Following on from it’s incredibly successful run on Broadway, Hedwig And The Angry Inch is heading out on the road for a US tour. It’s been announced that one of the people who played the title role in New York will be back for the first two stops in LA & San Francisco – Darren Criss.
The former Glee star played Hedwig from April to July last year, and will now be back when the show hits San Francisco from October 4th to 30th and LA from November 1st to 27th. Indeed he’ll be having a bit of a musicals year, as he’s also set to play Prince Eric in Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl next month. It’s certainly two very different roles for the actor.
It’s not known who will play Hedwig after San Franciso and LA. The Broadway production swapped the person in the lead role every 12 weeks or so (starting with Neil Patrick Harris’ Tony-winning turn, before the likes of Andrew Rannell, Michael C. Hall, Criss, Taye Diggs and the show’s creator, John Cameron Mitchell, took over), and the tour may do the same every couple of stops.
Hedwig is the show’s East German title character, who was left with an angry inch after a botched sex change operation that she had in order to get into the US with her American GI lover. Hedwig then started dating young Tommy Gnosis, who left her behind when he took her music and became a rock star – leaving her understandably bitter (but still very funny).
After The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard are back in Dan Brown adaptation with Inferno (they’ve skipped over The Lost Symbol). Now the first trailer for the film has dropped.

Ever since it started on TV,
We may have come a long way in terms of LGBT acceptance in the West, but there’s no doubt there are still major issues, not least of which are sometimes legitimate fears over whether being open about your sexuality will affect your career. And when you’re an actor just starting to find media success, it’s not too surprising you’d worry whether it would make a difference.
In Bad Neighbours (known simply as Neighbors in the US), there were jokes that suggested Dave Franco’s character, Pete, was gay but pretending he wasn’t, as well as playing up the homerotic undertones between him and Zac Efron’s character. Well, with the sequel, they’ve decided to stop being coy about it, as Pete is coming out.
A few weeks ago it was revealed that Guillermo Del Toro was working on a supernatural romance set during the Cold War, with Sally Hawkins, Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Stuhlbarg set to star. Now another actor is joining the throng, with
26-year-old Alden Ehrenreich has been the ‘next big thing’ for a while (in fact ever since he was discovered by Steven Spielberg entertaining at a bar mitzvah). However, the likes of Beautiful Creatures failed to really break him out, and while he’s gotten very close to numerous other major tentpole roles, they’ve ended up going to someone else.
