Ben Winchell Gets Shirtless In The First Max Steel Movie Pics

July 4, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

max-steel-film-pic1For several years a live action movie version of Mattel’s toy and TV show line Max Steel has been in the works. At one point it was planned as a big budget tentpole affair starring Taylor Lautner, but that didn’t work out and it’s ended up as something a bit smaller and interestingly the entire thing is being funded my Mattel themselves.

Now the first pics from the movie have arrived via Moviefone. As you can see above, Max is looking pretty hot, even if he is rather scarred.

Max Steel is about teenager Maxwell McGrath and his alien companion Steel, who can combine special turbo-energy powers to generate into the superhero Max Steel. The film’s plot apparently ‘centers on bringing a positive and relatable hero to kids, drawing upon turbo-charged teamwork, laughter and friendship.’ (And that cringe-inducing quote is what happens when a massive corporation makes a movie).

Ben Winchell plays Max, with Ana Villafañe, Andy Garcia and Maria Bello also starring. It’ll be in cinemas next year.

Take a look at all the new pics below. [Read more…]

Maria Bello Up For The Max Steel Movie

May 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maria-BelloAfter quite a long time in development – including a while when Taylor Lautner was going to take the lead role – the live action film version of Max Steel has finally come together.

The likes of Ben Winchell, Ana Villafane and Andy Garcia have already signed on and now Variety reports they’ll be joined by Maria Bello.

Max Steel  was launched as an action figure line and CG TV series in 2000, but never really took off (although apparently he’s still big in Latin America). It’s perhaps Max’s lack of popularity that’s made Mattel so keen on making a movie out of the extreme sports fan turned supherhuman spy, hoping that a film will give Max the worldwide fandom that’s so far alluded him.

That’s especially true as Mattel is largely funding it themselves and it’ll be released independently.

Shooting on the movie started last month. Bello will play Max’s grandmother.

Third Person Trailer – Fresh look at James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde & Liam Neeson in Paul Haggis’ star-studded tale

April 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Haggis won an Oscar for his multi-stranded tale Crash (although many people think he shouldn’t have). Now he’s back in ensemble movie mode for Third Person, which tells three stories set in Rome, Paris, and New York, set at different times in couples’ relationships.

The star-studded cast includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson, Kim Basinger, Adrien Brody, Maria Bello and Moran Atias.

Neeson plays a man who leaves his wife to go live with the much younger Olivia Wilde, Franco and Kunis are a former couple who can’t stop warring over custody of their son, while Adrien Brody is involved with a woman whose child has ended up in the hands of people traffickers.

It’s certainly sounds like there’s plenty of drama (and Crash haters will probably already be cringing). The movie hits the US in June, but it’s not clear when it will come to the UK. [Read more…]

Prisoners Trailer – Hugh Jackman loses his daughter, but can Jake Gyllenhaal help?

May 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You could be forgiven for thinking the only Hugh Jackman movie out this year is The Wolverine, but he’s also getting far more serious with Prisoners, and he’s got a great cast surrounding him to do it, including Maria Bello, Terrence Howard, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Paul Dano. Now we’ve got out first trailer, which makes the film look like it could be pretty intense.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keller Dover (Jackman) is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His 6-year-old daughter and her young friend are missing, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?’

The film is out this autumn. [Read more…]

Grown Ups 2 Trailer – Taylor Lautner goes for laughs alongside Sandler, Rock and co.

April 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Is Taylor Lautner funny? Well, it seems like he might be, as he doesn’t do too badly in the trailer for Grown Ups 2.

The movie sees the cast from Grown Ups returns – Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello – for more summertime laughs. Lenny (Adam Sandler) has relocated his family back to the small town where he and his friends grew up. This time around, the grown ups are the ones learning lessons from their kids on a day notoriously full of surprises: the last day of school.

As you’d expect from Sandler, half the jokes seem to be about potentially gay things, because apparently anything that could even possibly be construed as gay is absolutely hilarious! Let’s hope the actual film is laughing with rather than at homosexuality.

Lautner, Milo Ventimiglia and various others join the franchise, which is due to hit cinemas in July. [Read more…]

Maria Bello & Frank Grillo Head For James Wan’s House Of Horror

January 24, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maria-BelloA couple of day ago it was revealed that Maria Bello had decided to leave the Kiefer Sutherland TV series Touch partway through the second season. Now she’s got something new to fill her time, as Variety reports that she and The Grey star Frank Grill have signed up for a James Wan produced thriller, which until recently was going by the title, House Of Horror.

Now it’s lacking a nam, but the plot is the same, which sees Bello as a psychologist and Grillo as a policeman, who team up to interrogate the sole survivor of a ghost-hunting expedition that ended with five people dead. Essentially it’s a police procedural mixed up with a supernatural thriller, and now with Bello and Grillo attached, it’s certainly got some talented actors involved.

Will Canon, helmer of the 2010 crime-thriller Brotherhood, is set to direct from a script by Max La Bella.

Maria Bello Joins James Wan’s Haunted Murder House Thriller

November 14, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Maria Bello is having a busy week, as at the weekend it was revealed she’d joined the cast of Prisoners, opposite Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, and now she’s taking the lead in a supernatural thriller from producer James Wan (Saw, Insidious). Will Canon (Brotherhood) is set to direct the movie, based on Max La Bella script, who was working from an original idea of Wan’s.

The film is set during the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein (Bello), question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying, and the suspect claims the responsibility doesn’t lie with any of the inhabitants, but with the house itself.

Here’s what James Wan added about his new cast member, “I’m so thrilled to be shepherding this project. The talent is really incredible, and in particular, Maria Bello was on the top of our list so we’re excited to have her.”

Shooting begins January 2013 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (Source: THR)

Maria Bello & Adrien Brody Join Paul Haggis’ Third Person

October 18, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Adrien Brody and Maria Bello have signed on to appear in the increasingly starry cast of Third Person, writer/director Paul Haggis’ ensemble romantic drama, according to Variety.

The movie follows three couples living in Rome, Paris, and New York, with each pairing representing the beginning, the middle, and the end of a relationship. Adrien Brody and Moran Atias will play the new couple who take a road trip through Italy. Casey Affleck was previously attached to Brody’s role, but it appears he’s been forced to drop out.

Liam Neeson and Kim Basinger are the Paris couple, who are both writers in the middle of a relationship, which gets complicated by by the appearance of another woman. Mila Kunis and James Franco are playing the embattled New York couple who love is coming to a close. No details were given for Maria Bello’s character.

Paul Haggis is directing from his own original screenplay. Principal photography has now started in Rome.

Abduction (DVD)

February 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins, Sigourney Weaver, Maria Bello, Jason Isaacs
Director: John Singleton
Running Time: 101 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: February 13th, 2012

Will Taylor Lautner be a big star outside the Twilight franchise? Abduction was supposed to be the movie that showed us if he could succeed without turning into a wolf, but to be honest it’s still impossible to tell. That’s not because Taylor does anything wrong, but because Abduction is so busy getting from A to B to C that it doesn’t really give its star time to show off more than he’s quite god at fighting and stunts.

The young actor plays Nathan, who’s happily living his suburban teenage life when he and friend Karen (Lily Collins) come across what appears to be a picture of him on a missing person’s website. Suspecting his parents may have abducted him as a child, Nathan’s life really goes haywire when armed men suddenly invade the family home and kill the people he believed were his mum and dad.
