That was sorted out and Scorsese has now filmed the movie, based on Shusaku Endo’s novel. Set in the 17th Century, the story follows Father Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield), a Portuguese Jesuit priest who travels to Japan to confront his mentor, after rumours surface that he has abandoned the church. Ken Watanabe will portray Father Rodrigues’ Japanese interpreter, while Liam Neeson,Issei Ogata and Adam Driver also star.

The movie is getting an Oscar-qualifying run in the US in December, before expanding in January. It’ll be out in the UK early next year. [Read more…]

A Monster Calls Teaser Trailer – Liam Neeson becomes a talking tree monster

November 19, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

a-monster-calls-pic1Liam Neeson is doing something a little different from the Taken and Non-Stop action-fests he’s been best known for in the last few years, as he’s becoming a tree creature with A Monster Calls. J.A. Bayona directs the movie, based on the novel by Patrick Ness.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A visually spectacular drama from acclaimed director Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Impossible”), based on the award-winning children’s fantasy novel. 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) attempts to deal with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness and the bullying of his classmates by escaping into a fantastical world of monsters and fairy tales that explore courage, loss, and faith.’

We’ve got a long time to wait for this strange but intriguing looking movie, as it’s not due out until autumn 2016, but you can get your first taste with the teaser trailer below.

Tak3n Trailer – Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills becomes a pacifist (not really)

October 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Taken-3-QuadIn Tak3n (or Taken 3, for those who cringe at bringing numbers into words) Liam Neeson becomes a Buddhist monk, has tea parties and teaches people that hugging bunnies is better than violence. Ok, no he doesn’t, he kicks a lot more ass and does his best impression of Richard Kimble in The Fugitive by going on the run after being framed for the murder of his (ex-)wife. Did a one-armed man do it?

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Liam Neeson returns as ex-covert operative Bryan Mills, whose reconciliation with his ex-wife is tragically cut short when she is brutally murdered. Consumed with rage, and framed for the crime, he goes on the run to evade the relentless pursuit of the CIA, FBI and the police. For one last time, Mills must use his “particular set of skills,” to track down the real killers, exact his unique brand of justice, and protect the only thing that matters to him now – his daughter.’

The movie is out in the UK on January 8th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Liam Neeson Is Back & Getting Angry In The First Taken 3 Pics

September 23, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

taken-3-pic1Bryan Mills is coming back with Taken 3, officially known as Tak3n, and now the first pictures from the movie has arrived, which suggests he’s not going to have calmed down and spend the entire running time knitting.

USA Today has the pics – which feature Neeson, Maggie Grace and Taken newbie Forest Whitaker – and also offers some of our first info on the plot.

This time around Mills is framed for murder, with Neeson saying, “I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities. Bryan Mills served his country faithfully, but now even they are after him. They must not like me. This time, no more traveling. If my daughter was ‘taken’ again on a trip, Bryan Mills would have to be certifiably locked up for bad parenting.”

He adds, “Bryan Mills wants to fight quick, using the dirtiest moves possible to finish. It’s not like, ‘Put your fists up, fellow!’ Why fight like that when you can kick someone in the kneecap and be done with it?”

Its’ the first Taken film for Forest Whitaker, who plays a law enforcement agent in pursuit of Mills. he comments,”People are attracted to quiet heroes. Liam’s presence has that. He gives people a sense of comfort and security. And he’s an excellent actor… There’s no big fight between us, which I would have loved. That will have to wait until Taken 4.”

We’re unlikely to get that further sequel though, with Neeson saying, “It’s a rollicking good story. But I think this is the end. If I feel audiences saying, ‘Come on, he’s 62, enough is enough,’ I’m very sensitive to that and if I pick up that vibe it will all stop. And I’ll start playing dads or grandfathers,. But I keep myself pretty fit and my knees are still great. And it’s fun.”

Take a look at the kids above and below. [Read more…]

Liam Neeson Sought For Harlan Coben Adaptation Tell No One

September 18, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

liam-neesonLiam Neeson has made a bit of a name for himself as cinema’s hard man, and therefore the news that Universal is after him to star in their adaptation of Harlan Coben’s Tell No One, according to Deadline.

The book is about a paediatrician who is out one night frolicking by a lake with his wife when she suddenly vanishes and he is severely beaten when he tries to find her. When she turns up murdered, he is the prime suspect. That’s until she’s declared a victim of a caught serial killer. Years later, bodies turn up in the same spot and the nightmare is repeated, the paediatrician again under suspicion. Right around that time, he’s given evidence that his wife isn’t dead at all.

Back in 2011 Ben Affleck was set to direct (long before he became attached to the somewhat similarly themed Gone Girl), with Universal picking up the rights following a successful French version by Guillaume Canet in 2006. Last we heard Gavin O’Connor had taken over as director, although he’s not mentioned in the Deadline report.

Chris Terrio (Argo) has come up with the screenplay, but Neeson’s involvement in contingent on more work being done on the script to make him happy.

A Walk Among the Tombstones Trailer – Liam Neeson turns private eye

May 30, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When A Walk Among The Tombstones was announced, it sounded like Liam Neeson would be going back into Taken mode. However this trailer suggests some a little more dramatic and interesting.

The film is ‘Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels, A Walk among the Tombstones stars Liam Neeson as Matt Scudder, an ex-NYPD cop who now works as an unlicensed private investigator operating just outside the law. When Scudder reluctantly agrees to help a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens) hunt down the men who kidnapped and then brutally murdered his wife, the PI learns that this is not the first time these men have committed this sort of twisted crime…nor will it be the last. Blurring the lines between right and wrong, Scudder races to track the deviants through the backstreets of New York City before they kill again.’

Scott Frank (The Lookout) writes and directs, with the likes of Boyd Holbrook and Dan Stevens co-starring. [Read more…]
