The Grand Budapest Hotel (Blu-ray Review)

July 7, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F. Murray Abraham, Jude Law, Adrien Brody
Director: Wes Anderson
Running Time: 95 min
Certificate: 15
Release Date: July 7th 2014 (UK)

I should probably start off by saying I’m generally not a great fan of director Wes Anderson. I’ve found most of his films far too pleased with themselves and so obsessed with their own quirkiness that it actually got in the way of the film rather than enhancing it.

That said, The Grand Budapest Hotel is the first Anderson movie I’ve enjoyed from end to end since the director’s debut, Bottle Rocket. Previously Anderson’s idiosyncratic style has leaned towards farce while pretending it was something else. With his last film, Moonrise Kingdom he went full farce for large chunks of the film, and they were undoubtedly the best bits. [Read more…]

Third Person Trailer – Fresh look at James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde & Liam Neeson in Paul Haggis’ star-studded tale

April 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Haggis won an Oscar for his multi-stranded tale Crash (although many people think he shouldn’t have). Now he’s back in ensemble movie mode for Third Person, which tells three stories set in Rome, Paris, and New York, set at different times in couples’ relationships.

The star-studded cast includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson, Kim Basinger, Adrien Brody, Maria Bello and Moran Atias.

Neeson plays a man who leaves his wife to go live with the much younger Olivia Wilde, Franco and Kunis are a former couple who can’t stop warring over custody of their son, while Adrien Brody is involved with a woman whose child has ended up in the hands of people traffickers.

It’s certainly sounds like there’s plenty of drama (and Crash haters will probably already be cringing). The movie hits the US in June, but it’s not clear when it will come to the UK. [Read more…]

The Grand Budapest Hotel Trailer – First look at Wes Anderson’s star-studded latest

October 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Wes Anderson’s is a bit of a love him or be bored by him director, there’s no doubt a lot of people adore his quirky, eccentric movies – and that includes a lot of famous names, who are happy to show up to appear in his flicks. Indeed, he’s almost got his own repertory company with names such as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray and Ed Norton, who are all back for The Grand Budapest Hotel.

They’re not the only great names, as Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, Harvey Keitel, Saoirse Ronan, Lea Seydoux, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton and Tom Wilkinson also star,

Adrien Brody Planning An American Heist Alongside Hayden Christensen

June 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

adrien-brodyWe haven’t seen much of Hayden Christensen recently, but he’s now set up Glacier Films with a fairly large slate of films he plans to produce and/or star in. One of the first of those is American Heist, which TheWrap reports now has some company for Hayden on-board in the form of Adrien Brody, Jordana Brewster and rapper-turned-actor Akon.

The film, which is a remake of the 1959 Steve McQueen movie St. Louis Bank Robbery, ‘follows two brothers with checkered pasts who get involved in an ill-fated bank robbery spearheaded by a gang of dangerous criminals. The heist tests the strength of their sibling bond and how far they will go for family.’

Sarik Andreasyan will direct the movie, which should go into production fairly soon. This will be the first of an enormous 11 movie movies Glacier plans to release in the next three years, so perhaps this is the beginning of Hayden Christensen movie mogul.

Murray Abraham and Jude Law, and we’ve got Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Harvey Keitel,Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, and Mathieu Amalric. And I think Owen is gonna have a little part, too. Maria Bello & Adrien Brody Join Paul Haggis’ Third Person

October 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adrien Brody and Maria Bello have signed on to appear in the increasingly starry cast of Third Person, writer/director Paul Haggis’ ensemble romantic drama, according to Variety.

The movie follows three couples living in Rome, Paris, and New York, with each pairing representing the beginning, the middle, and the end of a relationship. Adrien Brody and Moran Atias will play the new couple who take a road trip through Italy. Casey Affleck was previously attached to Brody’s role, but it appears he’s been forced to drop out.

Liam Neeson and Kim Basinger are the Paris couple, who are both writers in the middle of a relationship, which gets complicated by by the appearance of another woman. Mila Kunis and James Franco are playing the embattled New York couple who love is coming to a close. No details were given for Maria Bello’s character.

Paul Haggis is directing from his own original screenplay. Principal photography has now started in Rome.

Adrien Brody Heads For Motor City

August 25, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adrien Brody is in negotiations to play the villain in Motor City for Warner Bros. and director Albert Hughes. The actor replaces Gary Oldman, who was in talks to star back in February before bowing out. Brody doesn’t seems like a natural replacement for Oldman, but hopefully it’ll work.

Gerard Butler is set to star as an ex-con who immediately after his release begins tracking down the men who framed him and sent him to prison. Amber Heard and Mickey Rourke are also attached to star. Gary Oldman is not the first actor to drop out of the project. Dominic Cooper and Jake Gyllenhaal were previously attached.

Albert Hughes is directing from a screenplay by Chad St. John. Production is scheduled to begin September 17th in Atlanta. (Source: Variety)

Detachment Trailer – Tony Kaye is back in the directing chair

January 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While American History X was much praised, one person who wasn’t as impressed was director Tony Kaye, who’d tried to have hi name taken off the movie due to what he saw as studio interference. He failed and it gave him a bit of a reputation (as well as souring him on making films). As a result it’s only now that he’s made another movie, Detachment. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Adrien Brody is Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he’s not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world. Kaye has molded a contemporary vision of people who become increasingly distant from others while still feeling the need to connect. Detachment features a stellar ensemble cast, including Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and newcomers Sami Gayle and Betty Kaye.

Now the trailer a poster have dropped, so enjoy!
