Mary Queen of Scots Trailer – Saoirse Ronan & Margot Robbie get Elizabethan

October 7, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘“Mary Queen of Scots” explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. But Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I. Each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination.

‘Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Determined to rule as much more than a figurehead, Mary asserts her claim to the English throne, threatening Elizabeth’s sovereignty. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.’

Josie Rourke directs Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie in the movie, which is due in cinemas 18th January 2019. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

On Chesil Beach Trailer – Saoirse Ronan stars in the adaptation of Ian McEwan’s bestseller

February 22, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘It is summer 1962, and England is still a year away from huge social changes: Beatlemania, the sexual revolution and the Swinging Sixties. Florence (Saoirse Ronan) and Edward (Billy Howle) are just married and honeymooning on the dramatic coastline of Chesil Beach in Dorset. However, the hotel is old fashioned and stifling, and underlying tensions between the young couple surface and cast unexpected shadows over their long anticipated wedding night.

‘From the precise depiction of two young lovers, to the touching story of how their unexpressed misunderstandings and fears shape the rest of their lives, ON CHESIL BEACH is a tender story which shows how the entire course of a life can be changed, by a gesture not made or a word not spoken.

‘The film’s supporting cast features Anne-Marie Duff (Suffragette), Adrian Scarborough (Vera Drake), Emily Watson (Testament of Youth) and Samuel West (Darkest Hour).

‘ON CHESIL BEACH will be released on 15 June 2018 through Lionsgate UK.’ [Read more…]

Loving Vincent (DVD Review) – Van Gogh inspires the world’s first fully painted movie

February 12, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Director: Dorota Kobiela, Hugh Welchman
Running Time: 94 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 12th 2018 (UK)

Irrespective of anything else, Loving Vincent is an impressive achievement. It’s the world’s first animated movie that’s ‘fully painted’. In practice that means that the entire thing was filmed with actors and the using that footage it was later animated by a team of over 100 artists using oil paintings for both the characters and the background – and all done in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.

The film is set a year after Van Gogh’s death. Vincent’s friend from Arles, Postman Joseph Roulin (Chris O’Dowd), forces his slacker son, Armand (Douglas Booth), to hand deliver the artist’s final letter to his brother, Theo. After Armand discovers Theo is also dead, he travels on to the place where Vincent spent his final days, Auvers-sur-Oise, to see whether he should give the letter to the man who was supposed to be looking after him at the time, Dr. Gachet (Jerome Flynn). Lost River Trailer – Best look yet at Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut

February 3, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lost-river-matt-smithLost River looks like an intriguing and somewhat strange movie, which isn’t too surprising for what is Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut. There’s still a lot of people who are keen to see it, even if it’s been getting rather mixed reports from film festivals.

Now the first proper trailer has arrived, so we can take a look at what all the fuss is about.

The film has been described as being ‘Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, BILLY, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while BONES, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.’

It’s all a little peculiar, but the likes of Christina Hendricks, Iain De Caestecker, Eva Mendes, Saoirse Ronan and Matt Smith certainly seem to be having fun with it.

Lost River will reach the US on April 10th and the UK on April 24th. [Read more…]

Kit Harington, Jack O’Connell & Miles Teller Test For Fantastic Four

October 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kit-harington
It’s believed that Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four is nearly at the point where it ready to shoot. While there have been casting rumours for months, it’s only now they’re properly started testing actors, starting with Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) and Sue Storm (The Invisible Girl).

Insiders told Variety that Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) and Jack O’Connell (300: Rise of an Empire) are in line to get test for the Reed Richards role, while Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Kate Mara (Transcendence) and Margot Robbie (About Time) will try out for Sue Storm.

The studio is looking to go much younger with this rebooted version, in hopes of drawing in a new audience to reinvigorate the franchise (although it should be noted Reed Richards was in his 20s in the original comic, so despite the image of his as slightly older, they haven’t completely ditched the character’s origins).

For several months Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Fruitvale Station) has been the favourite to play Johnny Storm (The Human Torch), although that may change. No actors have been mentioned in connection with either Ben Grimm (The Thing) or the villain yet.

Simon Kinberg was recently brought on to work on the script, providing a polish. Jeremy Slater, Michael Green, Seth Grahame-Smith and T.S. Nowlin have previously worked on the script. Josh Trank is directing the reboot, with shooting expected to begin in the next few months.
