Starring: Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Douglas Smith, Jake Abel
Director: Thor Freudenthal
Running Time: 106 mins
Certificate: PG
Release Date: December 9th 2013

After Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief failed to become a massive success, most people thought that would be the last we’d see of Rick Riordan’s boy demigod. While it took Fox a while to decide to make a follow-up, it’s now here.

This time around Percy (Logan Lerman) is living at Camp Half-Blood alongside the other half-human kids with Olympian parents, which is the only place they’re safe, thanks to a protective barrier that prevents the forces that would like to kill them from getting in. However just as Percy learns that his nemesis from the first film, Luke (Jake Abel), isn’t dead, the tree that’s responsible for the maintaining barrier begins to die. The only way to reverse the poisoning is with the mystical Golden Fleece. [Read more…]

The Host (Blu-ray)

July 29, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt
Director: Andrew Niccol
Running Time: 125 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: July 29th 2013

After the success of Twilight, it was little surprise that a movie version of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host was put into the works. It seemed to bode well when Truman Show and In Time scribe Andrew Niccol was hired to write and direct, as he’s got a good track record when it comes to somewhat cerebral sci-fi. However the end result is rather underwhelming – not bad, but far from great. [Read more…]

Tom Felton, Garret Dillahunt & Jake Abel Up For WWII Movie Ghosts of the Pacific

April 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tom-feltonGarret Dillahunt (Raising Hope), Tom Felton (Harry Potter), and Jake Abel (The Host) are getting together for a World War II movie called Ghosts of the Pacific, which tells the true story of three Navy flyers who got cast adrift on the South Pacific in 1942.

Brian Falk will make his directorial debut with the film, which tells the incredible journey of pilot Harold Dixon (Dillahunt), bombardier Tony Pastula (Felton), and radioman Gene Aldrich (Abel), who were virtual strangers assigned to a scouting mission on January 16, 1942. When they were forced to ditch their plane in the ocean, the men were left with no food, water, or supplies; only a 4ft by 8ft yellow life raft to keep them afloat.
Written by Mark David Keegan and Falk,

Ghosts of the Pacific is scheduled to commence principal photography April 15th, working from a script by Falk and Mark David Keegan. The movie will shoot at Baja Studios in Rosarito, Mexico, which houses the largest outdoor water tank in the world, built for James Cameron’s Titanic.

New Trailer For The Host – Sci-fi & action in the Stephenie Meyer adaptation

February 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Previous looks at The Host have deliberately made it look like the new Twilight, which isn’t surprising considering it’s also based on a novel by Stephenie Meyers. However this new trailer allows it to be its own beast, playing up the sci-fi and action more than the romance.

In The Host, our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. Most of humanity has succumbed, including Soarise Ronan’s main character, Melanie Stryder. However while normally the human is completely subdued by their host, in Melanie’s case, her personality flashes through, intriguing her Host, known as Wanda, and setting them off on a quest to find the last free humans. Ronan, Jake Abel, Max Irons and William Hurt star in the movie.

The film hits cinemas in both the UK and US on March 29th.

We have to say the ‘Choose To Love’ image looks like a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, but the rest seems okay.

The Host Trailer & Poster – Take a look at the Stephenie Meyer adaptation

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Twilight comes to an end this week with the release of Breaking Dawn Part 2, and so it’s a good time to launch the full length trailer for the next Stephenie Meyer adaptation, The Host, which is due to hit UK cinemas March 2013.

In The Host, our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. It’s difficult to see this taking over the world the way Twlight has, but it does look like it might be entertaining.

Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook & Chandler Canterbury Join The Host

January 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits cinemas at the end of the year, it won’t be the end for adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s books on the big screen, as The Host is gearing up to shoot, with Andrew Niccol directing.

Saoirse Ronan, William Hurt, Max Iron and Jake Abel have already been cast, and they’ve now been joined by Diane Kruger, Boyd Holbrook and Chandler Canterbury, according to Variety.

The film is about parasitic alien creatures called Souls who can take over a human body. Saoirse Ronan stars as a young human soldier who is taken over by a Soul dubbed The Wanderer. While human personalities are normally subdued by their hosts, Ronan’s character puts up a fight, refusing to let go of her identity.

The Wanderer becomes obsessed with the soldier’s memories, and sets out to find her boyfriend and lost brother. Diane Kruger will portray another human with a soul inside called The Seeker, who tracks down The Wanderer. Chandler Canterbury will play Ronan’s younger brother, while Holbrook will be Jake Abel’s macho brother.

The film is due to start shooting at the end of the month, with a release already set for March 2013.
