Saoirse Ronan Takes On The Order of the Seven

February 11, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last year Hollywood feel in love with Snow White, so that this year we’re getting the gothic action tale Snow White & The Huntsman and the more comic Mirror Mirror, and there’s Disney, who’ve been developing a more off-the-wall Snow White tale. Now the latter project is moving forward, with Variety reporting Saoirse Ronan has joined The Order of the Seven, which was previously titled Snow and the Seven.

The project was initially set up as a martial arts take on Snow White, however with two movies based on the story already due to hit cinemas, the project has been reworked, cutting all overt ties to the fairy tale. Saoirse Ronan will portray Olivia Spencer, a British expatriate in Hong Kong who finds protection with a group of outlaw warriors. When an evil empress comes into power, Olivia helps the warriors reclaim their royal ties to the kingdom.

Michael Gracey, who’s best known for his TV commercials, is making his directorial debut with The Order of the Seven, with shooting scheduled to commence this autumn. It is said that Disney is hoping to raise the international appeal of The Order of the Seven by casting well-known stars from China, Russia, and Japan to play the warriors.

Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook & Chandler Canterbury Join The Host

January 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits cinemas at the end of the year, it won’t be the end for adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s books on the big screen, as The Host is gearing up to shoot, with Andrew Niccol directing.

Saoirse Ronan, William Hurt, Max Iron and Jake Abel have already been cast, and they’ve now been joined by Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook and Chandler Canterbury, according to Variety.

The film is about parasitic alien creatures called Souls who can take over a human body. Saoirse Ronan stars as a young human soldier who is taken over by a Soul dubbed The Wanderer. While human personalities are normally subdued by their hosts, Ronan’s character puts up a fight, refusing to let go of her identity.

The Wanderer becomes obsessed with the soldier’s memories, and sets out to find her boyfriend and lost brother. Diane Kruger will portray another human with a soul inside called The Seeker, who tracks down The Wanderer. Chandler Canterbury will play Ronan’s younger brother, while Holbrook will be Jake Abel’s macho brother.

The film is due to start shooting at the end of the month, with a release already set for March 2013.

Saoirse Ronan to Star In How I Live Now

December 14, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Hanna’s Saoirse Ronan is certainly doing well for herself, having built herself into quite the star since she first caught people’s attention in Atonement. Now Variety reports that she has signed on to star in Kevin Macdonald’s indie drama, How I Live Now, based on a 2004 novel by Meg Rosoff.

In the film, Saoirse Ronan will play Daisy, a teenage girl from New York City who travels to England to spend the summer with family in the English countryside. However, when World War III breaks out and insurgents invade, Daisy and a younger girl named Piper must survive alone in the woods as they try to make it to safety. So it’s a bit like Red Dawn except with more tea and scones.

Jeremy Brock and Tony Grisoni wrote the script, but it isn’t known when the movie might shoot.

Max Irons Lands The Host

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago, it was revealed that Jake Abel was set to play one of the male leads in the the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, and now EW says the other part has gone to Max Irons, son of Jeremy.

In The Host, most of humans have had their brains co-opted by the invasive alien ‘souls’, that are taking people over one by one. Saoirse Ronan is set to play the central character, Melanie Stryder, who has a soul named Wanderer implanted in her mind. However while normally Melanie’s personality would be expected to fade into the background, her emotions and memories overwhelm the invader and makes it change its mind about its races master plan. Irons if set to play Jared Howe, who falls for Wanderer while the soul is in Melanie’s body.

Andrew Niccol (In Time) will direct, with shooting set to begin in February.

Jake Abel Joins The Host

November 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Jake Abel is probably feeling slightly relieved that people always just look at him and see a villain, as having played bad guys in both Percy Jackson and I Am Number Four, he’s just landed a slightly different type of role in The Host, the planned adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s novel.

Abel is is talks to play Ian, according to Deadline, one of the last remaining humans whose brain hasn’t been co-opted by the invasive alien ‘souls’, that are taking people over one by one. Saoirse Ronan is set to play the central character, Melanie Stryder, who has a soul named Wanderer implanted in her mind. However while normally Melanie’s personality would be expected to fade into the background, her emotions and memories overwhelm the invader and makes it change its mind about its races master plan.

Director Andrew Niccol is now down to the last few finalists for the other main male role of Luke, with Liam Hemsworth, Max Irons, Kit Harington and Jai Courtney on the shortlist. Expect to hear who got the part soon.
